Beastie Boys always had the best production, the best beats, and the ability to provide something you weren’t expecting. If you are teetering on whether to explore more Beastie Boys, please at least first look at these official videos of theirs (which they never block). “ “3 MCs and 1 DJ”, “So Whatcha Want”, “Pass the Mic”, “Intergalactic”. Mario C, Mix Master Mike, and Money Mark rounded out this exceptional group going forward. Great reaction! Jazz musicians are the best, they can do anything.

Mario C. was a friend of the Dust Brothers and an engineer on their previous album, Paul's Boutique. He co-produced the next 3 Beastie Boys albums - Check Your Head, Ill Communication, and Hello Nasty - with the band. During this era the band themselves were the primary beat makers on the hip-hop stuff, with Mario filling a more traditional producer role (i.e. not a producer in the usual hip-hop sense of making beats). From various interviews with him and the band it sounds like he mostly brought a level of professionalism to their chaotic jam sessions and fought with them over weirder creative choices (sometimes losing, like with the distorted vocals in So What'cha Want being recorded with cheap crappy mics instead of recording it clean and adding distortion after).
