  • Hello! In today's video, we are going to be reacting to the one and only Pentatonix once more and this time, it's going to be their cover of Royals! I'm going to be honest here, this one was rough for me. I was honestly in sensory overload as I was watching this one and was so disappointed in the editing room while listening back because I realized that I missed so much more than what I thought while doing this video! But alas, as is the PTX curse. It's impossible to really get everything in on one sitting!
For those of you that don't know, this video will be covering not just a reaction to what I'm watching but I'll be talking about the things that I really enjoy about what the featured artist is doing. This can range from how they have composed their music from player to player if it's a band, or the drummer himself; and what I think they're doing really well technically as well as musically! I'll also do my best to convey and educate on the things that pop out to me so that we can all appreciate the artist and what they are doing! Of course, there's only so much that can be covered in a short RUclips video so there are bound to be things that I've missed so bear with me! And now, time for the mandatory disclaimer!
    NOTE:
This is going to be a reaction and analysis of the song meaning that I will be pausing the song a lot to give my thoughts, reactions and analysis so if you are here to just listen to the song with no meaningful feedback, this is not the video for you. Stay happy and healthy!
Thank you so much for stopping by and watching this video, I hope that you enjoy it!

I recommend checking out Problem (Ariana Grande cover). Kevin at one point is speaking and beatboxing at the same time! And Avi does a kind of humming baseline that is simply top tier. There's also a bit of a surprise in there that's fun to watch reactors emote about.

You’re doing great sweetie! 😉 Now check out Matt in New Rules x Are You That Somebody (mashup). Matt and Kevin kick it off with a killer rhythm section and continue to play off each other brilliantly throughout the song. Kevin’s percussion is so tight and Matt is crushing a super fun bass line. I think you’d really enjoy it. Cheers!

Recommend PTX cover of Gold by Kiiara (recorded live) if you haven't already reacted to it. Listen to at least part of her version first, to hear how Mitch duplicates naturally what she used sampling and looping to accomplish. Kevin and Avi have a really nice rhythm section going throughout the song. And the "round" that the Trio does on the last verse is amazing!

Firstly, this is exactly what I wanted, I get totally overwhelmed when I KNOW about things and I want to share my excitement about it, and I can see that same kind of enthusiasm painted onto of your reaction here! I love that you're sharing that with us, the everything everywhere all at once-ness of how you feel! I'm with you on loving the way that Mitch sings this, his departures from the original and his joy, especially. I'm excited FOR you as someone who thinks that Avi's basslines are so fabulous because they get overlooked by everyone else's vocals and Kevin's beatboxing!
As for a suggestion, whether or not you react specifically to take apart the song itself, I think you would really appreciate (in the same vein of Silent Night, when you KNOW the song but the things they do with it are special) the bassline in their version of Hallelujah, which is a song that often gets reactions but not so many people pick out what Avi's doing in it. He at times is much higher than you would expect and it makes the harmonies exquisite, especially during Kirsten and Mitch's parts. The dynamic build-up in that song is also just quite simply a master class, particularly the way they start with ahhs and move to more syncopation and lyric layers.
Thank you so much for the shout-out, your reactions are so enjoyable because of your expertise and your delight in what you're hearing! I look forward to more reactions, for sure!

Great reaction I have the same problem I watch their videos repeatedly but can't stay away from focusing on Avi. You might enjoy his solo music along with all the other recommendations I saw. To experience his beautiful lower register I would suggest Black is the Color of my True Loves Hair with Peter Hollens.

  • @kristinewalberg2938

I wish my bass playing was as good as Avi's bass singing. He gets such a big beautiful, round tone while still seeming perfectly chill--he sounds just like a really talented bassist playing a really good quality bass. Kevin is phenomenal, Kirstie and Scott are amazing, but as a singer it's really Mitch that does it for me. I swear, he can literally sing anything and sound as good as (in the case of Bohemian Rhapsody) or better than the original.
You didn't sound nervous at all, and I'm really enjoying your reactions.

  • @jerolddavis
    @jerolddavis 2 года назад +4

Thing about Avi is he really isn't a super good fit stylistically with the other singers. But he's so damn good that it just doesn't matter 95% of the time.

In the meantime, just one suggestion. Aloe vera gel will REALLY help with that sunburn. Give it a try. Oh, and don't neglect your scalp. Your hair is short enough that I'm seeing red peeking through there, as well.

The ending, they dress the way they did in 2011-ish. Then think about what the last line says, It goes hand in hand with the same line in "The Lucky One's", if you need to listen to that one to figure it out. It is a very deep meaning to them, and is so much of a thank you to the fans.

And if there is any Christmas song you don't like, listen to the PTX version. Seriously, almost everyone hates the 12 days of Christmas, but I would like to hear what you think after.

I totally agree. While Avi has stretched out into his own solo music, he still layers in his bass lines. You do need to react to some of his solo work, over 90% of which is original. 2019''s "Change on the Rise" is a good starting point, but do check out 2022's "I'm Only Getting Started", the official video. Avi and his band just started the 2nd phase of their US/Canada tour yesterday, to rave reviews (I went to 3 of his shows in 2019 - 3 of the best shows I've ever been to).

It's important to remember, here and elsewhere in life, that simple and easy are two different things--simplicity is actually tough to pull off. It would actually probably be much easier for Pentatonix if they stuck to choral music, or showtunes, or madrigal pieces, rather than pop, because the simplicity of pop means it could easily go flat and dull in a cappella format.
I personally love their 'Perfume' medley, and wish more people would react to it!

If you haven’t reacted to Daft Punk medley you need to. The arrangement, the video, the bass, the beatboxing, the vocal effects. All of it will amaze you. They won their first Grammy from this, and it was all done in Avi and Kevin‘s apartment closet, the video was. On top of that, find a live recording and you’ll see that what they do in the official video and what they do live matches, and you know that everything they do is themselves, no special effects, no backup vocals, no instruments. It’s really amazing to listen to both versions.
Honestly, just go to their official RUclips channel PTX official and start from the beginning. Watch everything from the beginning of the sing off to their pre-label home videos of their recordings forward. There will be a break where Avi leaves and Matt begins and the complexity of their arrangements and music just continues on and soars. They’ve now won three Grammys. Also, their first big original, Run To You.

I really enjoy your PTX reactions, I hope you do more. And you shouldn't worry about feeling nervous, I think that's normal whe you're out of practice. If you're getting overwhelmed by all 5 of these ridiculously talented aliens, perhaps you could start looking at their individual work:
Avi has quite a good amount of solo stuff out now.
Scott has a fairly new solo song called Mars. He also has some older stuff that he privated that you may find on fan reuploads (eg I Should Tell Ya Momma On You). He also has some duets with others outside the band such as with Rozzi Crane, Mario Jose, and Shoshanna Bean.
Mitch has his Messer project from last year, with songs like Love Supply & Angel's Pray, as well as some older solo stuff that can be found floating about on fan reuploads (eg The Graveyard, and a cover of Billie Eilish's Your Power).
Kevin has some on his K.O. channel, my favourite is the cover of Down and Sign of the Times.
I know Kirstie has some too but I can't recall the name off the top of my head.
Then Scott & Mitch had their duo Sup3rfruit, which has some fun stuff on there but I think you'd enjoy their Hip Hop Goes Broadway (1 & 2), among the many medleys, and Feeling Myself is a real surprise too. They also have an album of originals called Future Friends, which has a video for all the songs except 1. While the channel seems to have been set aside for now, as they stopped uploading a few years ago, there's still a bunch of stuff on there.
