    切っ先を切断する方法もあるのですね。皮鉄を引っ張るようにつくるということですね。
    無監査刀匠の多くはケラを割って重ねる段階(積み沸かし)で芯鉄と皮鉄を分けて、最後に皮鉄で包み込むように重ねて素延べにはいりますね。

    This seems a much different process compared to what you see in other docs with the traditional sword smiths. There seems much less folding of the steel, and it didn't look like a soft core was wrapped in the harder high carbon steel. Could be victims of editing. Still an interesting process.

    I’m not a blacksmith but to me the raw metal seems very hard even when cherry red. This metal does not change significantly even when approaching the thickness of the sword. Mild steel moves when this hot, mild steel it is not!

    • @lsubslimed
      @lsubslimed 5 лет назад +1

      Stephen Miller - They're careful not to forge too hot in order to avoid a lot of scale and decarb as well as to keep a fine grain structure. Sure it takes longer to forge, but overall it's better for the steel.

    Did he cut the tip with a chop saw? That’s awesome! I cut my tips but that’s because it’s easier, I’m sure he could have easily forged a tip. I like how he cut it and then rolled it to the other edge.

    • @mrkiky
      @mrkiky 2 года назад

      Old af comment but I'm gonna leave this here anyway: Traditionally they would hot cut the tip with a chisel and bend it the other way. Since the sword was made of high carbon steel on one side and low carbon steel on the other side, cutting it and bending it back ensures that the high carbon side follows the curve of the tip right up to the point. Maybe it would not be necessary in this case as it seems the sword is monosteel. I definitely prefer cutting my stock at an angle all the time if I have to cut it anyway. Much easier to form the tip from an angle than from a flat end.
