Thank you so much for this video!! It's so important to highlight women's leagues too!! I'd been following the WPS during its heyday, the transition, to messy ownership, to teams folding, the NWSL, and I plan to keep supporting this league!! Whatever challenges may come!! Go Dash!!⚽️🧡
There was a USFL team called the Boston Breakers with a similar logo. Formed in 1983 they moved to New Orleans in 84 & Portland Oregon in 85. They went defunct in 86 along with the rest of the United States Football League.
Love the vid! Ive been a fan of the nwsl for quite a few years but i never knew the history behind any of the names, the chicago name contenders were quite shocking to learn about!!
Don't forget that a depiction of Delicate Arch in Arches National Park is included in the Utah Royals FC logo, presumably to highlight the natural beauty of the state.
Well yes it looks amazing but to an person not from the area they may just think it's a logo for SD tourism or even the city seal. The should of added a ⚽️. Now I know it's no longer the 90s but if you're not going to put FC or SC on the logo you have to put something to show it's a sports team.
Absolutely something I want to do! I have to figure out the structure to handle the lower leagues/relegation etc… like in England I could make a video on something like a couple hundred teams, going all the way down 😅 so I’ve got to figure out the structure there that makes the most sense!!
I don’t know if someone’s already pointed this out or not, but you seem to have missed that Chicago’s name is a double meaning. They are indeed named after the Red Stars of the Chicago flag, but ALSO the name of Serbia’s top sports club, Crvena Zvezda (The Red Stars) soccer and basketball clubs. Similar to other homages like Sporting Kansas City, and many in US minor leagues. I hope this is helpful info
Yeah that's a good connection! I remember when Marco Grujic signed with liverpool from Red Star Belgrade! I think there are a handful of Red Stars in some other leagues as well!
@@JustinLearnsThings I think that last part is true, many countries from the former eastern block name their clubs in similar ways, common ones are Partisans, Dynamo, and naming after worker’s clubs like Locomotive, electric, miners, ETC
Crvena Zvezda was an name chosen to reflect the club comminent with communism (Other suggested names were"Proleter", "Stalin" and "Lenin"), as it was foounded just after the communist Secretary of Sports signed the decree dissolving formally all pre-war clubs on the territory of Socialist Republic of Serbia. So it does fit Chicago. Stranger is seeng the male team calledHouston Dynamo...
There's also Red Star F.C. in Paris but the team was orginaly named after a ship & had nothing to do with Communism. Because of the name most of thier fans are far leftist.
The problem with the NJ/NY Gotham is New Jersey not getting any recognition without New York in the name. - Gotham refers to New York City (i.e. Batman - Gotham City) - The Statue of Liberty 🗽 is physically located in the State of New Jersey - The team's stadium is physically located in the Town of Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey - There is NOTHING New York about the team I'm sick and tired of New Jersey always playing second-fiddle to New York. And don't get me going about the Red Bulls, Jets and Giants.
Liberty island is technically an exclave of NY if remember correctly… I think that CGP Grey made a video about that a while back! But I get your sentiment… a pretty long history confused intertwining of NJ/NY…
We have an update regarding the Utah Royals Football Club: _They are coming back for the 2024 NWSL Campaign!_ Therefore, you will have to update this video. Can’t wait for that. No pressure.
For next year the 2 teams that will be joining are a new team in San Francisco Bay area, and the rebuilt of Utah Royals, so if Vancouver may get a team probably may be for the 2026 season along a new team in Boston
Gracias, excelente trabajos, por favor publiquenlos en español, soy muy curioso y me encantan datos como estos, fanático mil por mil de los Orioles de Baltimore y de los Cardenales de San Luis, repito, por favor traducirlos al español.
@@TheMrPeteChannel Fortunately it seems OL Groupe put OL Reign for sale, so hopefully the new owners remove that stupid logo that while may be good for a men's team is idiotic for a women's team, some people had comented that logo looks like a lion eating a pringles.
I've been an NWSL fan for years now, and so many of these details I never would have picked up on! great content
Thank you for watching it! The NWSL has some of my favorite designs!

That’s awesome! Thanks so much and couldn’t agree more! Hope to do the WNBA soon too!
@@JustinLearnsThings I'm looking forward to seeing the WNBA video when it happens. Go Liberty! 🎉

You should do one of these on the WNBA teams soon. I'd like to watch that.
Definitely on the list! Thanks for watching!

Oh wow I feel blind now! Can’t believe I missed that! That’s awesome! Thanks for pointing that out!
Why are these videos so entertaining?
Wished my state had a team I just can't get into a team.
btw: Lyonnais is pronounced like Leon aye
That makes sense! Thank you! And thanks for watching! Yeah I hope that they expand the NWSL more soon!
It's always great learning about sports history.
Thanks for checking it out, glad you liked it!
that san diego logo is amazing
Agreed! It really turned out awesome!

Very very good video!! Thanks for made! Can I dream with a video about the PHF teams?
I’ll add it to my list!!
So many good logos in this league! Go Current!
Yeah the NWSL Logo designs are probably on the whole my favorite! Almost all of them really good!
Really hope you do a video of Liga MX, they're my favorite League out there! Maybe even some European Clubs?

Nice! Can you do esports, like the Overwatch League and the Call of Duty League?
I’ll put it on the list! That one would really stretch me, I’ll be starting from zero!!
You should do How it was named | AHL and How it was named | ECHL
I’ll add it to the list!! Thanks for the suggestion!
you should do the Major League Rugby team names too
There are a lot more new crests/logos this year. New teams as well. Washington Spirit might possibly have their rebrand logo revealed soon.
I’ll have to look at that for this year!
Would be cool to get a USL championship video
Yeah definitely! I’ll put it on the list! 🙌
1:34 - TAMMY MURPHY, wife of Phil Murphy (D) , Governor of New Jersey
Oh wow I didn’t realize that who the team chairperson was!
The Utah royals are back this season and I’ve got season tickets 🎉🎉🎉
That’s awesome!
Great job I don't like soccer but enjoyed the video
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Nice
Thanks for checking it out! 🙌
How about Canadian premier league and cfl
On the list eventually!
utah royals is back
Going to have to make an update for the video!

The Statue of Liberty is technically in NJ waters, just like the stadium, so yeah
Interestingly Liberty island is an exclave of New York surrounded by New Jersey waters! I think CGP Grey did a video on it a few years back!

Not everything is shown here. And nothing was shown about any commerce and other things... This was very bad quality.
I always hate when videos fail to show commerce? 🤷♂️

Haha 😂 thanks for watching!

because it’s a french word?
Lol

there are so many lioness logos. i wish more teams picked a different animal lmao.

I don't care who owns them. Get rid of OL & the image of a MALE lion representing a FEMALE team.
