    Thank you for getting this video out (and so quickly!!!)
    I'm not /that/ too familiar with korean politics, so you taking the time to go through a bit of background on the different parties and their members is greatly appreciated. I also love links, so thank you for providing those.
    Yeah,,, besides the many reasons why implementing martial law is generally a bad idea, doing it to avoid your wife's scandals is a CHOICE. I've only read a little bit about the Gwangju uprising, which made me a little familiar with South Korea's history under martial law, but even that made me aware enough to know that Koreans will NOT take a surprise declaration of martial law lightly.
    So glad for everyone this fiasco seems to have been successfully avoided. I hope everything else henceforth works out as good as we can hope for😖

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful! Admittedly it was a lot to try and organize in my own head, so I appreciate how difficult it can be to digest all that once. I'm also glad you enjoyed the links, I'm going to try and make them a staple!
      Tell me about it! I know we've had a lot of 'wife guys' who ended up being cheaters this year and last, but damn, who knew the other extreme was just as bad! Unfortunately, we're not out of the woods yet as the PPP assembly members are refusing to attend the vote, and it's looking like they might not even get 200 votes total (talk less the 200 'FOR' votes necessary for impeachment) - but the Korean people are making their voices heard, the footage of the peaceful protests today have honestly been breathtaking in a weird way.

      @@TheHaniverse I know I mentioned it earlier, but you're seriously amazing for writing the script and researching everything in such a short span of time!! (I keep being reminded of the fact, and going "Damn!" in awe 🤣)
      We got a "wife guy" but at what cost.
      I was hopeful from your video that we still might just get votes against him, alas. I believe they're probably doing this in hopes to avoid having another impeached prime minister on their record, though I feel that if the party did vote in favour it might 'win' some sympathy from the public.
      I know what you mean. I really respect the Korean people for ardently standing against this, but it's weird that we had to get to this point in the first place.

      Thank you 😭😭 That really means a lot because I actually recorded this twice too 😅 I wrote the script during my empty classes at work (and honestly I was reading a lot of the news to understand the finer details myself) and I tried recording this last night but I was just so tired from the week, 2 hours in and I wasn't even half way through the script 🥲 but I woke up today determined to get it out because I wanted to be helpful (and tbh, when will politics every been this interesting again LOL)
      Yeah, the result of an empty vote is really shocking, but the DP have already said they plan to push for another vote in the immediate future, so things still aren't over. 'The next protest' is already trending on Twitter so I'm sure we'll see every crazier numbers soon.

    You guys asked for it and I tried my best to deliver! There was SO much to cover in this video (and it ended up getting demonitized 🥲) but I hope it at least ends up being helpful to you guys!
    The impeachment vote is happening literally right now and the results should be out within the next 6 hours, so I'll update as soon as the information comes out! In the mean time, it would mean the world if you shared this video since it's probably going to get buried by the algorithm 🥲🙏🏾 Also feel free to leave any feedback or thoughts in the comments, as I'm always looking to improve!

      Update (7:20pm KST):
      At present 195 votes have taken place, but most of the PPP members haven't attended the vote at the National Assembly (ie. are refusing to even vote for or against). If they continue to abstain, the vote will automatically close at 00:40am on Sun Dec 8th, as the vote has to be concluded 48 hours after the proposal is officially submitted.
      Also, a slight correction, there were 2 protests today. The protest in front of the National Assembly was for the impeachment of the president, while the protest in Gwanghwamun was against it. The protest in GHM was significantly smaller, but there were still a decent number of people (not sure of exact figures.)

    Thank you so much for this information!! I appreciate how you explain things. 🙏
    But dearest, the audio is difficult to bear. It's too sharp and hurts the ears. You might benefit from having a microphone closer to you (like on your lapel), that may help to make the reverb less conspicuous. I've wanted to play (and re-play) your videos on a speaker in the background while doing errands or cleaning, and I can't, purely because of the audio quality. 🥲

      @TheHaniverse  25 дней назад +1

      Oh wow, thank you for this feedback, I've had one or two comments about the audio recently but I haven't noticed any major problems on my own devices 🤔 I currently use the internal microphone of the camera, but maybe I'll have to invest in an external mic as you suggested ><
      Oh, could you by chance tell me what kind of device you're using? All my devices are windows/android, and I don't use external speakers, so I'm wondering if there may be something there 🤔

      @@TheHaniverse I'm usually on my laptop, (I'ts difficult to bear even through the laptop speakers) but i'll connect to a speaker if I want to listen to something while doing chores. Honestly, I think even just using the headset that comes with your android phone would be an improvement. 👍(I'm also on Android/Windows devices) I don't want you to spend exorbitant amounts on gear.

      Admittedly, I'm very sensitive to sound.
      So it may just be a me thing. But if others have noticed, it might be worth looking into. 💙

    i understand that the presidental vote and the national assembly vote is separate, but how can a minority party be the leader, and the majority the opposition. that's so strange to me. like, wouldn't the DP be the ruling party if they have almost 2/3 numbers?

    • @TheHaniverse
      @TheHaniverse  25 дней назад

      The reason is exactly as you said, because the votes are separate! Yoon was voted in 2022 in a general election and he got the majority of votes, so PPP became the ruling party - 'ruling party' just means the party of the President since technically the prez has the most 'power'.
      Meanwhile, the vote for the current national assembly members was held in 2024, because the president had lost favor, the majority of the votes when to the democratic party to essentially keep him in line. The % of seats is directly equivalent to the % of votes, so because the democratic party had a much higher % of votes, they got more seat over all.
      Presidential terms are 5 years in Korea, and that's a long time to have no additional checks and balances, so by having the national assembly vote at a different time, it encourages the ruling party to try and keep the good faith of the public - unfortunately for Yoon, he failed this time around.
