The other thing is that Outlet stores clothes are of lower quality than mainline store. The clothes are specifically made for Outlet in most cases(its not surplus cloth). The brands which are premium in India are middleclass brand in the USA(CK, Tommy etc. ) .

As a textile person manufacturing fabrics and garments for all these brands (sometimes the price tag also is printed and hung from here only) always wondered what a margin the middle man - the brand owner- makes and the manufacturer makes peanuts. But that's the way marketing is. Now all these brands are available in India also. A tail piece India is a small player in textile field now even behind Bangla Desh. China is the biggest giant in this field supplying more than 50% of the world's textile needs.
I was told that the price of a 75 dollar shirt is a dollar from the middleman. Store makes at least 95%. Maybe even more.
Ok, here is how it goes. One middleman. He comes to an agreement with stores like Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's, JC Penny.
Now listen carefully. The store agrees on a price for a shirt, like $1. They specify the material, the thread count, number of buttons, the thread to be used. And so on. Now this middleman have contacts all over the world. Now he will go shopping get every minute thing he needs from all over the world and bring it to one place like Bangladesh or Guatemala or Vietnam and start working. He is not stitching one shirt. He is stitching maybe 100 thousand shirt for all of US, Canada. For all their chain stores.
He will make 10 cents profit on one shirt. Now multiply that by 100 thousand. The store will put a Price of $59.
This is happening every 2-3 weeks. The stores wants to get rid of old sets and bring in new styles. So they mark the prices down and try sell their current stock of clothing. After a week or so they are sold off to stores like Marshall's and TJ Max.

Producing lower quality products for brand outlets is common in India also. I always wondered how brands like Biba etc produce such low quality items when i visited brand factory once. Then i heard that this is not the same items that we get in Biba outlets in shopping malls and boutiques

One experience I felt when I ordered online I got very low quality of branded clothes
