About the "dogs". Woodworkers have bench "dogs" that don't bite. If you made the contact point wider with smaller pins you could call them "cats". Might cause a sensation.

What do dogs do ? They debark . LOL Do honey locust have the flowers and black don't or are they male female ? I was near some flowering locust boy did they ever smell nice . My brother said you could put a locust post in the ground and it would last for ever and not rot off . they dug a black walnut squared timber out of the river bank that was over 100 years old . People talk about gum trees in the United States ,I never heard that in Canada . What tree are they referring to. You say popular where we have popular that beavers cut down and the big log cousIns we call cotton wood . Ours has cotton silk with the seeds in the spring . I cut a Catolpa log 30" and had it sawn into boards oily and full of water and smells terrible when cut into even after dry and really soft ,you can dent it with your nail . Thanks and keep sawing .

Down south there is a Water Locust - Gleditsia aquatica that appears so much to be a Honey Locust - Gleditsia triacanthos. It grows in wet damp areas hence its name. The immature Honey Locust is easy to ID in that the leaves are different (Simple compound) than when they mature but the adult leaves of both look the same (double Compound). The bark is different between the two. Black Locust - Robinia pseudoacacia is in another tribe entirely. Yes, they have thorns too.

I knew a guy who had some good sized black locust on his land. He planned to use it for a fence around a horse pasture. He was going to take it a local mill to get square posts and fence boards cut. Unfortunately, he waited 2 to 3 years before hauling it to the mill. The sawmill was comparable to John’s bigger outfit. The old sawmill guy completed the work but told the customer if he had any more to get sawn, he was more than welcome to take it somewhere else! It was very difficult to saw and took a long time due to hot blade issues. 🥸👍✅
