- I visited Penang National Park which is an area of forest and unspoiled beaches. It's also free to enter, making it a perfect day trip for a Scottish traveler.
I walked from my Airbnb condominum (see my last video: • $40 AirBnb in George T... ) into the tourist trap area to the backpacker street called Lebuh Chulia. It's basically Penang's version of Bangkok's Khao San road but nowhere near as awful.
I visited that area because it's very easy to rent a scooter in less than a few minutes. At the first guesthouse I tried I got a scooter right away for 30 ringits per day and I was on my way, to the National Park.
The traffic was annoying in the city centre with many one way streets, I kept going around in circles and having to stop to pull out my phone for Google Maps. Eventually after getting out of that mess it was a pleasant drive along the coast with not much traffic.
I fueled up for the hike with a nice young coconut and a local delicacy of jackfruit deep-fried in batter. Anything that's battered and deep-fried is delicious to a Scotsman's taste buds but the jackfruit was particularly nice.
I'd planned to hike to Monkey Beach as I had several years ago. I had good memories of that trek and wanted to relive the experience while vlogging. Unfortunately, do to landslides the path was closed and I instead did the hike to Turtle Beach which is less popular but more unspoiled. It also has a small turtle sanctuary there that's also free to enter.
Disappointingly, it seems that swimming is banned at Turtle Beach. Well, yer man's never been one for following the rules, has he?

Aright, but Dale , For your own safety ,please never swim in any pond, river or sea pool if there's a notice of "Danger", "Do not Swim here" or "Do not get in to waters" or a picture of crocodile. In Sri Lanka if you see such a notice , it means that it is TRULY a dangerous place to swim , such notices are put to save the lives of people

Cempedak, the smaller cousin of the well-known, jackfruit. It adopts the Malay name as it does not have an English name. It is a seasonal fruit native to southeast Asia.

Swimming is prohibited in most places due to threat like jellyfish, stingrays and sharks (no sharks here though).
many local people do not swimming at that place because they know ocean water in penang is dirty 😄

Swimming is prohibited mostly because of jellyfishes. I lived on that beach for about 2 months. At night sometimes it is possible to see glowing plankton in the sea. It is very beatiful! It looks like something magic! I started to swim and jellyfish byted me. It was nothing serious but since then I stopped to swim there) By the way there is very nice camping with kitchen, shower and toilet. Thank for video! It was nice to see again my favorite place)
It's not just jellyfish. Research has shown that there are rip currents as well (Pantai Kerachut or Turtle Beach). Reported cases of drowning
Yes it full of jellyfish..but the real is the beach is quite dangerous to swim, my friend also almost drown here ...

Awesome vid! But you're lucky really that you didn't get stung. When I visited that beach I saw hundreds of jellyfish from the pier!
I didn't see any at all. If I had there's no way I'd have gone in.
Jellyfishes are seasonal
the trail to the monkey beach has collapsed at a few spots but not totally inaccessible, i went there in August it was closed but a guy told me that they intentionally closed it so the boats can earn more money.
but i would suggest you to take the boat to the monkey Beach because the bush already grown pretty thick on the trail due to the lack of hikers so you might encounter a snake

if you come back to Malaysia again, do visit Kuala Tahan Taman Negara, You will enjoy real jungle trekking, trek suggested Kuala Tahan to Lata Berkoh (yes you can do river swimming there). Trekking to Turtle Beach Penang is much pale compare to those in Kuala Tahan.

Visited Indian Town, the Train Hill, Hard Rock Cafe (enjoyed the Skyhigh band) for the two days I was in Penang! I loved it out there, but I wouldn't get into the water as it is polluted with fuel and who else knows what. Love your channel!

Those sounds are from cicadas (insects), they have different sounds from crickets, it's longer sound of "crii~iick" instead of "criick, criick, criick" like how cricket sounds. They live on the trees I guess, trees with wide canopy on summer.
About the board on the turtle beach, I think there were 2 people drowned but they saved, 3 others died (with the same cause or not). Or maybe 2 people died bcs drowning, another one died of jellyfish stung or something else... I don't know 🙈

The third guy who died was executed for swimming at the prohibited beach.
Two swimmers drowned.
The third person was a fat man from California, that didn’t have two strong legs like a Scotsman, he paid a local for a boat ride back to his scooter, but being a weak man from California, he was quickly subdued by the locals with a non recycled kitchen knife, and the locals used him has bait. In turn, catching enough fish to feed the entire village for three days. True story.

Not Jackfruit but Fried Chempedak. It's a cousin of jackfruit but taste great when fried.

@@Dale_Philip sorry, it's spelled Cempedak. The fruit is smaller, more fiber, more expensive and mushy. Jackfruit usually is much bigger.
