The tower controller replied , “ Merry Christmas , taxi to parking “. The incident didnt go any further.

Okay. I'm NOT a pilot. But with that said, how in the hell did the pilots of this flight mistaken a taxiway from a runway?!!! First of all, taxiways have a single solid yellow line in the center of them to enable and aid in keeping the aircraft centered during taxi. Secondly, runways are much wider than taxiways, and have white dotted lines as well as a bunch of solid lines together to indicate 1000 feet if I not mistaken? If I as a non-pilot know this, how in the hell did two pilots not notice they were on a taxiway?!!!
Pilots supple vs demand is strained over the last 5 years…would be pilots are choosing different careers. The other day I boarded a 787 and the Captain was entering the cockpit wearing dark glasses and on a motorized electric wheel chair. I also noticed that Garmin has upgraded their avionics sweet to include braille on key instruments
EWR has "full-length" taxiways that are very wide, away from the aprons, and seldom used in the middle of the night. So the the sight picture out of the window would have looked okay, no obstacles and a long "runway." Of course a half dozen items were skipped over in order to not notice they're on a taxi way... Must have be fatigue/sickness AND complacency. No excuse for this. I was in a car on the freeway when I moved to Texas one light (sick from a cold and very tired) and got myself on a road with markings that didn't look familiar due to construction.. I knew my mental state was impaired so pulled over in a safe spot and double-checked where I was to make sure the road was even open and safe and that I wasn't in oncoming traffic. Turns out all was ok, but if I could take a precaution like that (in a car no less) if something didn't feel right, why couldn't these guys..
I travel in and out of EWR frequently and this is quite frightening. Actually we don’t want to think of the potential results of human and/or mechanical error whenever we take a flight.
Instead of saying there was a mechanical issue, the pilot should have said they had to abort the take off due to a technical issue. Technically, they were in the wrong place.
How...??? I mean one can see the blue edge lights of the taxiway. They have a moving map, or could have one. And I think the A330 is also equipped with RAAS, so it should have said "caution, on taxiway!" But it could be that this A330 did not have RAAS...
Where would the defective Boing space capsule fit in? The one that is now declared unfit for passengers who must wait (8) months to come home from their (8) day trip.
At the very least that crew should have been medically examined for impairment before continuing the flight; sheer luck they didn't collide with a taxiing aircraft.
The stresses and strains of aviation in full view. Well done to the air traffic controller.

I did the same thing at Kelly AFB late one dark and stormy night. Controller congratulated me and wished us a good evening.
That is shocking considering that a taxiway and a runway look completely different. It's like this was their first time at a major airport.
Are the lights different on taxi way and runway ? I thought they were.

For future videos, Newark does not have taxiway edge lights.
Is there no system in the modern Aircraft which warns pilots that they are trying to take off from the wrong runway
How in the hell????? OMG. As a fairly frequent long-distance Turkish Air fan, this really worries me!
I agree, I like Turkish a lot...but this gives me pause!
I cannot imagine the extent of the disaster this could have been. What if there was another aircraft on the taxiway? Or a fuel truck?

No moving map in a 330 cockpit, as far as I know. But I flew the 330 a few years ago.
If those pilots can't tell the difference between a taxiway and a runway, they need to find a new profession!
While the brakes cooled down, the pilots changed their skivvies.
