      I think the reason is because his own mother wrote a parenting book. Why in the world would you go and read one if the person you're supposed to be closest to wrote a book like that about you? He probably thought most parenting books were more like paperweights or door stoppers 😅

      If anything Sheldon is preparing them to be the best parents. Leonard has the intelligence and the social skills to get by while Penny has Street smarts n knows things that can get their kid out of a situation.

    Baby/toddler books have great advice for dealing with 'difficult' people. I used to do it a lot when I worked in customer service. It's freaking amazing how well it works to treat a Karen or boomer like a toddler.

    That advise with offering alternatives does actually work on adults, too. Maybe not as magicaly as here but it was one of the assertive methods my therapist taught me. 😄

      It's is actually a great way to resolve conflicts of interest. I sometimes wish people did it more actually, because I easily gets locked into one choice and if i can't fulfill it I crash. When I crash I burn, which isn't useful for anyone, but that's fully my autism making me blind to alternatives

      My sister and I fight over the holiday menu every year (among other things) and instead of fighting her this year I just gave her options to choose from and she did. It completely diffused the situation.

      I was in the Marines and the number of grown ass men I parented out of a tantrum was wild.
      “You can gather yourself here and try again when you’re calm, or you can gather yourself back at your office and come back when you’re calm. Here? Would you like to sit in that chair in the corner or step outside? Chair? Good choice. It’s hot out there. I’ll bring you a bottle of water and we can try again when you’re feeling more like yourself.

    A friend of mine with a special needs nearly non-verbal kiddo used to say "do you want (option) or no?" And it worked so good I use it with adults too 😂 now it's an automatic sentence for me.

    Parenting methods work with adult very often. We are not much different than we were as kids so sometimes that advice or added direction and discipline really helps

    My mum did something similar to me when I was a kid she used the dog WhispeRer technique on me and it actually worked when the teachers asked how did you do that and they didn't know to be Horrified or imprest😂

      There was a sitcom from back in the day where the sister was using a modified American Kennel Society training book to train her boyfriend and it worked. I think it was Smart Guy, they were doing some kind of experiment on her. Guess I know where they got the idea for that episode now 😂

    The choixes thing works actually especially with stubborn children or chiodren just overwhelmed. Ive seen it. I work at a school. 5 year old child refusing to come inside a school out of pure stubbornness, give them options. They dont want to go to class but they are going to so the optiojs are "do you wsnt me to walk ypu to class or do you want her to walk you to class?" Or "do you wajt to walk by youeself or walk with someone?" Either option gets them to do what they need to do. Now granted, its not 100% effective. But its another tool in your belt to use.

    Sounds like when my children went through the supposedly “terrible 2’s” that most parents complain about. I didn’t have that problem. I gave my children choices (that I approved of) and let them pick what they wanted. They didn’t feel the need to defy me then.
