Nice video, Dr L. Because of your last 2021 review we bought the IM508 (when scanning the diff from 608), and now when you raised it even higher we just made a good choice, thanks. Must say we are still wery pleased with it. Even if these vids are sometimes too Aussie-related (understandable) the rest of us gain soo much from it.

I don't understand why some people suggest getting this & a vvdi tool max ,if it's because the 508 can't clone chips what's wrong with a vvdi mini & a 508 ?
Does this program any type of key/fob? Like can I buy aftermarket or OEM fobs and this will program them? Or does it require a specific brand to program?
I brought the IM508 and love it I got mine for $1216.81 and also brought the Australian software for AU Ford and Holden for $160.65 total was $1377.46c it can also force acceptance of old Holden keys that failed up to VZ just that in it's self makes this machine worth it .
Example : I Programed a key to a VZ Commodore it failed and locked the key I then used a diffrent option on the 508 and it forced the vehicle to except the locked key that was being Programed to that vehicle .
But if programming failed on 1 vehicle you can't force the key to be excepted on a diffrent car only the vehicle it failed on .

I've been told the 508 can code injectors. Do you know if that's true?
The 508 god love it, It is too slow with updates it seems like every time i use the tool there are updates that take an hour or more to install. I hate to go somewhere and the tool not be up to date!
On the other hand, it never let me down.
I work investigating car insurance theft claims. My work specifically is examination the car keys for the vehicle. I look at the information on the transponder of the key including recent journeys and mileage etc to help validate a claim.
In some instances the vehicle is recovered by the police after it has been stolen. In those instances, I'm often asked to do a scan of the car as well as investigating the keys. The thinking being that if I could read the information that is stored in the car about the key and compare it to the information I've got from the car key itself, it could help prove the case either way. For example, if the policy holder said they only had one key but a scan of the car reveals that 2 are coded to the car, we could ask the policy holder what has happened to the other key.
1. With all of that said, if I went out to a recovered car without any keys, would I be able to complete a scan of the car? I specifically need to see the key ids that think is stored in the key learning section?
2. If I am able to complete a scan without the keys, is that scan completed primarily through connecting to the OBD port?
3. Is there any brands where the key IDs would not be shown?
For clarity, I don't need to programme any keys, I just need to see the key Ids stored within the car. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, if I just need to see the key ids, is there a better tool than Autel?

No , no , no for all 3, you would need to remove the cars ecu and read the hex from the chip and decode it to get that info.
But all car systems are different so maybe a yes or two on some cars, but mostly no for all 3
@@DrLockShop thank you. Do you know of any after market product that would read the id's stored in the car without taking the ecu's out? If not, is what you've described above easy enough to learn or are we talking years of practice and experience etc
I like to use my 508 over smart pro. For Benz I have used many different types of programmers and my favorite is the 508 .
Autel needs to fix their chrysler game. 8+12 sucks compared to smartpro and xtools brute force via green star bank connector.
Thats my biggest gripe. Other than that it's an amazing programmer. I find that still nothing is more reliable than a smart pro when it comes to your everyday vehicles.
@@Mirauge 8+12 who needs that nowadays. The only 8+12 I use is on alfa romeo anything else is done directly by obd2 and you should know what I'm talking about now, maybe 2 years ago yes you right but now step up and learn the new ways to bypass that and no cables needed at all. All done by obd2 on most.

International key supply just had it on sale for an awesome price and I picked one up with a few other extras.
I would recommend that for locksmith, as I do diag and programming it's 608
If u willing to program keys just for base cars u don't really need even im508 buy cheap tool for 300$ like xtool x100pad but if u really want to do business u definitely will need im608

Hi, i already have one autel mp808ts so I'm covered as far as diag but would like to do some immo and keys. Any tips on how to cover the key programming area. I'll do EU and Asian cars, US cars are extremely rare here. Im kinda lost. 608 is beyond my budget so I've been looking at km100, xhorse vvdi max pro and now this 508.
Will this work for 5th gen DAS4 keyfobs for mercedes ? i keep on hearing only the dealer can reprogram it but i would need to buy another key from them

Just got the T-Ninja 1000, for the money and range it's hard to beat. No Vag group though, which is the main downside.

What is Vag group?
The JVCI pass-thru device with the IM608 is a big benefit over the im508. The JVCI provides the ability to use a variety of factory softwares on a laptop for the stuff the Autel or the aftermarket can't do. The JVCI also allows for 12V input power if an OBD port doesn't have power.
The I'm508 is the same key tooling the device as im608 with xp400, the only difference is the programming and diagnostic capabilities the 608 has!
In the cloning video you really rated the Xhorse Keytool plus , But for less money you can get the Autel KM100(or Xhorse key tool max), IM508 & XP400 pro .Am I missing something ?

You can use as normal, just won’t be able to update anymore. But you can always check what updates are available before paying for a years upgrade. Really good tool

No you can’t. You will need subscription to do a lot of things.
You can do several things without subscription. Actually a whole lot.
But anything new. Newer fords. Newer gm, definitely bmw and Benz you will need to connect to internet which will then verify your subscription.
So yes you can use it without subscription. However, you will be limited. Why everyone fails to mention that I’ll have no idea. Good luck.
@@citylocksmith3553 you can’t even simulate Toyota/Lexus IMMO data on the APB112 without a active subscription. You will need to do a smartbox reset to learn a key. Furthermore, you will need an active subscription to do any Mercedes-Benz key programming even if you pull the EIS and read the key password. My subscription expired on 11/20/21 and I’ve been using my IM608 without a subscription and haven’t needed to renew yet. Trying to hold out as long as I can to get as much value out of the unit.

@@firefighter1241 both are crap sbb is most likely clone knockoff. the real one is good if you can find it but that's unlikely you will find one.
@Matthew S. We had auto vin on an old Volvo V70 (like 2004), but non on Kia 2011 and non on a Mutisbishi 2013. Worst is it doesn't remember it duiring a session like the keeping the pin. Entering it once is not that hard but redo it is a dislike.

100% agree on that. It is odd, and very annoying. Entering it once is no big deal, but repeatedly is a pain, New key witj remote on Mit ACE 13, and had to enter it again and again.

I just purchased a t Ninja 1000 about a month ago very impressed great for North America cars have not found a car yet but it will not program a lot of bang for the buck bought it from UHS hardware for 399 like it because don't have to charge it it's powered up by the ob2

The diagnostics are top of the line in the 508 and 608 the only difference between the two is 608 does bi directional function for coding modules through the j box
Right on and the oscilloscope from my understanding.
But can you tell me what I may use that bidirectional coding for?
Because I'm looking into buying the 508. And I use the 608 for work. And I've never used the oscilloscope feature as I don't have one. And as far as bidirectional coding. And as far as bidirectional coding. Would that mean to me as a locksmith for example? The ability to write via obd? Can you give me some examples.
@@Mirauge unless you are a mechanic you won't need bidirectional it's for coding modules like transmission ect. Like if you bought a new transmission control module and need to code it with dealer software using your jbox
@@Mirauge if your just making keys for cars then you really don't need them extra functions the 508 works great for all your key needs.
@@Mirauge If you use the im608 for work you should know what the oscilloscope is for and bidirectional. If you don't know then you don't need it. Bidirectional means you can turn on and off different components in car for testing, as a locksmith the only time you may need to use that feature is when testing immo problems like turn on key detecting, lock and unlock doors to see if locks work or immo light on and off etc.... 508 key and 608 key and diagnostics... the main differences is in the diagnostics side. the 508 with xp400pro is the same as the 608pro except the diagnostics.

When we got the im608 the boss got it for me because I'm savey enough to learn and retain. We get calls all the time. Hey I swapped a ecu in etc "insert car here" can you help? Etc.
Aside from doing ecu remarry functions. Which from what I've noticed it only really works on nissans. Maybe an occasional ford. Remarriage of certain modules does interest me. For example I've used the im608 and gbox to remarry a ESL on a Mercedes.
I just wanted to make sure I wasn't gonna be missing a particular functionality from the diagnostics side that I may miss.
And a example i would miss is nissan ecu remarry. It does this very well quick and easy.
I get what your saying though. It seems to me it has nothing to do with the capabilities or software. But just that it doesn't have a jbox. That'd be the real difference if you ask me. But I know nothing.

If focus is on Key Programming not on Diagnostics.
IM508 has the same immo capabilities as IM608 as long as you have all the accessories. That you can purchase separately for IM508 as you go.
Still nothing in 608 that we have missed yet. If your are only in to key programming, I think 508 is the best. Love our machine,

Hi, great video. I run a small rural workshop in NZ. Would this be a good tool for Hilux, Ranger/BT50 and general jap vehicles? Lost keys here can be an issue, as the only other option is transporting to a larger centre.
