The car looks solid. In my place it would be a everyday driving vehicle. My guessing is someone drove it out of their grandfathers garage and sold it to the junkyard. The damadge on the rear looks yard-made.
Whoa Nelley, 1983 and it's over for thee. You can tell this car was reasonably cared for over its lifetime and probably something major happened to it, or perhaps the owner stopped driving or passed away and the family just decided to be rid of the vehicle. The oil change sticker and the new air filter are good indicators of that. The GM Continuous Protection Plan was (and I believe still might be) their extended warranty plan sold at the dealer when the car was new. Salespeople often pushed them because they were high profit makers for the dealerships. Correct, 1984 is the first year for GM passenger cars to have an RPO code decal. Trucks had it much earlier. We got the VIN, we win: 1G1 for US made Chevrolet, A for manual seat belts, N for Caprice Classic, 69 for four door sedan, H for 5.0L (305 CID) V8 with four barrel, aka RPO code "LG4", aka "Hello it's me again....", 4 is a check digit, D for the 1983 model year, X for Fairfax, KS assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Fairfax, KS plant that assembled this car closed in early 1987 and also assembled my 1984 Delta 88. No tag, can't brag, but can be figured out, no doubt: D for 1983 model year, 1BN69 for Chevrolet (1) Caprice Classic (BN) four door sedan (69), X for Fairfax, KS assembly, 62L and 62U for Light Briar Brown exterior paint (the same color combination as my '84 Delta 88), possible code 67T for Dark Briar Brown vinyl top, A52 for bench seat, a 67 code for Dark Briar interior trim, 12A,B,C, etc. for a given week of December 1982 production, among other codes. Carter Chevrolet was located at 700 N Mcdonald St, Mckinney, TX 75069 and today this is a body shop and an Enterprise rental car location. The right front marker light is from a newer year as it should be amber like the left front one is. No, the blue one is a 1984 model year with the VIN for the win: 2G1 for Canadian made Chevrolet, A for manual seat belts, N for Caprice Classic, 69 for four door sedan, H for 5.0L (305 CID) V8 with four barrel, aka RPO code "LG4", 9 is a check digit, E for the 1984 model year, 9 for Oshawa, Ontario Canada assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Oshawa plant operated until 2019, closed for a short time and reopened in 2021 and still operates today. Exterior paint is code 22 Light Royal Blue. Yes, I decoded the SPID on this one previously. Whoa Nelley, two for one and both done. The box (Chevy) no longer rocks. "B" body looks a bit shoddy. That's it, time to quit. Four doors and they don't go anymore. 305 took a nosedive. That's it, time to quit. Going to be flat and that's that. Painted brown and wearing a frown. Made in December of 1982 and it's over for you. Please don't get squished because if either is made into "Flat Stanley" many here, including Benny and yes, most definitely the Google Man are all going to be very, very, very, very, very pissed.
Darn shame on that box Chevy I'm surely they could have sold it as whole special with as high as it is to buy vehicles nowadays. But it never ceases to amaze me how these yards cause damage to their own parts seems to me like they could earn up a lot more money by trying not to damage their own inventory like I could imagine on that box Chevy the damage that's on it was more than likely caused by the yard. But either way one of these days maybe I'll run across a box Chevy I can get but hope you have a great 2025 wishing you good health along with your family.
I had one that I bought for parts. I pulled the 350 and automatic transmission for my 56 Chevy BelAir and got the steel wheels off of it, then sold it to my cousin and he got the rear-end from it and a few other parts I think and then he sold it to a U Pull It I think or sold it for scrap one.
🏁 hey Benny can of brake cleaner would clean the oil and grease spots right out of the fabric, that's too bad that car is really clean I noticed the frame hardly has any rust, that's too bad that's another one that could have been saved!!🇺🇲🏁🏁🏁😎🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
We had an 82 blue caprice like it and it came from Carter Chevrolet in McKinney too. They were likely there at the same time. Ours was probably in the used section and this one was probably in the new section. We bought ours in 83. Only had a V6 though. Very slow and poor acceleration!
I’ve never seen anyone cut a dash pad off like that. Looks like a box cutter job. I guess they’ll take whatever they can get. You must have been in SoFla where it never stops raining!
This car makes me cry being junked, she even has roll up windows,,damn I wish someone could have saved this car. I'd throw one of the LS motor and Trans combos in her that I have to put in my magnum wagons because these boxes are my 64 impalas
That car does not belong in the yard. Had to be a reason the yard did not offer for sale as a whole car. More door or not this car is solid and should be on the road.
Just a shame Benny. Shows the yards dont care. Both those box chevys 83 & 85 would sell whole quick & for good money. Still a popular style car! Such a waste!
Nope, code 62 Briarwood Brown, with a (likely) code 67 Dark (Briar) Brown interior. Very common on many GM cars from that era. My Oldsmobile Delta 88 is this combination as was my parents' 1983 Coupe DeVille. My uncle liked our Cadillac, so in 1984 when he was eligible for a new company car, he got the Oldsmobile in the same color combination.
@@oldyellow8120 Originally, it's like a pale lavender/light brown/champagne color. We've had two in my family (my parents 1983 Cadillac Coupe DeVille and my uncles (now my) 1984 Delta 88), and there were no fewer than 3-4 in my neighborhood back in the 1980s on my block alone.
I don't see the point why people like these dam Shoe box's..why there nothing but a boat on wheels not good for nothing but turnin it into a race car or durby..🤷🏻♂️my cousin had one and it road ok..
@@anthonycoach4551 No and f you knew anything about anything, you'd know that they were good vehicles. You drive an "A" body Cutlass, by your own admission. What do you think that it is? A smaller version of the "B" body platform shown here. Same basic design of the front end, rear end, steering brakes, and they even share some of the same powertrains. Benny you’ve been working your tail off lately ! Popping out 1-2 yard vids a day. Bless you brother love your work 👍
Nice Save it 🥰
Years ago i worked for a small town taxi company. We loved these .
Nice find, becoming fewer and fewer of these cars left1
one of my favorite cars Benny 👍
These junkyard finds are the cars I wish were on the used lots!

The only one those l owned was a 77, and the 305 was slap wore out but the body and interior were in great shape.
@@garymckee63 Yup, an "LG3" 305 V8 with two barrel in 1977, VIN code "U".
Good find Benny. Happy new year!
Was a cool caprice at one point but I don’t know why someone would have scrapped it?
Those were good vehicles.
One of the best GM vehicles ever made. The Caprice Classic was a work of art and simplicity at its best. They were excellent cars.
My dad had one of these when I was a kid from 1995 to 1999 but his was metallic brown. BTW I'm obsessed with these preferably this early 80's era.
Wow that's cool thanks for the update 🐱 it was ❤❤
These things are famous around Riverhead Raceway as blunderbust race cars.
NYC had a million of these in yellow once.
Yep, I remember those very well. Good times.
Man classic. There is soo much I'm interested in lol. I woulda grabbed so much off them box's man. Lol I needa b closer to where u are frfr lol
Sheeesh! Box Chevy....👀
Put the rims back on and drive it out!
Rims and if you watched, the engine & tranny are gone too. Not driving this honey out.
Dang there is no rust!
Still worth fixing. Wheels, engine, and transmission, and it’d be good to go!
Benny and the jets that car was nice they look it out of granddads garage.
I need the factory radio bad!!! Only thing I’m missing for mine

My 83 olds delta had same issue with the driver window
The plastic clip that holds the glass into the channel gets worn out. Motormite "HELP" at the parts store (part of Dorman) makes a replacement.
