Doctors took more fundamental science courses than PA. So technically, doctors have better analytical abilities since most of the straight memorization is forgotten a week after the examinations. However, analytical abilities are individually based, determined by one's genetic make up. Since the practice of medicine is routine, there is NOT much difference between doctors and PA.
Keiliel Jones I like the flexibility that PAs have over NPs, that they get to switch specialities where as NPs cannot. NPs and PAs also have different teaching models
I love you guys! I’m going thru breast cancer have had six months of chemo so far, a double mastectomy on Monday and still have a year of chemo to go; however, you both brighten my day! Loved your weekend trip away together! 💗
This was so helpful! Along with your first Q and A video. Adriana, you are hyping me up to go to PA school!! My question for Adriana, is there one specialty you recommend trying first out of PA school setting aside personality and preference?
Dr. Cellini I know that you attended a D.O. school, do you mind sharing your stats that allowed you to get into the school, or maybe how you liked the actual school. I also would like to hear how you managed to get into IR from being a D.O.. It's actually so cool because people say it can't happen, and I'm interest in going D.O., but not being a primary care provider.
I saw from the UNC page that he went to PCOM in Philadelphia, just applied there myself! But I think it’s just a matter of the work you’re willing to put in during med school. There’s plenty of DO’s that specialize though. There will always be fewer due to the fact that there’s only about 30 DO schools in the US (so of course there will be more MD orthopedic surgeons and whatnot) but that doesn’t mean that you can’t get there if you reeeally work for it.
Your perfect as a couple. Both bubbly and sparks when u look at each other. Yes making quality time together is so important! This Christmas will be our 50th.were actually opposites but balance out well. Many many years of blessings to both of you!
Thanks Dr. Celine! You really I inspired me to become a radiology technologist!!! I really want to specialize in cardiac interventional radiolographer!! You were a big influence!!! Thanks!!!

Specijaliziram radiologiju i na zadnjoj sam godini specijalizacije. Jako je zanimljivo pratiti kakav je program u Americi. Puno vas volim i samo nastavite tako dalje! sretno :)
Largely speaking there has been a great deal of legislation that has moved Physician Assistants (PA's) on par with Nurse Practitioners (NP's). Ultimately the biggest challenge for PA's is the misnomer is the title that PA's are "assistants". Legislators are timid with passing legislation giving PA's optimal team practice (OTP) because of this. However PA's are moving forth with a title change that will bring greater clarity to the profession and prevent the confusion between PA's and NP's. The interesting truth is that PA's are trained in the medical model of medicine, which is the same model of medicine of Physicians. PA's curriculum was designed in the same manner to how they accelerated the training of physicians during WW2 (Fast Track). PA's are trained in a generalized approach to medicine and MD's are trained with specific approach. PA's have 1 didactic (Book learning) year and 1 clinical year (2,000 hrs of hand on clinical experience) and MD's have 2 years of didactic and 2 years of clinical. PA's can enter the workforce immediately upon graduation and largely continue to learn from their physician counterparts, however there are PA's who do go into specific residencies (emergency medicine, orthopedics, OB/GYN, etc). PA's largely have collaborative agreements with physician/hospitals in order to practice medicine. MD's are required to go into a residency before they practice which can last 3 years or longer. NP's follow the nursing model that is only specific to nursing. This is the patient centered approach but not the medical approach, which is disease/pathology centered (Medical Model). Nurse practitioners need to be nurses first but the nursing boards do not have any specific edict that nurses need a specific amount of hands on experience to become nurse practitioners. Nurse practitioners need 500-750 hours of hands on experience are are often granted full autonomy after passing boards. This is extremely troubling as Nurse practitioners are not trained in medicine and require the least amount of hands on experience and can see patients in 33 states with no requirements to consult a physician.
Christine B so can a pa work in crna? Or? Does your friend mean that she would’ve instead done BSN Rn to crna? BSN to crna is through an msn? Or through a dnp?
@@CA-wi1fo Alot of PA derms will take a pretty bad salary for the first year (80k/90k) because its so hard to get into. You then work for a year and now that you're experienced you can renegotiate or go to a new specialty. A lot of derm PAs are making 200k
I think it will be the future of primary care medicine, particularly family medicine. There will always be physicians and they are currently moving more towards specialties over primary care
Not exactly. Medicine as a whole is evolving. Most fam med see everything from obstetrics to PEDs. to over 65 pts. PAs help with routine stuff. Like little Timmy with a strep throat or a diabetic coming back for the 5th time for refills.
There is not a specific major you need to have. They care about good gpa, gre, Medical hours,PA shadowing. For example I am majoring in Psychology I want to become a PA so I have to take the necessary classes needed for PA school so I can also double major as pre PA and psychology so God forbid If I don't get into PA school then I will apply To graduate Psychology program so I have PLAN B.
big p Yes! I’ve heard of applicants get in with that GPA, but make sure you are stronger in other sections such as having many medical hours or GRE scores (hope this helped)!
Hey Dr. Cellini and PA Adanna! What led you both to getting into the medical profession? Adanna have you ever considered going to medical school? As a PA do you find patients preferring to see the doctor over a PA? Are PA's able to practice in other states more easily than doctors?
I do love the Q&A questions it was a great video! Also thank you for using my question! I would love to hear a little bit about your swimming career. I also was a big-time swimmer.
I completely understand how hard swimming can be. I actually got invited to swim for the University of Cincinnati. But I struggle with LD all my life that kind a hindered me from going. Maybe that would be neat to see how the brain works, why ppl have Learning disability LD. I have been told it was my slow growing Brain! Lol 😋
Hi Dr. Cellini! I was wondering if you could discuss in your next episode of Wet Reads the AAPM's statement on gonadal and fetal shielding. Should it be discontinued during radiographic imaging whether it be diagnostic, CT, or any of the other modalities?
Hi! I’m currently in my last year of schooling to become a radiologic technologist. I’m curious to know what your favorite and least favorite procedure is?? Love your channel by the way!☢️
Hello Adriana, I have a question regarding about the "PA Friendly Area". Please kindly clarify more of that. I would like to learn more of this. Thank you 😊
Hello Dr. Cellini. I wanted to say that your videos have been a big motivation for me getting into medicine. I have question regarding my pre-med major. I am currently a Biology Major and I was wondering if I am taking the right path in possibly being a future radiologist? Also what pre-med major were you while in college? I very much would like your feedback. Thanks and Blessings to you and your beautiful wife.
Hello to my favorite medical/ RUclips couple! Found your channel as I reapply to medical school for a second time 😩 chasing the dream! I’ve considered PA school many times and am actually applying to a few PA programs too this time around in case Med school falls through again. Not gonna lie, listening to Andrianna’s perspective reminds me that I can be a badass woman in medicine regardless of whether I have an MD/DO title or not. I do have a question for her specially; what would you say is the level of autonomy you have as a medical provider and do you ever feel as though you may have a better plan of care for your patients but your physician supervisor doesn’t agree? Or do you feel this depends on who you work under and their level of trust? Thank you both ❤️
A PA in the US is very similar to a NP on their scope of practice, but PA school goes a little more in depth, is less research based, and follows the medical model rather than the nursing model. Personally, I think a combination is ideal for patient care. I'm in nursing school and plan to become a PA after 3-4 years of nursing
New doctor should look at a position that Gregory House of House MD TV show! He is always defiant and still does well. Insult staff, patients to for fun!
Both are stunning , fucking gorgeous they look alike , the length of the nose and type of nose are so similar ,looks like they been together for years.
What type of hours did your wife need to get into PA school from undergrad? Shadowing, working, etc. Or did she only need working hours? And did she have a medical job (such as EMT/scribe/etc) during her undergrad years to gain experience to get into PA school?
If I remember correctly from the first q&a she was in an accelerated program that allowed her to do it all in 3 years and was a practicing PA at the age of 21. So impressive. So I’m curious about her high school stats and experience.
Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and science prerequisites. Hours of hands on patient experience is usually required, whether it's work or volunteer related. Three letters of recommendation. Some programs require GRE scores. Shadowing is not always necessary, but it shows you have the drive. Check each separate program for requirements, as they tend to change now that the program is getting more competitive.
I'm a Occupational Therapist Assistant and trying enroll in PA school, or should i just go straight to OT instead. Are there any tips you can give to us OTA people?
I was PTA currently pa-s2. It's a good route overall but still need to do Orgo 1 and 2, biochemistry, as well as the microbiology and genetics ore reqs. Some schools require physics 1 and 2 as well
I laughed a little that people who know your last name could think you were Croatian as it is hard to get a name more Italian sounding than Cellini. Your last name is cool.
Is there any technique that you recommend communicating with a patient for a PA or doctor that cant use the voice to speak? Or, is there any field that requires fewer communication skills?
Do you think there is any chance of radiologists getting replaced by computers? I'm hoping to become a radiologist but am nervous about where the field is going in terms of technology!
Sir, if a physical therapist of more than 10 years in practice eventually trained to be a PA, can he/she still practice both professions at the same time? Will being a PT add more status to his status, practice and pay as a PA? I'm talking about a PT who has worked in critical care for most of their career. I'd like you to answer this with input from your beautiful wife. Thanks.
I know you might not see this since it’s such a late comment. But I was wondering what would be the best major to get into for pre-PA? I’m currently in high school and I’m really interested in becoming a PA.

Do you have any advice for non-traditional students (i.e., students who began premed, have a science degree, work in the sciences, but not in the medical field), who are in their mid-thirties? What percent of students are applying for PA school who are mid-thirities?
Hello there I‘m from Germany and we don‘t have PAs, just nurses and doctors. Don‘t get me wrong but is the job as a PA like an upgrade of a nurse? Can someone explain me what exactly a PA ist? Thanks a lot 😊
A mid-level because in the US doctors can only see so many patients. PAs can be used to prescribe meds and order labs/imaging studies on routine patients and do routine injections as well in any specialty. The AMA defines their scope of practice as determined by their supervising physician, which all PAs need.

Im trying to decide between majoring in biology or biomedical. Do you have any advice or does it just come down to your personal interest?
Erin. wc18 I think it’s up to you! As long as you take the required classes you need for PA school it doesn’t matter what you major in

Really interesting video, one question that I ask myself is: What are the things a Physician does, that a PA can not do or at least not unsupervised?
I’m an Angio tech working in IR at a suburban Chicago hospital system; it’s really cool to watch your path and POV in this career field 🥰
Enjoyed this! Thanks y’all!
I love being a PA in EM 14 yrs now. Hope to see more of your videos ...

Love the video! I start PA school in June 😊😊

Take the prerequisites and apply! Sincerely, EMS person who just got into PA school 🥰

Hello Dr.
Biology with a concentration in pre-med.
you guys are the best! both working in medicine...my dream 🤩!
When at medical school can u just study radiology or do you have to learn everything and then specialise in it later on?
All doctors go through the same 4 years of medical school before specializing.
and resident year 1 is very similar too but it is more surgical or more medical, so 5 years
Have you ever worked alongside or know of an IR Nurse Practitioner? And if you have what were they able to do?

Are PAs specific to the US? I’m a nursing student in Canada and have never heard of them! I feel like maybe they’re similar to nurse practitioners?
