    Downtown Winnipeg Main Street and Exchange District virtual walking tour 4K Canada travel vlog
    Winnipeg is the capital of the Canadian province of Manitoba.
    Main street and Portage avenue is an intersection in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, located where Portage Avenue and Main Street intersect. The corner is known as the Crossroads of Canada due to its relative proximity to the longitudinal centre of Canada.
    Winnipeg Exchange District is a National Historic Site of Canada in the downtown area of Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. Just one block north of Portage and Main, the Exchange District comprises twenty city blocks and approximately 150 heritage buildings, and it is known for its intact early 20th century collection of warehouses, financial institutions, and early terracotta-clad skyscrapers.

    I always wonder why exchange district has no one really walking on the streets all day. Unless there’s events ofc. Like there’s so many residential buildings. Where’s everyone?

      The intersection of Portage Avenue and Main Street is closed off to pedestrians, effectively killing of the foot traffic and the liveliness of the area.

    • @Josh-cw8by
      @Josh-cw8by Год назад +2

      Portage and main is the busiest intersection in the city. Allowing pedestrian traffic to cross would further congest traffic to the point it would become dangerous. Underground tunnels are used and offer a nice warm walk with store fronts available to take advantage of the foot traffic.

    • @den8863
      @den8863 Год назад +3

      @@Josh-cw8by Lagimodiere and Regent plus a few more are busier. Memorial and Portage is very busy with pedestrians crossing. Both Portage and Main are littered with traffic lights which have pedestrians crossing. Traffic will still continue flowing even whilst pedestrians cross Portage and main. If Main has the green light, cars will go north south as well as pedestrians, like any other intersection. Vice versa for when Portage has the green.

      @@lvfreeAdventures maybe. I live in Toronto and wouldnt change it for anything. Only thing its really expensive here...but its one negative in a bunch of positives. I lived in the peg for 6 yrs many yrs ago and it still looks exactly the same.

      I live in GTA as well, and Toronto changed a lot - but not in a better way... unfortunately. I visited Winnipeg once, and was very surprised in a good way after hearing all crap about the city... not sure why there is more negative than positive about anything nowadays

    • @stephenstuckey
      @stephenstuckey 4 месяца назад +1

      Fair enough. And im not sure why there are more negatives than positives regarding Toronto? What don't you like about it? We are constantly growing, there is everything and anything you can think of to do here. I absolutely love living here. Beside being really expensive I have nothing bad to say about it. Great weather, long hot summers, short winters. Amazing culture and diversity....amazing food. People out and about everywhere. Tons of urban parks rec bike trails, creeks and ravines. Great subway system.....ttc maybe not so much. I dont drive so traffic is not an issue for me. Public transit, bike or walk. I enjoy going out and meeting people literally from all over the world. The city is alive and bustling. I love it. It's hard to compare Winnipeg to Toronto though. Winnipeg is a unique little city, very bohemian, or used to be....which I liked. Great food as well. But I love Toronto man, what can I say?

    • @lvfreeAdventures
      @lvfreeAdventures  4 месяца назад +1

      I live long enough to remember Toronto much cleaner and less busier in term of traffic. I am not saying it's a bad city to live in (except real estate and rent prices) - there are so much to do and see for sure.
