I'm struck more and more by how rich and various the themes of the rondo finale are. The movement is an inexhaustible cornucopia of musical ideas. One of the best things that Mozart ever created. Ms Uchida's playing is spot on with its rhythmic alertness and pure timbre. An absolute delight to your ear and mind!

The lightness to which she plays the third movement beautifully contrasts her interpretation of the adagio!

Not only that, but the first few bars with the piano sound like a something a beginner would learn in book 1 of their exercises, but it develops into such a complicated movement.

@@_Athanos Florian, try any of the Mozart piano concertos with Murray Perahia at the keyboard. It is good to start with the earlier ones and go chronologically. This way you can trace the development of Mozart from a child composer to a mature genius - while he is still a teenager.

Striking performance by Ms. Uchida. In the beginning of the second movement, I was slightly shocked by the slower tempo compared to what I am used to. However, it seems that this slower tempo uncovers additional dimensions in the movement; that of silence. I claim that a faster interpretation is beautiful on a first hearing. After some time, I think Ms. Uchida's interpretation is much deeper; I fell in love with it.

The second movement I feel is rather unusual for the extent of its harmonic richness and color! For example, right in the opening theme, Mozart inserts a deceptive cadence to A minor (the parallel minor of the relative major) and inserts a Neapolitan Sixth (G-Major First-Inversion), both of which immediately catch the eye with stunning unexpected beauty!

    Good night
Today we will be (with number 23)
    Mozart piano concerto
    Introduced by Dr. Farid Jarrah
Whoever wants culture must learn the art of caring....?
If you are a fan of classical music, you must love this piano concerto. Its duration does not exceed thirty minutes, and it is full of its fun movements, and it is easy to recall some of its melodies after hearing it once or twice.
Mozart composed the Piano Concerto No. 23, or Class 488 for short, in March of 1786 when he was arranging the premiere of The Marriage of Figaro. He hoped to surprise Salzburg fans by coming up with something new and innovative.
Also at this time, he composed two more concertos for piano (Nos. 22 and No. 24). These three works became regularly played in classical music concerts. But Concerto No. 23 became the most popular of these compositions. From now on, Mozart will give a more important role to the wind instruments, which for him have become equivalent to stringed instruments in terms of importance.
Piano Concerto No. 23 written for an orchestra consisting of a flute and a number of clarinets, bassoons and trumpets with some stringed instruments, in addition, of course, to the main instrument, the piano.
The soloing of the orchestral parts and the calm mood of the concerto produce a largely intimate music that the listener might not normally touch except in room music.
This concerto reflects the characteristics of an old master and gives the impression that its composer has seen and heard everything and does not regret anything. At the time, Mozart was an "old man" in his thirties, and he got his income mostly from concerts and not from his new books.
The Piano Concerto 23 consists of three movements: the allegro, the adagio and the allegro esai in the form of a rondo.
The first movement, the "legro", is written in the traditional sonata format. At first the orchestra enters and then gives way to the piano. The key or ladder of the big mi or ei major has a calming effect in the hands of Mozart, and this is evident from the wonderful poeticity evoked by the beginning of the movement.
The second movement, the Adagio, has become a special place in Mozart's body of work. This is almost the only piece he wrote in the small fa, and it is of a meditative mood, and the expressive nature of the wind instruments and the interaction between the orchestra and the pianist reminds more of the simplicity of room music than the grandeur of an orchestral concerto.
Best regards to those with good taste

Dame Uchida has the intense feeling of touch which is remarkably one of the best ways to understand Mozart : in spite of some 'traditionalist' listener's claims, she shows a singular mood in blending the japanese aesthetics of 'iki', with the flush of life of every note of Mozart. Simply awesome, :-)

I think this better than the same concerto from Horowithz. That one somehow seems to me too quik and too noise, but maybe I'm wrong. After all may be this is a better, more modern recording. I like Mr. Horowitz very much - ofcourse!, so don't scorn me harshly.

    • @musikundlyrik9364
      @musikundlyrik9364 8 лет назад

+Roby Keller Not to worry: we won’t scorn you! In my view, Horowitz’s performance with Carlo Maria Giulini, despite its idiosyncrasies, is brighter and livelier in the two outer movements and truly sublime in the second, where the tempo is perfect - and not exaggeratedly slow, as is the case in many performances. I personally prefer it to Uchida’s recording, which is very strong one none the less. Performers - and the French pianist Hélène Grimaud is a striking case in point - tend to pour extra pathos into a movement that is already quite moving. Generally speaking, the most memorable performances of works by Mozart are those that do not treat him with excessive delicateness - as though he were a fragile China doll. Alfred Brendel has written about the misguided temptation to do so.

    • @Bulbophile

do not agree@Lyrik -- apart from parts of mvtII by horowitz, it is tarnished by his perception of what his blood thirsty audience always, and only ever wanted from him... great fingerwork. Uchida's performance is better on all levels.

Adagio is perceived as a kind of absolute, unconditional value, going even beyond the bounds of music, as a kind of a diamond of spirit (you can endlessly practice such praises). Compared with him, the next part already sounds like a regular, ordinary musical piece.

She's playing Mozart's cadenza. Here's the link for the cadenza for this concerto and others: imslp.org/wiki/36_Cadenzas,_K.624/626a_(Mozart,_Wolfgang_Amadeus)

I believe this concerto is a reminiscence of his time in Paris. Regarding the adagio introduction (which should be played as slowly as bearable) Mozart never let his own tears fall on the keyboard, but the orchestra tears your heart out. Herbert Locksley, M.D.

Fred MyOpinion I personally think she does justice to all movements. She's the only pianist I will listen to for Mozart. I don't think anyone else comes close.
