Playa del Carmen Mexico Pros & Cons

- Cuenca Ecuador was not our first choice back in 2016 when we first decided to leave the USA and move abroad.
We actually had our sights set on someplace a little closer to home: Playa del Carmen Mexico. It's a town both of us had visited before so it was more familiar than Ecuador.
However, after doing a lot of research, we decided to book an exploratory trip to Cuenca, Ecuador for the Spring of 2017, and the rest is history! We fell in love with the city and moved back there 6 months later in September 2017.
In this video, we explore the pros & cons of Playa del Carmen Mexico, the popular expat haven that we did NOT choose, and finally answer the question for ourselves: Did we make the wrong choice?

Hi Amelia and JP, I'm a Canadian expat that's been making Playa del Carmen home for about 3.5 years now. I have also visited Ecuador back in 2022 on my mountaineering adventures. Didn't make it to Cuenca -- I was primarily in Quito and then in the mountains. I enjoyed Quito and I definitely enjoyed the mountains. At the same time, I am grateful to be making Playa del Carmen home. It's been a great, walkable city for my young son and I and provides all the conveniences of life at prices still quite a bit lower vs. my former city of Toronto. Our last sargassum season was quite intense (It's unfortunate that that's when you happened to visit.) Since then, I can tell you that both the municipality, the Quintana Roo government, and the hotel industry have taken decisive steps to deal with this issue. We are just approaching the start of our sargassum season for this year (which is usually May to Sept) and I can tell you that I'm already seeing the clean-up crews at work. Also, we actually have multiple public beach accesses in Playa. It's understandable that if you don't live here you may not know where they are but they are quite a few and easily accessible. It's one of the draws of Playa del Carmen. One of the things I most love about Playa is the international community - especially since the rise of the digital nomad lifestyle - we have many people from the US, Canada, Western Europe and beyond, making Playa home. I also appreciate the overall health consciousness of Playa. There are Sooo many options for yoga and all kinds of physical activites, as well as spiritual circles e.g. cacao ceremonies, sound healing events, you name it. And yes, it's sunny and hot here. The winter months are quite pleasant but yes, if you come here from roughly May to Sept, you may be surprised at how hot it can get. Some digital nomads go to Europe for the summer or to different parts of Mexico, or perhaps even back to Canada or the US. For those of us who make Playa home year-round, we've got the amazing cenotes to keep us cool (cool and clear fresh water bodies unique to the Yucatan Peninsula) and of course, air conditioned gyms and cafe's ;) I am personally planning on spending a bit of time in the Mexico City area this summer inclunding climbing some mountains around there. The connectivity of Cancun Airport (and now the newly opened Tulum International Airport just South of Tulum) make travel in and out of Playa very convenient. Finally, one last thing I'd like to say: Playa is not just 5ta Avenida. I remember being a tourist years ago and loving 5ta Avenida. Once you live here, you only go there with a purpose e.g. going to a particular cafe or restaurant. The rest of the time, you go to wherever in Playa your activites may take you (yoga, the gym, the kids' school, Latin dance night, etc) Overall, I know your video was a fair assessment of Playa based on your experience as a tourist here. I figured I would add a bit of perspective as someone making Playa home for the past 3.5 years. Thanks for 'hearing me out.' And keep up the good work on your channel!
Thanks for sharing all the extra details! We love Playa and will probably make it one of our homes someday. 👍
@@brendajo8589 Congratulations regarding your upcoming home purchase! Puerto Morelos is absolutely lovely. I know you will enjoy your life in this area 💗
Thank you for writing this. I've been in Playa about ten years now (minus about a year and a half in Mexico City, and trips back home to Canada). I've seen many changes. Your points about beach accessibility from many different streets (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, Constituyentes, 26, 28, 38, CTM, 72, 88, 112) are band on. Yes, sargassum is seasonal, and also depends on the winds, South winds being bad for sargasso, north winds being the best. All in all, Playa is a very nice, liveable city.
🙂 Thank you so much for sharing this. I am considering becoming an expat from New York. I would have my children with me as well. Nice to hear from a parent. I have to get used to the idea of not putting toilet paper in the toilet. I know I or my children would mistakenly do it. And I worry that if you can't drink the water, should you be bathing in it?
@@hopesdaughter5947 Glad you found my comment helpful 😊 The water here is full of minerals (hard water) so even though it’s technically potable, nobody drinks it. Some people get shower filters to ‘soften’ the water, something I’ve not gotten around to personally yet but that I do think is a good idea. You would just have to replace them probably every 6 months as they would get full of calcium etc
Just as an FYI - all beaches in México are public and you cannot be denied access. even at the resorts. you can't use their facilities or chairs, etc but you can hang out on the beach!
You both do such a great job of not "stepping" on each other while you talk. Enjoy your videos.
This is a very informative and reality based honest review. This is the stuff people want to know. I trust these people.
Greetings from Cartagena! Super video! Thank you for showing all sides of Latin America and bringing notice to Ecuador, which often goes overlooked by ex-pats. When I started traveling to South America in the 90s, youtube did not exist. I was jumping into a void. There was no way for me to know exactly what to expect or not much of a way for me to share what I had experienced when I would go back to the States. You guys are providing a fantastic and important service. Keep it up!
I almost moved there 20 years ago, love that coast line, but decided not to in the end... the hurricanes can be pretty devastating. Tough choice, I do love Mexico and especially the Caribbean, but also am loving Ecuador. No mistakes, only experiences.
Well said! Life is all about the experiences.
Happy Sunday you 2!
It’s My 1 year anniversary of living here in Playa. Great job describing the town. It really is a great location to explore the entire Yucatán peninsula and a soft landing for a new expat. In the next two months I’m going to travel and live in central Mexico for a while in a less touristy area.
You guys are becoming experts in Latin America! Congratulations on your excellent RUclips channel! Definite star quality!
I enjoy the local people of PDC and the people watching along 5th while enjoying some food or drink at a roadside establishment. The aggressive approach of the street vendors is just Mexico; after a while you learn to deal with it. Over the years the depth/configuration of the beaches changes with weather/hurricanes and the south (Playacar) beach is usually the best.
The seaweed is a negative, but sometimes I just travel over to Cozumel where the west side of the island is usually clear of seaweed. Other than that I just try my best to ignore the seaweed; they try hard to manage it.
The biggest con (for me) is the heat/humidity during summer months, which happens to be the same months with the most seaweed. I love PDC from November through April.
Thanks for your video!
The wife and I just returned from playa last week and we were both so disappointed. We went to playa for our 25th anniversary back in 2000 and loved it. The trip last week was our 18th trip since 2000. A lot of the beaches were gone and the smell of sewage was horrible. Our two favorite beach clubs were so run down we didn’t even stop. There is still a lot of great things about playa we liked but I doubt we will go back. Who knows we might see you in Cuenca.
You guys are really looking healthy. All that natural food and fresh air.
Playas great to be honest . 5th avenue is beautiful with great restaurants and entertainment but it’s expensive . If you live on the other side of the highway , life is much cheaper and relaxed . You still have the option of 10 min drive to 5th avenue for date nights . The sargsm is true the area does suffer from it may-aug , but there are a lot of beaches near by that don’t get hit hard with it . Happy for you guys enjoying Ecuador
A shout out to you Amelia and JP. I spent the weekend in beautiful Chicago, but no humanity. I am an American, and looking to move abroad. I love the beautiful Mexico.
Mexico is soooo beautiful!
Check out Mazatlan,,beautiful very little Humidity temps are great too.
I totally agree with you. I want to find a nice quiet base to call home and then travel around to the busy tourist areas but then come back home where it's quiet.
That's my plan also, 😌 😎 my family thinks I'm 🤪 don't care, I fell in love with Cuenca so that's going to be home.
I'm just going to Ecuador but, will visit friends in Mexico and other South and central American countries...I am sure your choice was super 💞
I lived in Puerto Rico and Miami, and the hot, humid weather became tiresome. Some people love it, but just not for me. Altitude of 6-8 thousand thousand feet is my sweet spot!
I don't think Playa del Carmen would be near as an enriching experience as Cuenca and Ecuador in general has been. I think you made a good decision.
Thanks!
m i wonder why mexico is the second most visited country in the world
The heavy tourist districts I don't like - I vastly prefer being in the local neighborhoods where the experience is more original and the prices are reasonable, too.
Thank you for this video!! We are retired early in late 50's, just purchased a home in Playa del Carmen and looking forward to it. Appreciate your honest assessment. May visit Ecuador and Columbia but need to have a flatter surface with my physical limitations.
We love PDC! Congrats!
We loved Playa! We stayed there for three weeks and loved it.
Two friends of ours also left in 2016. I thought they were nuts at the time but …. Anyway they went somewhere in Costa Rica. They moved on a few years ago to Valencia Spain
Valencia looks pretty awesome.
Toluca de Lerdo ‐ mountain living in Mexico 🇲🇽 Cool climate and peaceful ✌️
Move to Greece. Beautiful, extremely safe, and not expensive as expensive as USA, Canada, or Britain.
I am so sad about all the changes you mentioned about Playa Del Carmen. I was there 20 years ago and I loved it but I have to admit I did see the signs of the coming changes that you mentioned. I will visit again but it sounds like it's gotten a little too expensive and too touristy for my comfort.
The best beaches and best area to live is the Playacar neighborhood south of the downtown strip. Check it out he next time you’re in Playa. I’m curious if you would have stayed in that area if you would have a different opinion on your choice of where to live.
Damn playa still has "Babes" the restaurant! Best curry I ever had. Moving back to playa in a year and hopefully its not as expensive anymore.
I have been watching your channel for a month now. I am from California, East of L.A.. I retired after 27 years and came to Cali, Colombia. I have a friend who retired 3 years ago and I came down to check things out. My visa will run out so I am arriving in Cuenca on the 24th with a 3 month Air BnB. Your videos have been a great presentation for myself and I am sure others as well. I would like to take the two of you to dinner if you are in Cuenca when I arrive. Eric
Bienvenidos, Eric. Hit me up at my username at Gmail if you'd like a walking tour of Centro and a beverage. We'll be here until May 3.
Fair and honest review, I lived there for over 10 years. Tourist area and local area. You forgot to mention that you can easily get to Cancun, Cozumel, Puerto Morelos, Akumal from Playa del Carmen. Tho I left the beach for the mountain as well. Was about time! 😅
hola Amelia & JP, We found Puerto Vallarta more precisely Nuevo Nayarit, more interesting in Mexico than Playa del Carmen, better beach and dryer… for sure it is a bit expansive and price increasing a lot. And for adaptation and spanish learning it ia a good transition. we will stay a couple year here and we will need to visit Equador eventually. Wish you all the best.
I use to dive in Cozumel in the 80’s & 90’s and flew into Cancun and immediately taxied to Playa del Carmen and stayed at the Blue Parrot - a hammock and palapa for a couple of pesos. Then took the ferry over to Cozumel. Then Cozumel put in a cruise ship dock. My last time there I was having my breakfast and watched about 500 gringos March down the malacon - white socks, fanny packs, sunburns, and a atrocious t-shirts. That put an end to that. And then Playa del Carmen put in their own cruise ship dock, and that finished Quintana Roo for me. Moved my diving to Honduras on the Bay Islands. The tranquil little pueblos of old have vanished. So sad. Viva la Cuenca. And better weather. And for the beach vacations - Olón hits the spot. Lousy diving, but great beach and food. The sierras rule…Ecuador, Colombia, and Mexico.
Puerto morelos just north of playa is a more laid back option.
Shhhh.......😊
I’ve been visiting Playa del Carmen for 12 years and recently last year; I’m not going back; it changed so much…for the worse.
Great content. Learning as I go along....
I went to Playa del Carmen last year. High priced shops and tons of sargasum. I've never been to Ecuador but from your videos looks like you made a great choice.
We currently live in Aguascalientes and like it but we're still exploring Mexico...
a fair assessment - I have been living in Playa for three years. I agree with everything you said and have not found a water supplier other than the big bottles at the corner stores.
Have you looked into berkey water filters? I live off rain water at the moment and berkey are awesome
All of the pros you pointed out were enough to make me NOT want to move to Playa Del Carmen. The cons just sealed the deal. I live in a mountain tourist destination. I'm trying to get away from that.
I looove mexicohow ever every travel to ecuador just makes me want to mlve there!!
Thanks for scouting. I stopped at "hot and humid". I look forward to your other videos. Onward!
20 years ago we would dive Cozumel, then take the ferry to Playa to dive Akumal and the Cenotes.
Playa was just 5th Avenue and a few condos then.
It was too small then, and now it's too touristy.
Just returned from San Andres and it was wonderful... No Sargasso and nearly deserted. Apparently, since Viva Colombia went belly up and lost several planes, there are very few flights into San Andres so, there are very few tourists these days. Don't know how long that will last but, for now it was very nice.
I went to playa del carmen 45 years ago and that was when it was beautiful, not anymore and very expensive
Playa del Carmen looks like a tourist trap, albeit an expensive one. A bit like Puerto Vallarta.
Do you really want to live in a place inundated by tourists with shops just like in the States? Do we really need to have a Walmart, which tried to come to Europe and failed completely? Is a street loaded with shops selling you tourist junk and people trying to sell you something or scam you, something that you would want to see every day? Not my cup of tea. But if you are a honeymooner with money to spend and don't really feel like getting immersed in Mexican culture, it looks like a winner.
I love the topic.
While waiting on my surgery, I told my anesthesiologist (born and raised in Bogota) that I was looking at Bogota for retirement because of its climate. He emphatically said NO! His mother and aunts remain in Bogota, and he can't get them to leave. He recommended Chile. Before he could explain his suggestion, the surgeon was ready; it was anesthesia land for me.
Talk about a cliffhanger! You'll be wondering the rest of your life what his reason was and so will I now!
Of course, your life in Chile will cost twice what it does in Colombia. Somewhat safer, but you pay for it. After two months in Cuenca, we are off to Argentina for a while. Cheaper than Chile, better wine, we'll see.
@@BOULDERGEEK Argentina should have good beef.
Argentina is fantastic, particularly if you come with $US
There are no wrong choices just different ones. Playa is VERY touristy. Ecuadorian drivers are pretty much awful. I too thought I'd move to Mexico but ended up in Cuenca. If I didn't live in Cuenca it would be Mexico City. Also I'm not a beach person.
Another great video! Thank you.
I have an old coworker and friend that has lived in Mexico for 14 years now (from Vancouver, BC). He lived in Guadalajara for the first 7 years (he needed reliable internet) and now 7 years and counting in Playa. I've gone down to visit a few times and everything you say is 100% true. I got the "Hey remember me from the hotel" line as well. I asked my friend how can he stand being attacked every 10 feet to buy something and he said he just ignores them and keeps walking. I'm more like JP and just could not deal with that everyday. Living on the other side of the highway is much different and even the north part of 5th isn't as touristy.
I work with a few resorts to book travel North and south of Playa de Carmen. The employees locals with the travel company I work with prefer to live in Cancun. They said between Playa de Carmen and Cancun although PdC is closer commute for them they prefer to live in Cancun. 🤔
Love you guys. Ya I am not into humid or being a tourist. But loved this review.
You are the best .
I am planning a 30-day visit with my pet. To move with items from the US is expensive.
I will sign in for your news letter.
Yes, it is much easier to leave as much as you can behind. That's what we did and we have no regrets!
The Inca leader seemed to like Ecuador better than Cusco way back in the days before the conquest. It seems like there's lots of nice places in Ecuador. I'm always spending time in Mexico, because it's close and I really like the Coast along the Pacific and the culture is amazing as well. I also had amazing times in Brazil - it's just a long distance given we have grandchildren in Phoenix.
Cuzco is pretty lovely, too. But, without an airport, it is very isolated. Cuenca wins there.
@@BOULDERGEEK Cuzco is a lovely town, but it's sort of on a desert. Ecuador is in a unique area where there's like four or more climate zones all around this one smaller country. It's got the Andes, the Ocean and amazing scenery, too.
Loving all the content you two share. You have addressed medical costs in Ecuador but I would like to know about Cosmetic Surgery costs there. Also what recovery facilities are available and if they accommodate different dietary needs such as plant based. Thanks for all your hard work!
Comparing all of 109,000 Sq. Miles of Ecuador to the town of Playa Del Carmen is a unreasonable comparison. Ecuador has more than 6X the area of the entire state (Quintana Roo) that Playa Del Carmen is in. (I've been to both and liked them just fine.)
Great video, thanks!
I started visiting Playa del Carmen and Tulum in 2016 before it became the beaches became inundated with sargassum. It's such a shame how it is now because those beaches and waters used to be postcard perfect.
I’m cheering for your 100k!!!
Thanks!
The entire Caribbean and Gulf has massive issues moving forward with Red Tide and Sargassum. It’s becoming a year round thing…lived here in Tampa Bay on beach and the red tide gets worse every year and that’s just going to be the new normal.
Nature. No big deal.
@@happyinparadise7812 Red Tide is from increasing run off and warming temperatures. Lots of things in nature are unappealing and not desirable to live near
That volcano erupting over there? Nature! No big deal!
@@davidmann2524 It's called life. Living is not for the weak. Enjoy life to the fullest. We do. Viva Mexico!!!
I live in PDC. This video is mostly accurate with a few exceptions. 1. You can flush toilet paper everywhere in Playa, so not sure where you got that impression. 2. Sargassum is seasonal, May to Octoberish, but it does suck. And playa has great beaches, just not in the tourist centre. Cheers
We couldn’t flush it in our Airbnb a few blocks from the tourist center.
I also live in Playa (one block from MEGA) and if you flush TP in my apartment building it blocks the pipes. The main sewer might be good but our little packages from heaven have to get from the lav TO the sewer.🙂😂🤣
Well, it is a gorgeous high altitude bluebird day in Cuenca. I sure don't want to be in PdC or Cancun today. We just got what would be a $500+ consultation with the director of osteopathic medicine at the hospital for $50 out the door. Dinner for two delivered to home last night was $11. Everything we do is 1/4 the price of the US. For me, only Mazatlan, Queretaro, Guanajuato or Tequisquiapan, Mexico make the consideration list
Very interesting all the places that were you choices. But I would love to see if you guys go argentina chile, Paraguay or Uruguay. Specially Argentina where the dollars are cuadrople and the quality of life is great out as well.
We have been in Cuenca for two months. We are heading to Argentina and Uruguay for the same reasons. It's been 10 years since we were last in Argentina. Now dollar blue is 440/$1. Should be interesting.
We are in Cuenca as well, but here things are getting expensive and so cold lol. And we will do our exploratory trip this august to argentina. When are you heading there?
@@aniceemalley1424 May and June
@@BOULDERGEEK ohh we are going August due we want to skip the winther which is may to july
We are considering Belize and after watching your videos Ecuador is now in serious play.
Great! Belize is nice, especially because English is the main language, but it's lacking quality healthcare.
Those cons are real minor...I love the beach so Playa works for me...not too bad as far as sargassum this year
Being that I was born and grew up in Fort Lauderdale, and then further north on the Florida east coast, I’m not interested in that life anymore. It certainly has advantages. I feel like we were fitter because it was so hot and we were in bathing suits all the time, and with the heat I have less of an appetite.
But tourist traffic and restaurant one hour waits.
And hurricanes. Hurricanes!! 🥵No thank you.
Rolling up on 100k subs - impressive.
Amelia and JP, if you have answered this in previous posts then please ignore. How safe would you feel about living near or in Guayaquil? Do you think a visitor should concerned with the safety / crime in Cuenca?
Hello JP and Amelia. Thank you for such amazing content you put out there regularly. I have found it very useful. I am hoping for your insight. I would like to visit Ecuador, and I would like to bring a drone that weighs less than 249 grams. Please share your experience with bringing drones as a tourist. Thank you, have a wonderful day.
Thanks for the video. Are you guys back in Cuenca now? Last I heard you'd moved to the coast. Just curious. I've been in Cuenca 6 months now and love it!
Many good choices you have there. My wife (whose from Ecuador) and I will be going to Ecuador the first week of July. We are planning for sure to go to Cotacachi and if we can swing it, Galapagos. The last time we went there was back in 2017 I think, so we are overdue. And if things go the way they are, we will be retiring March/April 2025. Also, if I am being honest, I should not have put off learning Spanish for as long as I have... I need to learn it. Any good leads on programs to help with that? I am looking into Pimsleur to start with maybe.
It's true, beach cities are good for vacation only. I also prefer mountain quiet areas for living than hot beach weather 😊
I'm in! you two are fabulous!
Didn't you guys relocate from Cuenca to the beach at Olon because you were suffering living at such high altitude?
@@CarlosRodriguez-ox3bg OMG, that's terrible. Good to know they've gotten their privacy back. Thanks!
When I come to Ecuador, plan on bringing some Sucre. What amount should I bring to start and what is the biggest bill that is reasonably usable in the local stores, markets, etc? Thanks
You both are looking so healthy and fit!
So...do you regret the decision to move to Ecuador, Amelia.
Thank you for sharing your experiences and information.
Not one bit!
Interesting. Dud you feel the 6.7 earthquake this week. News said the city was tore up pretty bad in some places.
Playa is too hot, now the seaweed and it seems to be getting more dangerous. I’m doing slow full time travel. I’m in San Jose Costa Rica now. Heading to Quito next week for a month and then to Cuenca for a month. Love the vids.
What do you think of Puerto Morelos? Mexico
I have a question,. US dollars are the currency used in Ecuador, have they lost value there like they have in America?
No. Same currency; different economies. Inflation peaked at 4% and is now closer to 3%.
Have you visited Vilcabamba in the Loja Province Ecuador?
wow! the beach has really gone downhill! That used to be the clearest bluest beach EVER.
It is but depends on the time of the year due to Sargasso
Is air pollution still a problem in Mexico City?
Yes. I wear contact lenses and I suffered the 2 weeks we were there last year. Still had fun, but I don’t think I’d want to breath that air all the time.
Hi guys! I know you keep your actual location private but can share the elevation? I am assuming that it is a lower elevation than Cuenca based on JPs issues with that elevation. I am looking for a great place to spend some time between 4,500 - 5,500 ft that is relatively close to Quito and the international airport. Thank you so much!
With the drug cartels moving in do you think it's safe?
Thank you so much for sharing! Went to Ecuador couple weeks back and visited a vast majority of the places that you recommended and I love them all. I could easily see myself moving to Cuenca! It's just a lovely little town and the weather was perfect for me. Don't get me wrong it got a little chilly and it rained at times but it wasn't anyting I wasn't unhappy with. Anyway thank you so much for sharing I'm going to keep watching and see what you guys do next!
Both of you should try some time in the South Pacific... Very different to Latin America.
I lived in Fiji 🇫🇯 for 2 years and in Tonga 🇹🇴 for a year and 7 months in Samoa 🇼🇸. Although Fiji 🇫🇯 was relatively affordable the rest of the South Pacific is way more expensive than Latin America . Personally I adore the Pacific nations and lifestyle especially compared to Latin America (I lived in Mexico for 11 months)which has terrible crime and violence …..but each to their own I guess 🤙😎

It is!
Was just in playa del carmen for my first time to Mexico i really like it and had a great time but it felt like the U.S.A to me
I've been mia for a while, where are living now? back in Cuenca?
Hi , did you guys eventually return quenca ? Where did you guys finally land. Quito ? Why cant i find a vid on the capital . Thanks again
About not flushing the toilet paper. I travel a lot throughout the Southwest USA and I've noticed at the truck stops, they've started putting up signs in the bathrooms telling folks to FLUSH the used toilet paper. I've seen lots of examples of used paper thrown in the corner of the stall. YUCK!
Hola JP, Have you adjusted to the altitude in Cuenca yet ?
You sure did!!!
I love you guys
Thank you!
Cool shirt, Dude!
You can’t drink the water so it doesn’t matter. Costa Rica the superior choice
What mountain towns in Equdor would you recommend that has a lower altitude ?
Vilcabamba is at 5000 feet. Mindo is another option at 4100 feet but it is not as developed.
@@AmeliaAndJP In other words - Ecudor has no comfortable climate "city's" to really chose from ? (only villages or small towns) - Most of the cities are cold and high elevations that often bothers people - like JP ? Vilcabamba is so remote & hard to get to + god forbid you might need emergency medical specialists where they all understand English.......Loja perhaps a great climate - but again primitive in many ways if specialists are needed and transportation is "iffy" from what I hear. --- In short very limited compared to Mexico for example ?
The Philippines in all the places AREN'T Pedestrians friendly either. Even if your walking on the shoulder of the road or in a Dedicated lane for bikes & people your liable to get ran over, honked at or cursed at
By coincidence, I just returned from Playa Del Carmen three weeks ago. Just went to relax not to see if I should retire there. The place can get very hot in the summer, It is way too commercialized now, it is a "Party Town" some of the clubs went on until 4am and I could not sleep. The crowd is all young folks and it is just a place to party. Food was great. Sargassum sea weed was congesting all of the nice beach areas. Not a place I would choose to live. Plus it's Mexico. It can turn dangerous or nearby areas can be dangerous to drive through so, no. Not for me.
