I was there the night this was recorded. A young trumpet player from Northern Ontario blown away by Maynard. That night started my love of screaming horns and of course Maynard.
This tempo is so far above the original recording. I guess that's what cocaine, wine, and boredom will do for you. killer band though. I miss these days of going to see a big band like this that was "on the road". It will never happen again.
Maynard is good, but the only thing I want to criticize is the way he holds the trumpet. All your fingers are suppose to be in top of the third valve slide, well not all if the fingers because your thumb goes on the first valve slide. Where to put you left fingers on the trumpet (index to pinky): Index - on top of ring Middle - in the ring Ring and pinky - in front of the ring
+caleb clark let me know when holding a trumpet the "correct" way improves your playing and when it gives you talent like his. How you hold doesn't matter. What comes out and what you can do with the instrument is all that anyone cares about.
History of Jazz: all of the above

what a drummer man!
Peter Erskine!!
PETER ERSKINE on DRUMS !! wow !!
An INSANE tempo. Holy smokes.
Erskine is off the chain ...love his body of work .
What a good dude . Always communicates with intent .
This is what I love about big band charts. Even though the song can be the same, it can also be different every time

Were they late for a bus or something?
New title: Give it Mach One.
she don't lie, she don't lie, she don't liiiiiiieeeee ........ Cocaine.
AWESOME ...
It was fast yes, but it didn't suck. It turned out excellent
Way FAST And Way BadASS Great!! Its like when I sit by two P-51'S Firing up with all of there guns Blazing!! Maynard and the Guys were always Great!
holy crap!
RIP Mike Migliore on soprano.
those players kicked such butt O M G
This chart separates the men from the boys..
Fast yes but jazz is about expressing what you feel, so he felt like he wanted to take it fast, and btw Maynard doesn't exactly play everything clean
Btw Maynard is awesome, so shush.
I didn't say he wasn't
Can you post the whole concert, if you have it?
This is good but it lacks energy. Perhaps a faster tempo would help.
r u joking lmao
Mike Migliore died May 13, 2019 of Cancer. Age 64

+caleb clark Thanks for the lesson. No one cares.
Dude he's Maynard though
Dude. Stop.
Why the sped up tempo ?
Sounds like they took the original song and played it in cut time... geez
lol calm down child.
Oh my god the hair is so bad
fellow musicians take notice here that faster is NOT ALWAYS better. this sounds like shit really.
I don't mind live recordings, but this is awful. It is way too fast. Ruined an otherwise great chart.
