    Thank you SO MUCH for these tutorials! I've worked through the first 12 and ordered a copy of your book. I'm so impressed by the clarity of your instruction, and I also appreciate your calm tone. Occasionally I find myself wishing for an over-the-shoulder perspective on what your hands are doing, but this is a minor issue that I can work around by just replaying some bits a few times until I rotate it in my head. Thanks again!

    Just wanted to log in to say......These are awesome and very useful videos. This strikes me as a (about to get deep here) a very unselfish act where you have clearly spent hours imparting your knowledge to divvies like me who know nothing, NOTHING! The world needs more unselfish acts such as this. I have already taught my 5 year old and 2 year old some of the simpler pop ups. So your know how is already in the future!!! What I am trying to say is.....thanks muchly, I think you might be awesome xx

    Hey! First of all I want to thank you for your channel and book, they are of great help for my project (wedding invitation) and now I am all in love with pop-up art and want to keep on doing it :D I am using the page you gave as an example in this video from Brava, Strega Nona as an inspiration for my project and I managed to figure out most of its parts, but I am really stuck at the characters sitting around the table. I was looking especially at the guy on the far right side of the table (blue, red and yellow costume), since I can see a bit of it as you turn the book around and I like how he raises the glass. I can tell the bench they are sitting on is a parallelogram, but the folds he has and how the raised arm is attached elude me for now, although I have watched this video at least 50 times (and others and images as well). I am experimenting right now on some options, but I am hoping you might be able to help me a bit on this and give me some clues, I would really appreciate this. Thanks again!

    • @thepop-upchannel4919
      @thepop-upchannel4919  7 лет назад +2

      Hi, All the characters sitting round the table are based on the 45-Degree Fold Mechanism built into the gully formed between the vertical side of the table and the ground. There is a slight modification - the legs of the figures project through vertical slots in the side of the table and the piece attached to the ground extends up through slots in the bench and then becomes the body of the character, The central crease of the 45-Degree Fold runs from a little below the character's shoulder down to the edge of the bench nearest the table. As the spread closes this crease comes forward creating a gully behind the character. A small Parallelogram (1cm. x 2.5 cm) is built into this gully. The short side of the Parallelogram extends forward above the shoulder and is the head of the figure - the long side extends backwards and is the arm raising the glass. Hope this description helps.

    Hi, absolutely loving your channel! I've been using your videos to help me make my own pop-up book. I would really like to make an archway into one of my pages similar to the one from the brava strega nona book, however I'm really struggling to work out the mechanisms behind it! How does it work?

    • @thepop-upchannel4919
      @thepop-upchannel4919  6 лет назад +1

      Yes that is an amazing mechanism - a bit too complicated to be able to explain just using words here. Maybe I can include it in the next series of videos which I might be able to make early next year. Meanwhile I do explain how to make a more simple arch in Tutorial 34 at 11.20.

      In the videos I use photocopy card (160 gsm) - you can use heavier card but in that case you'll need to score it. Detailed information is in Tutorial 1.

    3: 43 ruclips.net/video/7QxnmSdw2Sg/видео.html and if it is very complex to do it. thanks a lot
    your work is really useful...

    • @thepop-upchannel4919
      @thepop-upchannel4919  8 лет назад

      I think this is a variation of the Twisting Mechanism explained in Tutorial 17. In this case though I think the top piece is made with two folds (a mountain fold and a valley fold) rather than just the single fold as shown in the tutorial. Giving it two folds makes it possible to have a slightly larger mechanism fitting into a smaller base.I hope this is helpful.

    Can this be used with the strap?

    • @thepop-upchannel4919
      @thepop-upchannel4919  4 года назад

      Yes. The Floating Plane is built across the base sheet's central gully - The Strap creates two gullies, one on each side of the base. So when you have made a strap you can actually build two Floating Planes onto the pop-up spread.

    • @thepop-upchannel4919

      The base of both animal designs is the Floating Plane (Tutorial 12) - the elephant's head is made with a Curved Shape (Tutorial 12), its ears are made using the Slot mechanism (Tutorial 11) - the neck of the giraffe is made using the Asymmetric V-Fold (Tutorial 4).

      The best is rigid without being thick. 160 gsm - 220 gsm will all work fine. If your model is big use thicker card, if it's small you can use thinner. In the tutorials I use 160 gsm.

    • @thepop-upchannel4919
      @thepop-upchannel4919  8 лет назад

      I looked at your Paper Art Show Reel - I'm a bit surprised that you need guidance to make a table and chair! To make the table I would start either with a Floating Plane (tutorial 12) - or a Box mechanism (tutorial14) but with a lot of it cut away to leave only the table legs (You'd need to use quite strong, or double thickness, card). Then to make the chair build out from the uprights using the technique explained in Tutorial 8 (Adding small 3D pieces). In Tutorial 22 at 2.11 there is a brief view of how complex parallelogram structures can be built up. Remember that as long as the dimensions of the pieces are right then very large amounts of the card can be cut away to leave the shape you want - this is really clear in your show reel.Hope this helps.
