This was helpfu, research that I mostly knew. But, because I need a 4E size or an extra wide shoe, to find this in a good hiking shoe has been a big ask. I swear by my cresta hikers i know they are heavy but when I was on the AT for a couple months in winter and early spring my feet were completely dry, no blisters, no hot spots, while others feet were mangled hamburger, blister ridden, etc etc. Definitely I had leg and foot fatigue but did recovery with my muscle roller. I also have Oboz Bridger. I love them but they rub in certain spots, ugh ugh so I thought about using the cresta hikers for the cold wet snowy months on the AT but then come late spring swith to my Asics gel venture 9s?? I dont know, I cant find a good ultralight hiker shoe with all those items you mentioned in a 4E size Keen is the only one maybe keen targhee ll or llls but I felt there was not enough cushioning nor a rockplate. Any suggestions? Maybe merrel moabs?thank you for listening.

Definitely harder to find a good trail runner in that width. I see both New Balance and Inov8 have trail running shoes in that width. The Merrel Moab Ventilators look pretty solid too. In the past I've swapped out the insoles on a couple running shoes to sorbathane insoles. These were helpful to add a little more cushioning if needed. Good luck!

@@cascadiahiking here is the thing, when I was on the AT in winter and early spring I wore my ll bean gore tex cresta hikers... my feet were never wet, never cold, never a single blister while most of the hikers I met and hiked with who were trail runners, or a hiking shoe, their feet were hamburger, covered in blisters, soaking wet.... so I may stick with my boots and deal with the leg fatigue. Why cant somebody make a light gore tex hiking shoe or boot that is waterproof, insulated, has decent cushioning and tread, the only shoe that comes close, is that Oboz Bridger, I have a pair, but the fit rubs in certain areas. For me, if the wheels go bad, your not going anywhere. So I may just stick to my Crestas. However, I may try those merrel moabs. Any other suggestions would be great. I love your channel, i have learned alot. Keep the practical backpacking info coming.
