I was a tactical air control man better know as the One Four Man in 1968/1969 Vietnam, Alpha Company, 1st Bn, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. I worked with an OV-10 pilot every time my company came in contact with the NVA. The pilot's call sign was Bulldozer Xray. He flew out of the Quang Tri airbase. I met him once when I was in our rear headquarters which was right across the street from the airbase and took photos of him standing next to his OV-10a. When I first arrived in VN in 1968 we used the O-1 for reconnaissance but by summer of 68 we moved to the mountains in the area below the DMZ known as Mutter's Ridge. The OV-10 flew for me many, many times as we encountered the NVA quite often up on Mutter's Ridge.
Hi Nigel...I am only one person, but want you to know how much I enjoy your build-alongs. I find I am learning a lot and really do appreciate your effort. Thank you so much...Judy in Nova Scotia, Canada
Nice review, especially since it was due to a viewer request from some chap admiring the stash behind you. I don't have this one, but have a few Kitty Hawk kits in various stages of assembly. They will ask more of you than you expected, but from the online reviews I've seen, the Bronco looks stunning once completed. There is great satisfaction that comes after a little extra work, and a bit of head scratching.
Nice review Nigel. I built the Testors 1/48 scale many years ago and that kit was a dog to put together. I just ordered the Kitty Hawk 1/32 scale kit from Amazon an the entire PE after market sets from Eduard, parts, jx185, 32830, 32850, 32851 and 32051. The Kitty Hawk kit from Amazon was $99.99 USD and the Eduardo after market parts totaled $61.56 USD. Looking forward to building this one in the near future after I get my 1/24 Airfix Typhoon done. Thanks for review, it doesn’t look too bad to build but will see when it arrives.
Nige Excellent review. On the LSP forum, this kit was started by a number of members and except for one, all the others became self queens, as best as I can remember; quite a few years back. Peter
Wow . thanks very much for the review Nigel , much appreciated . I see lots of good points in the kit and very few bad , compared to the old 1/48 testors kit it's amazing . I think some scratch building of some finer cockpit details and some wiring , she'd be awesome all opened up . hmmm its made me want one more ...
Nice looking kit nigel, love these vietnam war era aircraft also as i say,I have one of the Tamiya douglas skyraider versions in 1/48 scale, would be totally awesome in 1/32 like this Bronco eh,have you ever seen a movie called Rescue Dawn with Christian Bale about Dieter Dengler who was shot down & taken captive by the VC in 1966 flying a skyraider, great film, cheers
Yesssss. Nice curious kit. I just saw the 1/24 scale Hellcat. I got a thing over 60's aircraft. I am doing Viet Nam aircraft right now as a matter of fact.
Interesting kit. One of my favourite planes, but as you say, looks a piglet to build. I think the grey Florida based examples worked in conjunction with the US Coastguard on drug-running duties but could be wrong about that. Obviously they were cheaper to operate than helos
Nigel, what's your general opinion on kitty hawk kits? I like a few of their subjects but I have seen a lot of reviews where the reviewer pretty much screws up his nose with just the mention of Ktty Hawk. Bad fit and lots of gaps ?
I think their earlier kits were very problematic because of all the separate parts to make a fuselage, whereas most kits have a pair of halves, KH would build the fuselage from many parts. Having said that, I've never built one, only seen other builds. Take a look at phil Flory's reviews to get a better picture. I want to build the Kitty Hawk UH 60 but cant afford it right now.
How can a kit designed & manufactured after 2010 fail so utterly with the wing attachment engineering? Elon Musk says "The best part is NO part." Sometimes, no part is just no part.

Thanks for the review Nigel, have been very tempted by this kit for a while. It's nice to see what it looks like.
This looks a good model to make plenty of painting options thanks Nigel 👍🏻

One of my dad's favourites, together with the Skyraider....

Sustain the good work and delivering in the group!
Looks like an interesting build. After trying to install the typhoon pe I’m wondering if I should just build 1/24 or 1/32?

Sorry my last post missed the correct build. I post the question on the Hellcat build

Hello Nigel, You said you may upgrade the seat belts for this build. Is there currently anyone offering an up grade set?

I would love to see you build a Academy 1/35th heli, they look really good, not sure if expensive?
Just a comment

Very expensive kit. I'd expect something of that quality to be £25-30.
I think this kit is £60 plus
