Masterpiece of the greatest genius of the music of all time! Harpsichord Concerto nr. 1 in D minor BWV 1052: Hyper-Masterpiece of J.S. Bach!! BWV 1052 it's something exciting and upsetting that makes the heart and mind tremble... made of artistic embroidery of fantasy, soul and poetry! Great also Karl Richter, true legend of classical music!
This is a wonderful performance. Some other performers play the opening allegro movement so fast that it sounds as if they are almost trying to get it over with. This gorgeous music is meant to be savored, not rushed through. Of all the magnificent, incomparable music that Bach ever wrote, this concerto is the greatest of all.
Totally agree with you . It is horrible listen this "concerto" so fast as the puritans does. SOME PEOPLE STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND THA BACH IS MUCH MODERN THAN IS HIS EPOCH, and even more . there will be more TRANSMAGNIFICATION OF BACH'MUSIC IN THE XXI CENTURY, as it already had in xx century.
In the original score by J.S.Bach the first mov. has no indication of tempo. You can see it on " Bach Digital", the digital archive of Leipzig Library. Everytime I have to study something new by Bach first I check on this site.
I do like Jean Rondeau version. It is faster but great. I would love to know how Bach was in person. His music is so moving to me. This one of my favorite tracks.
Same. Karl's way of playing may sound too slow for me actually, but he sounds devoted and skillful which is the thing I like about how he plays. At least it's not on a piano though, it's too rounded and it sounds wrong.
Why Richter had a só big head? Because his great spirit, plent of knowledge and Love, and because his cranium was like a big radio station, broadcasting BB to the world(BB means Bach and Beautiful)!
¡Oooohhh!...
As a Gould fan I wanted to see how Richter would compare. Now I am convinced Gould got some inspiration from Richter's playing. No limp, overpedaled Bach, but strong, muscular Bach. The same impulsive forward moving Bach which I love.
The harpsichord was/is a mechanical lute. Quills pluck the strings. If an orchestral score contains a piano part, it is placed with the percussion instruments since hammers striking the strings produce its sounds. The pedals on a piano, permitting duration of the struck sound were a 19th century innovation facilitating the development of melody in itself, a focus in particular of the Romantic Era composers on keyboard.
Love Richter. I suppose he was THE authority in the world of the great Bach! He just left this world waaay too early. Many of Bach's interpreters of today are appalling .
What do you think about Christopher Hogwood? because I found Hogwood's interpretations more "beautifully precised" in the case of Bach. Of course this is a very nice work from Richter. His works with Handel are pure perfection.
Karl Richter is the absolute reference point for Bach (and Haendel), he played and directed ALL Bach, vocal, orchestral, for organ, harpsichord.. He was a Kantor, like Bach, he had for teachers the legendary G. Ramin and K.Straube in Leipzig. He is on another planet compared with many of today so called Bach specialists. Hogwood is one of the most mediocre interpreters, in my opinion, as all the English, who CANNOT understand Bach nor classical music.
how do we meet again? ah another Richter video... can you stand anyone other on bach keyboards than Richter? Who the closest qualitywise to Richter in your opinion? BTW. sorry for the argument I started on the goldberg variatons video, but man you are overkill.
Bach: ‘drag’? Never! He leads you like a piper playing sweet music! We follow, willingly, to where he shows us his musical vistas, revealed to us, like a hidden mystery, in all their harmonic splendour!
Damn, why drive around in an oxcart when there are cars available??? The chain/ pedal pushbike spelled game over for the one wheel cycle. Same goes for the cembalo. The piano GOT INVENTED for a reason.
great, but you take a keyboard instrument from the Baroque and put it with full modern strings with full vibrato and long legatos. The strings should adopt to the keyboard.
Notice that Richter was one of the pioneers in Historically Informed Performance of baroque music. This recording is probably from the 50's. It is such a great deal that it was played in a harpsichord as opposed to the mainstream piano.
The opening Allegro is great. It's beautiful. With that said, Richter completely loses the tempo and slows waaaay down starting at the big "run" starting at 6:43. Tempo resumes after the run finishes and Im wondering what's that about? Its still a great performance, but maybe he can't play fast. Not that it really matters, I still enjoyed it, but maybe thats why they choose that tempo?
Richter's playing was slower in general - many of his organ recordings are way more relaxed than those of his contemporaries. He certainly could play fast, and the orchestra certainly wouldn't let itself be conducted by some musically inept nobody. German organists always seemed to be the most professional, so I would say it's a conscious interpretation choice.
such an outdated approach to baroque music, stiff, too slow, no elegance. Fortunately, there are far better performances nowadays... this belongs in the museum archive. Not worth watching
@@Longago2012the actual nonsense is to play Bach's music like Brahms or Schumann. The historical approach gave new and deep knowledge about the ancient music. In my opinion, Richter offers a disputable reading of Bach.

J.S. Bach Harpsichord Concerto in D minor BWV 1052
1. Allegro 0:00 - 7:45
2. Adagio 7:50 - 14:37
3. Allegro 14:39 - 23:16
Thank you
Little did I know Piano didn't exist yet during the baroque era. But Bach's first harpsicord concerto is elegant, vibrant.
Bach actually developed the idea of a modern piano tuning - his WTC is its "technical instruction"

Of all the different versions I have heard of Bach's harpsichord concertos, like this or BWV 1065 and 1063, Karl Richter's is still my favourite.
And mine too.

Fantastic performance
Chaque note est à sa place ... Magnifique
Karl Richter was the number one clavicembalo interpreter of Bach. (and organ, and orchestra)- A point of reference-
@David Smith Thanks for your comment. I am also puzzled by the lack of appreciation shown towards Karl Richter.
He held Bach’s same position in Leipzig after all.

You're right, the young interpreters of Bach today are horrendous.
Karl Richter was THE interpreter of Bach. Very few musicians knew how to interpret Bach!!

an amazing rendition, love the slower speed

1% of this covers all metal.
No. Metal is a rubbish noise that can never be compared to this magic we are listening to now.

Smukt........
A spinet you would not hear. Clavicembalo!
Sadly the harpichord is quiet, but I also like that somehow!
The strings should have rawhide strings.

this mixtape is fire!
I love this, magic to me. Are some notes missing around 1:10-1:11?
Sounds more like a tempus mistake
The last movement is often played too fast, but it's perfect here.
I just started the theme from 2 movement of this concert and did not know what is it called. I made my own variations on this theme
14:39 allegro
Very good except harpsichord is too quiet relative to the strings. Martin Galling's recording is more balanced IMO
Agreed, it almost sounds like a basso continuo instead of an actual soloist.

And to think I once disliked harpsicord. What a moron I was. "What's that, dear?" Okay, still am.

playing this piece on a modern piano should be punishable by death
Excelent interpretation, but a bad harpsichord. The sound is thin and unnatural.

Very outdated performance. Poor Richter, he did not have the faintest idea concerning style and dynamic contrast necessary for music in Bach's time.
...i think, he made many people very happy with his interpretations of bachs music...🙂🍀💫...
