Je l'écoute en boucle. Christine Opolais interprète merveilleusement ce morceau ou plutôt elle le vit. Une très grande émotion, un moment merveilleux. Merci.
Adore Opolais - such a breath of fresh air ! I can't comment o the quality or purity of her voice - but this rendition moves me to tears, she is beautiful, skillful, sounds and looks divine - seems truly emotionally involved in conveying the music - sublime!
Passionné d'opéra ,je dois avoir une douzaine d'enregistrements de grandes mezzo et sopranos différentes et il y a longtemps que je ne n'avais pas eu une telle chair de poule et la gorge serrée . Shall I let this moment of beauty pass without comment? Indeed, I shall not. I have enjoyed many talented sopranos’ interpretation of this wonderful classic by Dvorak, but this performance by Kristine ranks among the top two or three. She is amazing. How is it I have not had the pleasure of her voice until now? I don’t know, but this will not, cannot, be my last.
Her assent to opera diva was hard won and her beauty is just added gift to those of us who love music. And I would love to hear her sing next to a male opera star in any composer's work of song.
I am touched by her clear soprano that sings the outpouring of the heart of the Spirit of Water in love . My mother was listening to this song with tears in her eyes
I don't understand such harsh comments here. She has a wonderful voice, she is perfectly in the character, her diction is great, overall she gives the aria everything it needs. People compare her with Flemming, who hasn't done as good job with Rusalka as Opolais is doing here. Contrary to Flemming, Opolais lives the music and projects all the emotions the water nymph is going through in this piece. For me she could easily be compared to Beňačková, who set an international bar with this aria in the late 1980's. Well done, Kristine!
Kristine O is one of the best Rusalka singers. She really knows how to express the meaning of the song. One can feel being same emotional state with her by looking at her gestures and facial expression. She is very sensual looking, too.
Funny, I listened to her performance exactly one year ago. After listening to many who sang "Rusalka" in the past, tonight I have decided Kristine Opolais to be the best for this song. Absolutely marvelous.
Ak vie Kristina takto zaspievat v reci českej, co je pre ňu cudzia reč, lepsie, ako Cešky, tak Vam poviem...je užasna a genialna...ma užasnu energiu.....milovanie s nou musi stat za to......................
Why can't people simply enjoy this stunning performer, voice and looks, and stop criticizing? I guess doGreatartistsgrowontrees? can sing Mimi standing on his head at very short notice...
I always wonder the same. I guess she is too beautiful for some people's standards, but to be honest with you, she is one of the most gifted living women these days.
I heard this beautiful love song by Dvorak for the first time sung by Patricia Janekova, then only 13. After searching youtube versions by several sopranos, thus far only Patricia and Kristine Opalais produce the proper separation of notes in the triplets that make the song so delightful. I love the way these two equally beautiful sopranos don't slide through those passages!
But there is big difference. Patricia is Slovak by origin and living in Czechia, so there is not problem with pronauncion in Czech. Kristine is another case and there belongs big respect for her.
Besides the clearer pronunciation of all singers I checked on RUclips, is also the best "andamento" for this aria, in my opinion. She does not run, or drag the andamento. Brava! I became a fan immediately!
Every singer is a unique experience. Kristine is an extremely passionate singer. She is at the same time very straight forwtard in her phrasing. She hardly ever drops the end of the phrases. That is something that Renée does in a very studied way. She sings in a way that is secure for the conductor too. She can take more chances than she does here and use less voice and more shading. But this is a wonderful singer and a beautiful woman. I could imagine listening to her for a lifetime. Can't you?
I was really impressed she did Madame Butterfly at the Met. She has a beautiful lyrics spinto voice. The fact that she is a beautiful woman should not even be an issue. Sincerely Arnold Bourbon Amaral
Fabulous --- a powerful voice packed with emotion, and very attractive!! -- I will be going to see her at Covent Garden in June in Manon Lescaut playing opposite my favorite Tenor Jonas Kaufmann --- can't wait to see them!!
I think for the Czech purists Urbanova,Subrtova and Souckova are the sopranos of choice due to ethnicity.I wonder if they shun the Slovak sopranos like Benackova &Orgonasova.Czechs or slovaks let me know. For the rest or us,this Latvian girl here is sensational!!! She just bowled me over with passion & intention in her performance.Just going back to listen again, all the best,John from Australia
This is not the type of singing that this art form demands!! This is pop singing!!! Anyone who likes this has not listened to truly great singing. Please take the time and treat yourself to some of the greats like Moffo, Caballe, Callas, Sutherland, Sayao, Norman, Price...or there are so many...please...listen to more that just this!!!
Wonderful voice, she's got a timbre of personality, with metal, beautiful vibrato, all under excellent control. I especially like how she uses the richness of her voice to the advantage of the slight variations and nuances of the song. She's certainly a singer of great promise and will enjoy a great career, I hope so (for the sake of the Opera fan world). Her undeniable beauty won't be a problem, at least for those who don't have envy problems with beautiful and talented divas.

Interesting! Thanks for the response. My heritage is actually Slovak in part (on my paternal grandfather's side, so that's where my last name, Hanisko, comes from). I'm a singer and I know the frustration of trying to sound as native as possible; I haven't even attempted Czech. I'm attempting to learn how to sing in Russian, and that's enough of a challenge ...
For Czechs and Slovaks not needed to learn the language of each other. (And much better then learn Russian from lessons is to find any Russian friend :) )

She is very beautiful. Pronunciation in Czech is OK. But I am not sure regarding the intonation. Either the mic is incorrectly placed, and acoustic is bad, or the intonation is not correct. I voted for "like". An overall feeling is good.
Natalia, as there is also a famous opera called Rusalka by Russian composer Dargomyzhsky, I think you could be forgiven your Russian reference. Furthermore, Kristine clearly has a problem with the pronunciation of sibilants. However, she certainly is a very passionate singer and really delivers this aria with conviction even if it's not my favourite interpretation.
Gautama2009, I'm curious to know on what authority you have based your comment about Kristine's Czech pronunciation (''one of the best in the opera world''!)
I empathize with those who point out poor pronunciation - it should be as true as possible and maybe best sung by a native tongue. However, the beauty is in the music and the poetic sound of the words. Foe example, most people can listen to opera in a language they don't understand and still love it. Take the Magic Flute as an example - some may consider the libretto is dated and trite but it is still a masterpiece.
what do you mean best sung by a native tongue??? shold she change her tongue for a Czech one to sing this? I just want to point out that that doesn´t make any type of sense, by any stretch
Been playing this version by Kristine for 15 years. It gets better with each time of playing. Thank you Kristine.
