As a trans person, I appreciate you correcting yourself on Acht's pronouns and not making assumptions on Cipher's when you first saw it Cipher uses it/its btw, so does Order/Smollusk
fun fact!!! one of pearls' idle things while outside the tower is her going to sit near marina. there are 3 spots she can sit at :) just be patient! tip: if she sleeps, retry
I had a very similar reaction to seeing Iso Padre too, to be completely honest! I'm sad we can't talk to him, but he seems to be doing great all the same. (It's adorable that he has a little Octarian plushie with him - there's a claw machine by the (infuriatingly occupied) Squid Beatz game full of little Octarian plushies, perhaps a nod to Octo Expansion & how the Square seems to have been where all the Octolings started to show up on the surface.) I wonder if there were plans to have him run the "gear ordering" business, but perhaps they realized it would have been bad to associate such a "suspicious" practice with a normally super-wholesome character. The Smollusk refights are a little stale, but the numerical puns for every rematch + being able to whale on him with creative builds is at least pretty fun. Plus, hearing him try to sound scary with that cutesy-talk is just hilarious. His Palette Notes are also a neat little device for them to include some deeper secrets on various characters, which, while brief, still really does stir the theorycrafting pot a good bit. Sets up the stage for potential future developments... at least, I hope so. (Maybe then we'll finally get our Glen Fiddler moment...) And as you said, I'm equally interested in how they're actually handling the ramifications of the whole Octarian "mass exodus" happening. From the secret notes on Octavio, it sounds like even the big guy himself is struggling in regards to this, instead flying his latest Octobot King around in hopes of getting away from all the uncertainty and unrest. While I wish we got just a *little* more insight into it all, your recent video essay put it best: Splatoon delights in telling its stories from a limited, character-based perspective. Of course we don't know what's fully happening - Eight was one of the first Octarians to leave, and they seem to not want to look back... ... One last little secret detail, then, that I love: if you revisit Shelly, they'll remark on how their sibling was sent to manage a "new location". Since the animation for having the pair read out the weapon descriptions was Shelly reciting them from memory (while Donny looked on in admiration), if you ask Donny to do the same, they'll actually pull out a book (visibly written by Sheldon) and read from it, since they're not quite as capable of pronouncing words as their twin is. Adorable!!
Yeah, Side Order does a great job of tying up loose ends while also introducing a lot of really interesting ideas to the lore, but I think it would have been nice to see some of it actually be realized within the campaign itself. I'm especially surprised we didn't really get a conclusive answer about the identity of the Octarian engineers considering... Marina already knows who they are. But like you mentioned, the new insights into existing characters are very nice. And I didn't know about that detail with Shelly! I'll have to go check that out
I loved your reaction to Iso padre being freed I had a similar reaction hahah! Alsooo you probably already know but if you're afk long enough, Pearl will transform back into her original form!
Double checking pronouns and holding yourself to using the correct ones is a good habit to form and enforce, and fictional characters are a way to practice with minimal harm if your tongue slips
"Pearl, don't drool over my diaries, I'm right here!"
Marina.
We are in public.
I mean _technically..._

12:45 I love how you added the correct pronouns as if a fictional character would be offended 😂
