Bram van den Boogaart discusses his father Bram Bogart’s practice, tracing the different periods throughout his career, his creative inspirations and his painterly process.
Bram Bogart’s solo exhibition, ‘Signs’, at White Cube Hong Kong brings together work from 1952 to 2009. During his life, Bogart became known for his dense, object-like paintings which fused gesture with substance, sensual colour with minimal form. Immersed in the formal concerns of art, his was an ‘art informel’ where the ‘handwriting’ - the rhythmic brush strokes - of painting could be used to ignite abstraction with meaning.
