I really like your videos, Ms. Jones. I'll be 40 soon and I promised myself to spend the next forty years writing science fiction and other genres, whether I get published or not. I started writing professionally last year, but this year I'll take it even more seriously. I'll get published. That's my goal and I'll probably write in English too. Fingers crossed. I wish you the best. Love from Brazil - and then Toronto, and then Montreal.❤
Good luck!
the cover art for Hotel for Hungry Ghosts is gorgeous!
the short story illustration is SOOO beautiful! it's so cool to hear you narrate your own story (i'd be way too self conscious haha). the way you brainstorm and draft sounds so similar to how i write too! i want to cram so many ideas into my work and it's hard to rein myself in lol. also i just about screamed when you mentioned LOCAL HEAVENS 😭 (thank you again for reading it!!!)
the way i instinctively click like your videos BEFORE I start watching them ... girl you've done something to me. i am not just a loyal subscriber, I'm your fan. damn
Perfect timing! I finally just finished with my homework and was about to sit down for a chill moment before I started writing for today, so yay!
I can't wait to read/ listen to your short story! SO HAPPY FOR YOU!
Always such a wonderful video. Your editing is impeccable
I love the way you edit your videos, overlaying your narration over your footage in the library instantly took me to an old fashioned style hotel
That library looks absolutely stunning! It could be its own character
Your storytelling is so evocative, Christy!
In terms of wanting to put everything in, I am much the same and I always think it is better to get it onto the page and take it out later. Sometimes you can use those clippings in a future story, and I also find that the only way out is through - meaning that I need to get all that detail onto the page and work through it in order to find my way through the story.
Even if my reader will not know those intimate details, I need to know them as the writer to know what happens next.
absolutely love your vlogs 💗
I finally broke through with my novel!! I've been stuck at 150 pages for MONTHS.. finally made it to 155..lol Celebrate small victories, right!! I love your videos
Your videos are always so beautifully shot and soothing. Safe to say I hit play so fast when I see it pop up on Sunday morning!
The vibes of your local library are an absolute dream! It would be impossible not to be inspired in there. Mine looks like a 1970s bus station 😂
I was totally hooked after hearing you read a snippet of The Hotel For Hungry Ghosts! I can hardly wait to read it. I absolutely love the cover!! I will take my current -15c compared to 42c any day.
we've got a snowy morning where I am and my plans for today were cancelled - but now I plan to write! But first your video for a little motivation!
that cover art! very excited to read the whole story today. 🖤
1 minute ago?! Best sunday ever
I was so excited when I saw your video this morning. I'm currently on the first draft of my historical romance novel, and this just gave me added inspiration 🎉🩷
I am totally happy to see what you are doing. You seem so happy and contented with your work. Feels lovely to me. I also write but only fragments or aphorisms evoked from my readings of philosophy or observations I've made about life. I have no interest in publishing, just continuing my work and hiking in the local woodlands in the meantime. I wish you well in your work. I accidentally fell in here and found your version of life very attractive. Please be well and keep on doing the lovely work you're doing.
your vlogs are so lovely and cosy
Congratulations on the short story, and to Tyler as well!
i never listen to audio books tbh but hearing your short story made me really want to listen to one now!! loved your writing ❤
What a great way to start another week! 💖 Thank you so much for your recent regular uploads, they've been a real treat :) (Side note: I was wondering if you ever considered recommending your favourite meals to prepare. All of your vlogs show such yummy and seemingly (?) easy to prepare food 😂)
I was just thinking to watch a good video and just now you uploaded the video, i gonna watch your vlog after this comment , i really like your videos and love from Pakistan ❤❤❤
I really enjoyed The Hotel for Hungry Ghosts!! I can't share all my thoughts here without giving away the story and themes to others, but it's a thought-provoking concept. My favorite part was the little paragraph halfway through that begins, "Back in the tearoom." It's very detailed and atmospheric and feels to me like it encapsulates the whole story into a single moment.
Congrats on your short story! Love the cover. :) I need to write more short pieces....
I would really recommend John Berger's 'Ways of Seeing' for your book!
2:26 seeing this the day I'm working on the first draft of chapter 3 of my novel
It’s snowing here and I get some time to write!
Wonderful story!
I hear you on the sun cream! I hate it too! Everyone tells me I need to wear spf on my face, but I just can't. It's like a gross texture thing for me. I hate the way it feels on my face and the smell of the zinc.
The Lismore bit got me good lol
You mentioned the sun cream causes pimples. Check to see what is in them. I'm allergic to every brand but only because I'm allergic to cocoa butter, cocoa oil, and Shea butter (among other things). You could have a contact dermatitis allergy. I've also read the God of Woods and look forward to hearing what you think!
2 minutes ago! Best before bedtime activity!
Is that “always” tattoo from Prof. Snape?
If so, I find that line, the way it was delivered, the way he conjured the Patronus, everything, to be the most powerful line in the whole Harry Potter movies.
first video as a subbie!!!
I love your outfit
Hi! From someone whose skin hates sunscreen, here are the only two I can use: Avene Sunsimed, that my doc told me about and it's fantastic + Caudalie's fluid called Vinosun Protect: amazing too. I'm on these for two years now and haven't had any skin reaction at all anymore.
Hello smiley, jealous of tylr 😭
First of all, big fan watching your videos makes me feel connected with a creative person which in turn makes me a bit creative, thank you for that.
Maybe it's not the most importan thing but, have you ever talked about the tools you use, your laptop, tablet, keyboard, maybe websites you use for research?
Saludos from Mexico.
❤❤
Oww I have the same problem as you with sunscreen!! Have you ever tried Dermage Photoage Water?! It works wonders on my skin (in fact is the only one that doesn’t ruin my face!). Love your chanel! Cheers from Brazil ❤
Mortlock Wing is the best place to write fantasy.
me in qld: wait there's other UV ratings other than ultra?
Curious about what you think of Gof of the Woods because I was so disappointed by this book. I don't get the hype. I struggled to not give up on it.
Raw time?
hi, Dear Christy
I love watching your videos, but for whatever reason youtube decided that if I am a native spanish speaker (as I am) the automatic dubbing is necessary and now I can't listen to your voice but instead I have to listen an AI speaking spanish and it's the wierdest thing ever. 😂😂😂 and there is no option for me as a viewer to remove that thing
I just wanted to let you know 'cause it's funny but I miss the video without an intervention
have a nice day.
P.D: If this also happens to anyone else reading this comment I would be very grateful if you can help me 😅
Thxs
Is there a reason you are trying to stop yourself from overwriting right now? As opposed to just going hog wild and cutting it down after the story is finished. Seems like it would be easier to revise it once it’s in front of you instead of trying to hold all that in your head! And you’ve shown you’ve already done it before!
Good question! I don't mind over writing by 10-20%. That's the kind of word count that's easy to cut later becuase it'll mostly be a slimming of the prose.
The overwriting i want to avoid is when the book bloats higher than that 20%, because there will be a point where it's not just simplification but you would have to remove whole scenes, character arcs, plot points, etc. These things can be much much trickier to edit out, especially on a complex story in which everything hinges on everything else.
So, it's just me trying to avoid the tedium of problems later down the road by writing thoughtfully to begin with 😊
Does a writer need to take high-level math in collage? Thankyou
no no absolutely not! I hate maths! I did a statistics class in university but only becuase they made me
@@christy-anne-jones So the writer doesn't need to take high-level math in collage?
