    The British Army had Carl Gustav Recoilive Rifle in the 1960s /70a and 80s.

      Yes hence reintroducing means bringing it back

      It’s probably because we gave those in storage along with javelin and nlaw to Ukraine

    You beaut! It's been years since I last fired a "Charlie Gutsache" as we called it in the OZ Army Reserve. A real blast from the past, but it is really a fantastic weapon.

    Unfortunately ,due to defence cuts training involves shouldering,aiming and shouting really loudly "Bang". With the service rifle you are allowed to shout "bang bang bang"

    Used this in the 80’s, loved firing it. Only downside was I was the second heaviest in the section my number 2 was heavier. Hope they’ve made it lighter than it used to be.

      They have a light weight version that gets down to around 15 pounds (using a thin steel insert with a synthetic wrap for the barrel). They don't last as long so the full steel version (42-45 pounds depending on the set up) are still around. Personally I'd say, no matter how expensive the lighter version is, it will be a lot cheaper replacing them every few years than the medical pensions for the troops getting injured from carrying the heavier ones.

    Never thought I would ever see this item in front line service still as well but yes crazy good effective probably far better now still prefer the AT4 as an entry level disposable also from Sweden. Mortar systems absolutely critical to as well some as small as 60mm yes absolutely as no way would I fire this without mortar fire being put to work first😊

    56? How long will they last in any future war? I have said it before and will say it again we need to take our defence seriously before it’s too late. Cut foreign aid and use the money for our own defence.

    • @garagenigel
      @garagenigel 2 месяца назад

      😂😂 we spend more than France and deliver less than half of what they can! Tory mismanagement has caused this! Our Army is currently in the region of 68k strong with 10% downgraded! This wasn't the case 14 years ago! If foreign aid was cut it just helps Russia!

    • @tonyjedioftheforest1364
      @tonyjedioftheforest1364 2 месяца назад

      @@garagenigel I disagree with the foreign aid comment how would it help Russia? Don’t forget that we are still sending aid to China and India, two countries that don’t need it. As for the majority of the others the aid we send allows them to use their own money for arms, wars and suppression of their own people. How much actually makes it through to feeding their own people rather than going to war lords? Also some of these poor countries have massive families so why should we be feeding them? If they can’t feed their children they should not be having them. China brought in family size restrictions and are now thriving. We need to look after ourselves first and foremost.

    • @garagenigel
      @garagenigel 2 месяца назад

      @@tonyjedioftheforest1364 you haven't really got a grasp of what foreign aid is and what it is for! Foreign aid is mostly spent on buying influence in countries that could potentially be a threat to the UK! So basically if we don't bribe them to be our friends! Russia,Iran, Korea, china and Pakistan will! That's a fact!

    So, after all the years since the 1970's we are back where we started. Lighter, improved, better ammunition types. BUT hang-on we are dealing with the MOD! TPTP, Sub cal and HEAT as the only ammunition available? Let's face it the UK MOD has NEVER and I mean NEVER got their procurement right. Don't believe me, want to whinge? Just look at the current rifle, possibly the worst battle implement ever devised. (Unlike the Garand!) I don't care what you say about the upgrades it is absolutely shite compared to every other rifle in the world. In fact the only way it is better than an SKS is its magazine size....
