TheRealDerohneNick with Vigilance you can win the game cant you just keep attacking with it and you can block it untill your next turn attack again and block again im confused sorry
I've been playing since the first Innistrad and this has been one of the better tutorials I've seen. It doesn't over load the newer players with rulings and in explains the actual basics of the game. Good job guys, will direct new players to this video for sure.
Ok so Toms turn was first and i know everything you guys did was on point but why did he draw a mana card if he wasent allowed to on his first turn he drew
I just want to reply to this bc I really really agree. I’ve been trying to learn on my own and this video answered a lot of questions I couldn’t find answers too. Thank you🙏🏻
How to play Magic the Gathering Turn 1: Play an island. Turn 2: Play a second island Tap both islands Cast Storm Crow Win the game (If you get into magic get used to hearing that joke)
Kris Valle this is the simplest tutorial ive ever seen... if your new to tabletop/card games you're in for a shock this isnt a quater as difficult to learn as others
Yeah I've been playing the game since I was 6 (I'm 17 now for reference) and the only reason I watched this was because I enjoy videos with Lewis in them (the guy to the left) Although I agree, this is a great tutorial :D
Yeah. It's also been the most popular card game on the market (beating out even hearthstone in popularity.) since it originally came out. Well, I take that back, the Star Wars CCG has been more popular than it in the far past (around 1999 and 2000 or was when the SW CCG was more popular) That said, even though it's the most popular, it only became the best selling a few years back when they started releasing what I like to call "super ultra mega special super awesome special cards" that you'll only get in every 100+ card packs. (Yu-gi-oh, was the best selling card game, incase you were wondering)
Chavier_ no no, not like they are functionally different games, would be better compared to Force of Will or Hearthstone, you know. Card games that actually share similarities...
Wish I could give two thumbs up. I have watched several videos just to understand how to start a game... this is the best one so far. Thanks fellas and the team who helped produce this.
As someone who has never played Magic and has played a couple of hours on Hearthstone, I am compelled to say that Hearthstone ripped off Magic after watching this simple but quite informative video.
Tysm for this very easy tutorial to follow! I am a yugioh player but the comic shops near me DO NOT host yugioh tournaments but they host magic the gathering tournaments so I came here to learn how to play magic the gathering tysm and keep up the good work!!!
If only I had friends to play it with. :) Probably better for my wallet that I don't, though. I'm just waiting for my son to be old enough to play pokemon cards with me, hope I have the money for it by then. :p
Thanks guys :) seriously the best Magic introductory video on the web (better than the one on there own site) thank you for taking it slowly and explaining every aspect! You guys rock! x
Thank you sooo much for this😊 My older brother recently got me some cards and arranged a deck for me. He tried to teach me but I didn't really understand. This helped.
Yu-Gi-Oh doesn't have such summoning sickness, the graveyard is a 2nd deck that has effects from monsters that was sent to there. Traps/spells have different effects while some monsters has effects while many are used for ritual/special/synchro/xyz/tribute/link summoning a.
Thank you guys so much! I really appreciate this video! I started Magic a few weeks ago and I was completely clueless. I opened 4 bundle boxes x2 Ixalan, x1 Amonkhet and x1 Hour of Devastation and didn't know what I pulled. Now I have a much better idea! Since I have Vraska planes walker and vraska's contempt and deadeye trackers, I will make a green black pirate deck! I also got Carnage Tyrant, Ripjaw Raptors and Fericodon so I will make a green red deck. :)
The idea is to get alot of land early on so that you can summon monsters with it. each land is represented as a mana. its very simular to yu gi oh, there are some diffrences like, magic the gathering dosen't have any fusion monsters. in yu gi oh you sacrifise monsters to play bigger monsters in magic of the gathering you just need to have enough land and you can summon any creature.
I have a few questions What is the maximum number of cards i can have in a hand at any on time ? How many land can i have on the field ? How many creatures can i have on the field?
you guys are awesome but sorry confused on the first bit only 😂 man im bad at understanding technical stuff Ok so Toms turn was first and i know everything you guys did was on point but why did he draw a mana card if he wasent allowed to on his first turn he drew ok got it you can play cards but cant draw them part 2 Ok so by summoning sickness it indicates that lands cant be used u ntill the next turn in itself as in the creature cant get the mana untill the next turn
Curve is more important if you play seriously though or when you're just starting out. By the end of my MTG playing (it's too expensive for me to keep up with now so I went cold turkey and sold all my cards), I was playing an 80 card green deck focused on landfall (abilities activated by playing a land card), elves, and big beasts/tokens. the elves were used to draw more lands, to the point where I could have 10 by turn 3 in really lucky games, and then just playing the biggest nastiest wurms, behemoths, etc as well as four Howl of the Night Pack (summon one wolf token creature for every land you control), which gets pretty ridiculous when you combine it with Coat of Arms (+1/+1 for each creature you control of the same type, so if you have 10 1/1 wolf tokens they become 11/11). Of course, this was out of tournament play and was more casual "see this bullshit deck I made?" style gameplay, but i think it's important to play the game in different formats if you want to keep it fresh.
yeah, this game's stupidly expensive. I stopped playing after I got into online card games (Eternal is the best card game I've ever played. Some of my friends work with the company that made it, and the game is great - it's ALOT like a modernized MTG made for online play)
I wish if I could get those learner decks but I don’t have it. I am keen to learn the game and I am learning from different different channels, sources. This video helps me a lot..can some one please tell me how to get a free deck for first learners those who wants to learn.
But wait, if you attack your opponent and let’s say your creature attackings power is 4/2 and the opponents blocker is 3/1. Your creature will kill your opponents defender but will it deal 3 damage to your opponent since 1-4=-3 so your creatures power would go through the defender and to your opponenent?
Hey are there any ready to go decks to buy? I've read a little about clash packs, but how do I know they are good and "up to date"? Will I fall behind if I buy older ones?
Valkorn367 there are. You can buy planeswalker decks that are prebuilt 60 card decks that are themed around a single planeswalker. Two of them release with each new set. Also, clash packs have two decks that are meant to play against each other (like duel decks) and are relatively balanced against each other. You won't really fall behind by getting older ones if you are playing casually.
Also, when I was watching Tolarian Community College he was talkiong about something "standard" and about rotations, does that means some cards aren't in use after a while?
I think youtube ate my previous comment :( I was talking about how Tolarian Community College said planeswalker decks are only for new players and only usefull for couple of games, because any player that's not new to this won't buy it, so clash pack is best for me I guess - I might find some friends to try it out, and I will have already prepped deck for them with clash pack.
actually duel masters is created by wotc as well. and is based on mtg. if you read the manga, the duel master kid actually started off by playing mtg. so thats interesting
So, where's that Deck Shuffeling Tutorial?
TheRealDerohneNick ff
It was probably rigged for the demonstration
TheRealDerohneNick with Vigilance you can win the game cant you just keep attacking with it and you can block it untill your next turn attack again and block again im confused sorry
So excited for the upcoming 16 part series on how to shuffle!
I've been playing since the first Innistrad and this has been one of the better tutorials I've seen. It doesn't over load the newer players with rulings and in explains the actual basics of the game. Good job guys, will direct new players to this video for sure.
I have never payed this game but this tutorial was actually really easy to follow. Well done Lou Lou and Angory
Ok so Toms turn was first and i know everything you guys did was on point but why did he draw a mana card if he wasent allowed to on his first turn he drew
Aiden Valentine I saw some other tutorials that were really confusing, and this was a refresher. My friend wants me to learn magic but I’m too lazy
I just want to reply to this bc I really really agree. I’ve been trying to learn on my own and this video answered a lot of questions I couldn’t find answers too. Thank you🙏🏻
I love how often they have to do so many introductions in all of their videos
How to play Magic the Gathering
Turn 1:
Play an island.
Turn 2:
Play a second island
Tap both islands

(If you get into magic get used to hearing that joke)

Kris Valle this is the simplest tutorial ive ever seen... if your new to tabletop/card games you're in for a shock this isnt a quater as difficult to learn as others
Rick Y r/whoosh
this is genuinely very useful for new players
Yeah I've been playing the game since I was 6 (I'm 17 now for reference) and the only reason I watched this was because I enjoy videos with Lewis in them (the guy to the left)
Although I agree, this is a great tutorial :D
R.A. Klein II haha don't mean to brag but I am actually a yognau(gh)t as well!
Syahdiva Moezbar But do you have the balls???
jaynbob42 didn't realize I have to do the full salute xD but yes, yes I do
No it is not! They had to let left guy to finish his turn!
So i'ts like Yugioh for big boys?
exactly
chavier_ or for anyone who cares at all about their life
Yeah. It's also been the most popular card game on the market (beating out even hearthstone in popularity.) since it originally came out.
Well, I take that back, the Star Wars CCG has been more popular than it in the far past (around 1999 and 2000 or was when the SW CCG was more popular)

Chavier_ no no, not like they are functionally different games, would be better compared to Force of Will or Hearthstone, you know. Card games that actually share similarities...
It's 100% Yugioh for big boys.
Or maybe even the Pokemon Card game. The stuff about playing land, etc, reminds me of that.
The best video that is quick and to the point showing examples without just trying to explain cards to me.
Wish I could give two thumbs up. I have watched several videos just to understand how to start a game... this is the best one so far. Thanks fellas and the team who helped produce this.
It's tradition for me to revisit this tutorial every other month because these guys are a delight to watch and teach me some rules of Magic ✨️
ITS TIME TO GET ANGORY
Mike Murderer I think this combo is Angis so use that instead
Mike Murderer I think it's time to get Le WAng!
As someone who has never played Magic and has played a couple of hours on Hearthstone, I am compelled to say that Hearthstone ripped off Magic after watching this simple but quite informative video.

When i was a kid, it was right when you guys did that really old minecraft letsplay. Its awesome to see that you guys are still making videos.
I’m a just starting and this is the best tutorial I’ve seen, thank you very much
I've been playing magic for about 7 years now, but i couldn't resist watching this for the amazing Tom and Lewis Banter
Watching the video even though I've been playing for years. Can't miss quality tips from OG Lewis.
Okay but this is actually really well done. Great job you guys! I was worried the yogscast would make this really confusing but you explained it well!
"There's lots of cards in magic the gathering, lots of them have words on them..."
-Lewis, 2017
If only I had friends to play it with. :) Probably better for my wallet that I don't, though. I'm just waiting for my son to be old enough to play pokemon cards with me, hope I have the money for it by then. :p
ShidaPenns you could go to an LGS or play onlinez
Online.*
Lmao I was thinking the same thing
Thanks guys :) seriously the best Magic introductory video on the web (better than the one on there own site) thank you for taking it slowly and explaining every aspect! You guys rock! x
So I'm just about to get into this game since tons of friends who shut up about it but this actually was a fantastic tutorial to learn! Thanks a ton!
Very informative video. As a total beginner at this game, I found this videos explanation of the game o be very easy to follow and understand.
Thank you sooo much for this😊 My older brother recently got me some cards and arranged a deck for me. He tried to teach me but I didn't really understand. This helped.
This is the best tutorial I’ve seen. Great job.

Finally found a basic tutorial that help me understand how to play. Thank you!
Thank you guys so much! I really appreciate this video! I started Magic a few weeks ago and I was completely clueless. This is by far the best tutorial I have seen! Thank you
can i just say that, tom, i love you deeply
if only all tutorials were this good
So can u attack with your card while his Beatle is turned to the side???
Excellent. Thank you. After a few viewings, I'm actually starting to get it.
This gets me in the mood to play magic again. haven't played in a long while
watching this in late 2018 just to appreciate Big Beard Tom, in all his glory
God I want to see a 16-part series in which Ben explains how to shuffle a deck. It'd be so fcking hilarious
See the Spongebob scene where Spongebob tries to teach Patrick to open a jar
We need more of these! It's actually helped me quite a bit!
Lewis and tom are the new dream team
One of the best tutorials I've ever seen.
Wasn't that hyped for this vid but pleasantly suprised
Watched a few tutorials to learn and this one clicked for me. Well done.
This is a great guide for beginners!
Very nice tutorial. while I've been playing for years I think I'll be showing this tutorial to friends that might be interested.
I really liked the Games Night Magic Tournament. I hope the continue to make some TCG videos
"But Lewis, how do you draw a card?"
Love it! Now, please, make a video on Warhammer. Like you play it or how to play it.
A tutorial from the yogscast?! last time i saw one of those was back in '09
I knew the rules, but I wanted to watch! The final intro was perfect lol
I've been playing magic for 4 years now but still laughed my ass off at this
I have a few questions
What is the maximum number of cards i can have in a hand at any on time ?
How many land can i have on the field ? How many creatures can i have on the field?
you guys took your time. I was expecting an mtg video sooner
Still waiting for the 16 part deck shuffling series. Come on, Ben!
it's 2022 and i'm still waiting for ben's shuffling tutorial
Wow, this is so well done and easy to follow, great job guys!
The Dice Boyz are back! 🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲
confused about the part about blocking while untapped...
Tom Reminds me of Alan Moore. Great tutorial!
don't think enchanting your creature with compulsory rest is going to be much help, lewis!
you guys are awesome but sorry confused on the first bit only 😂 man im bad at understanding technical stuff
Ok so Toms turn was first and i know everything you guys did was on point but why did he draw a mana card if he wasent allowed to on his first turn he drew ok got it you can play cards but cant draw them
part 2
Ok so by summoning sickness it indicates that lands cant be used u ntill the next turn in itself as in the creature cant get the mana untill the next turn
Finally I can watch the other videos and understand what's happening

still waiting for this shuffling series
I wish if I could get those learner decks but I don’t have it.
I am keen to learn the game and I am learning from different different channels, sources.
This video helps me a lot..can some one please tell me how to get a free deck for first learners those who wants to learn.
You Guys going to play Commander at any point?
Best tutorial on this game, thanks for posting!
finally some more mtg. its been teased for soo long now
Someone just called me "lame" so I played the game in front of them and the next day they wanted me to teach them 🙂
ladilia * aye you show them girl 💪
Have you played commander?
But wait, if you attack your opponent and let’s say your creature attackings power is 4/2 and the opponents blocker is 3/1. Your creature will kill your opponents defender but will it deal 3 damage to your opponent since 1-4=-3 so your creatures power would go through the defender and to your opponenent?
This is the best tutorial I have seen thanks!
It's such an awesome game and I've never played it :( want to go and buy some packs
What decks do you get as a noob?
Day 1001 of waiting for the sixteen part series of "How to shuffle a deck" with Ben
Some special effects and some good sounds this series would be fucking awesome.
It was a really good explain thank you so much
What happened to the recent battle videos that were uploaded on here? They just vanished.:\
Hey are there any ready to go decks to buy? I've read a little about clash packs, but how do I know they are good and "up to date"? Will I fall behind if I buy older ones?

Okay, getting spammy - just found out about "Deck Builder's Tollkit's" - those seem amazing 285 cards for the same price of the duel or clash packs!
so we have to play lands untill enough mana to cast a creature spell or artifact
Lewis from the Yogscast!!!
So,when the round is finished all the cards which gives mana should remain on the table until the game is done?
Infamous TNT yes they are permanent
Magic the gathering reminds me alot of Duel Masters cause in that show they do pretty much the same
now to make an introduction for the other formats.
You should have started with Tom yelling "WHAT ARE THE RULES"
This is pretty similar to Duel Masters, which I played many years ago (or like Americans would say: many foot-ounces of moon cycles ago)
I'm American and we say this a lot.
You do know that the correct way to say it is that duel masters is similar to magic because magic came out way before sual masters.
actually duel masters is created by wotc as well. and is based on mtg. if you read the manga, the duel master kid actually started off by playing mtg. so thats interesting
Is this as hard as it looks at higher levels?it seems like people are keeping track of mana and damage and everything else in their head.
Can't you choose to play or draw on first turn?
Physical cards? How do balance patches work?
But what does Pot of Greed do?
wrong game
You guys explained it well the others were confusing
So can I have more than 4 of the same land card?
that... that was beautifully explained
It's happening!
is there a part 2?
can you guys do pack opening like hat films
Good explanation I've never played
When is the next shadow of israphel?
