- Position is everything! Knowing where to place your parting lines, sprue and vents is critical to the success of your molds and castings.

I sculpted the character in this video for a kid's meal toy for Tricon Global Restaurants, now Yum! Brands.
It is a character in Scary Scary Monsters by Jim Henson. - Хобби
I'm always impressed by your attitude and commitment to helping people. Thank you.
No question/statement or anything just here for the algorithm
I'm really missing your longer videos, but great content all the same!
There are longer videos in the works.
Love the paper demo! Sometimes the older, simpler methods are the best.
Animator and information designer (and occasional caster) here… your animation pleases me. 👌
I don’t have an issue grasping the sprue/vent concept, but I vote for more paper animations nonetheless, please. Haha! Very nicely done!!! And I don’t recall that Muppet book?!? How cool to see!
It's funny - I just started playing with making pop-uo books on my Cricut Maker I bought (for leatherwork), great to see paper-based animation here on the resin casting channel ;)
You can use a cricut for leather?
Did not know that.
@@madtabby66 not universally, but some applications for sure - I convinced it to do some embossing and some cutting that saves me time.
Great way to simulate the pouring method. Thanks Robert.

I absolutely love your videos! Your explanations are always so helpful 😄
That is such a simple but beautiful representation!
A video from you and the youngling on the same day?! Nice.
That paper method is a great visualization.
The paper visual is a great idea!
that visualization was awesome!
yet again I sit and struggle with figuring something out and you post an entire process of how I could do it, perfectly explained and fun to follow too. Your 'IRL animation' was brilliant.
You have NO CLUE just how valuable you are Robert, thanks again!!
Thanks Nicole!
A very clear and concise demonstration, top notch.
that paper thing is sorcery!!! 🧙♂ 🤣
Nice way of making the mold filling example
Aw man that paper simulation is slick.
Like 👍🏼
Like for colored paper
Bob, sometimes simple is better.
Excellent!
MONSTERS
Any idea why you make most your adsense money in the fall? That's super interesting.
elementary classes (e.g. art classes) are taught in the fall semester; students go online for answers. advanced students in the spring don't need to learn how to make sprues and vents because they already know. in the summer class is not in session.
Advertising ramps up in the fall because of Christmas.
hey Robert, thanks for the amazing videos. i'm trying to design a mold for a 3d printed part and was wondering- how would you mold/cast something shaped like a box with a lid resulting in one face with overhangs? thanks again
That visualization was great. Any chance you're into origami as well?
Hey
I saw some videos from you and i think you doing this thing a long time ago and have much experience with molding and casting.
Can you recommend a silicone for me to make moldings.
I want to make molding from silicone but dont know which one is the best.
Do you think cheap silicone is as good as expensive ones.
Do you know some brands which you work with and are great ?.
Can you link some silicone brands.
Thank you
Always interesting, thank you!
Would love to try sculpting in that wax. I usually use chavant. .. what is the name of that wax?
Ps, beeswax got me out of a jam this week, literally! Thanks to you! 😎
It’s an old wax. I bought out the remaining stock when the company discontinued it. Many sculptors formulate their own wax. Monster Clay is the closest commercial product to it I know of now.
Hey man could you try casting a bakugan? Really need some help with these guys
The ones I looked at online are super complex. To make them you would have to do what the manufacturer does, cast each piece separately.
very handy trick with the cutout paper! What minimal thickness is preferable for a sprue, like 0,5 cm? (for a small sculpt)
The sprue is always scaled to the cavity to be filled. You’ll get a feel for it. If your sculpt is, say 50mm tall, 0.5 cm should work ok. If you are not certain make the sprue bigger than you think it needs to be. The only cost is more cleanup on the casting and a little bit more resin wasted.
@@RobertTolone Thanks!
a simple but perfect way to see it
how does a plastic master get use to make a metal injection mold? what is the process?
Nowadays the process is all digital. Back then they would make a mold of the model and use that negative impression as guide for machining the injection molding tool.
Seeing you that close up Robert is definitely different 😆 🤣 😂 ❤
Different as in scary
@@RobertTolone not at all 😆 😂
Are they going to use your silicone mold as a model for the aluminum mold a plastics factory uses?
They did. This toy came out in 2000.
