can't believe they tried to claim Kenny had the best beard then switch over to Faruq who actually has the best beard by A Lot. When I think battle bots and awesome Beards I thing Faruq Tauheed, he is the best
Endgame did show some mercy there at the end.
Hypershock had sheared their drive belt, so they were already dead. If they had been knocked down, then they would have been able to crabwalk and possible continue to be a threat with their weapon.
@@NK-qn6pq Endgame's driving was fantastic in this bout. Hypershock had no chance after losing both tires. Even if they had some mobility left Endgame could avoid their weapon and continue using the one fork they had to control Hypershock's facing and attack them from the side like they did pretty much the entire fight.
Will's driving is a little reckless at times which usually lead to a loss. Riptide fight proves it again.
This was like the Bronco versus Razorback match
epic beat down ... back to the drawing board Hypershock. The hot rod wheels got chopped like cupcakes

Makes me think that a buzz saw whirling away underneath the chassis would be a fun surprise.

Hits to your drivetrain will do that to you. The hit that sent Hypershock flying and ripped off a wheel (near the start of the fight) also damaged their drive chain for the other wheel, crippling their mobility.
If I'm designing a Battlebot, protecting the wheels is job #1.

I can’t believe Discovery hasn’t renewed BattleBots for another season…not only have they shelved BattleBots they cancelled StreetOutlaws..and who knows what’s going on with Deadliest Catch. I know there’s a filming crew for DC but that doesn’t mean anything anymore…Pilgrims filmed season 6 of SO and it never made it to Discovery. I’m done watching Discovery until they bring all three shows back .

@@pegren4724 @6:52, the busted wheel looks to be yellow material all the way through... no sign of metal. This is how designs evolve, I guess: you learn that exposed tires can get chewed off, and the bot needs to be able to drive on its rims.
I think you'd want the opposite of studded snow tires: Hard metal wheels (titanium?) with rubber studs for traction. It's unlikely that you'd lose so many studs that you lose traction; your only concern is how tough the wheels are.
@@jpdemer5 Having protected wheels is just as risky if not more so. With protection around your wheels the metal can be bent in towards your wheels, jamming them, unlike exposed wheels.
This was the 1st fight that I was starting to doubt hypershocks power

I see so many bots lose their wheels and then they are dead in the water. Why leave them out in the open and so exposed?
it takes up a lot of weight to properly armor the entire outside of your bot, and that weight could instead go to a stronger drive or weapon. Plus, having big exposed wheels can make it easier to get out of awkward situations like being stuck on the screws, since it's more likely for the big wheels to get grip on something.

Armor makes you a bit heavier which would pull away from power and/or speed since the drive, weapon, and belts used would need to be lighter to make way for the armor.
In addition, armoring the tires can make it worse. Imagine this scenario, you have four giant exposed tires but suddenly you lose one, no matter, you still got three more to drive on. You put armor and a hit that should’ve lost you that tire protected it, yet now it was dented into the tire, making the tire unusable. What should’ve protected the tire now made the situation worse as that tire is now simply a dead weight. Not only is it making the bot heavier but now that tire is dragging across the floor and reducing your overall speed further.
There’s pros and cons.
These people are here to win and/or have a bunch of fun. They are smart and know how to create these powerful machines so surely they would know to armor those rubber wheels? Why aren’t they doing it? Because they know the pros and cons and weighed that the cons of armor outweigh the pros.
I’ve noticed that a lot of the really low slung bots with enclosed wheels have trouble getting traction in the battlebox. If you’re hoping to box-rush your opponent and get in a hit before their weapon gets up to speed or dart around and hit them on the side it’s worth the risk to get that extra mobility.

Big giant rubber wheels... sticking out and exposed... is always a bad idea...
Some of these genius minds missing out on such things that us common noobs understand... is beyond me...
Loved the sportsmanship displayed by EndGame... not hitting Hypershock when they were down(Riptide vs. Captain Shrederator)...
Hypershock's track record shows that it's viable to have wheels which are very big and grippy even if they are mostly shredded.
Bots with smaller more protected wheels have been disabled faster than Hypershock with its giant exposed wheels.
Exposed wheels make it harder for you to get high centered (tombstone vs Minotaur). And that remember these robots are limited by weight and if you want effective wheel guard they have to be very heavy and thick. If you skimp on wheel guards they tend to end up pushed into the wheel, which will leave you more damaged than if you just lost the wheel. Especially if your wheels are linked together.
It'd be funny if someone made a bot who's weapons were its wheels just to F with people that try to go for them. XD

Steamroller boy using two drum spinners as wheels? Might tear up the floor, or simply lack sufficient power because of the resistance of the floor.
Death Race i.e. RC car with scythed wheels? Probably couldn't reliably get the blades spinning fast enough to do damage, especially to a metal bot.
