how is it possible brisbane has gone backwards since 1991? yeah ok we have more high rises, but literally NOTHING more to do, and the standard of what is here has gone downhill. the myer centre had a freakin theme park on its top level, and a nightclub in its basement level that did strong trade and hosted legitimate touring bands. now its respectively a boarded up ceiling and a decrepit food court that limps into a target. remember the wintergarden food court? it was properly nice and had a damn indoor rotunda with thatched wicker chairs. broadway on the mall? same. even basic stuff like ripping out the fountains and green space in king george square...for what, a concrete car park with a pig n whistle? like...what was the point of that? good work brisbane, carrying on the culture of the tram removers...making changes trying to please everybody that end up pleasing nobody.

I grew up in Logan, Brisbane in the 1990s. I was only 12 at the time of this video but I remember the Myers Centre clearly. My parents took us there often. As soon as 1991 came around and I hit 13, it was game over. Brisbane was the best place to spend my teenage years. I came back to New Zealand in the 2000s but a piece of my heart will always be there. Thanks for sharing this great memory and making us not forget ❤

Thank you for sharing this video. I loved tops and used to go there with my friends all the time in the early 90s. My clearest memories are of the Dragon Coaster, so it's wonderful to see footage of other areas I don't remember so well.

Myer isn't there anymore. The rest of the centre is open, but its now called Uptown and the upper levels don't have many shops now. The place is really dead now. The owners are trying to finalize plans for a redevelopment to take its place.

The swing ship? I thought it was known as the pirate ship. That's what I called it, anyway. :D

Thanks for sharing!! I was in grade 10 when you filmed this!! I was at Boarding school in Brisbane and used to live at Tops on the weekends!! OMG I feel so old seeing this!! 2 years after you filmed this I was in the Army based at Enoggera and used to hang out at Arizona's night club under the Winter Garden!! That was where 6RAR used to go and we nicknamed it "The Pit" as it was underground lol!!

Thanks for uploading. This is our history. I think this is only one of two videos on RUclips with the Tops Myers Centre. I was born in 1988, so 1990 was too early for me, but I remember Tops in the mid and latter half of 90s as a kid.

This is amazing I never thought I would see the Myer centre tops rollercoaster in motion again in my life and it was a very good thing but I was too small to go on it while it existed. These days my experience with Myer centre is late night movies when you don't get access to the whole place and the buses underneath is very handy

I had a few seconds of it on film myself, disappointingly little, but being 1989, it's the oldest view of the once-magical showpiece that I know of on RUclips ! ruclips.net/video/uk2S0aEguoM/видео.html

a much more simple time back then, wish we could go back. The myer centre is just a shell of it's former self now.

even more so since Myer left. In fact the entire upper levels only have Diaso, Lincraft, Mr Toys and the cinema left. And the owners are already planning for a mega $500 million redevelopment, so I think the centre (now called Uptown) is in its last days

Lots of interesting stories came out of there, like it being 'haunted' :)
