3 good villains (technically 6 if you count all the bears individually). All with unique personalities and goals. All of them done so well there are debates on who the better antagonist is.
yeah disney would fucked up the panic attack with some boring joke but he just dropped his head on puss belly and damn death is cool not much screen time but when he is in it he steals the show
I find it interesting. In recent years, everyone wanted more representation on all ends. They wanted a villain who had a motive to be evil. They'd say they want a more relatable protagonist. Puss In Boots The Last Wish is no doubt the best movie in dreamworks. The best part is in the movie they made epic fight scenes, and they even had no fear to mention the death of some enemies in the movie, guess this is the first Dreamworks' movie for older audience
They know how to grow up with their original audience, and touch issues that would relate to them as well as some newer and younger audiences such as; fear of death, panic attacks, as well as the pressure and understanding of being adopted (Goldie). They're able touch on those serious points, all the way keeping that hand out and interest from the younger and new audiences.

DreamWorks just made the best animated movie in years, no cringe non-stop jokes and woke garbage, just an actual good story that balance seriousness and comedy while also delivering a beautiful message of value to all of us, and characters that we all can relate to. Pure art! Thank you, DreamWorks!
And gave us one of the best antagonist in animated history. Honestly in general. I want to say villain because Death is more like he's doing his job but he's taking the situation with Puss more personal. I don't want to say more to that but if anyone hasn't seen the movie but he's badass and and just the movie is great. Go see it if you haven't.
@@martinvr12 Can't remember much of Shrek so I can said anything there but most likely he's better in this movie. I know you have because you wouldn't have said it's one of the best animated movie in years lol. It was in case someone comes across that comment.
I remember watching that movie and seeing the scene in the bar where he and puss first meet each other and my first thought was „ah now a lame Charakter which gives him a wish or something“ two minutes later and I had goosebumps and truly felt the terror which the main character had gone through. 10/10 movie for real
Everyone simped for Death but Perrito is literally the embodiment of goodness where everyone is wrong in the world. He's the exact reason someone like Death can exist. Dog was abused and used like he was nothing & still survived everything. His trauma is what made everyone else realize they didn't have it all bad. That's some fucking epic writing from Dreamworks.
Exactly. If you notice properly you can see that everytime death confronts puss, it's always just after or before pla conversation with perrito. Both death and perrito was like two sides of a bridge for puss. And puss was standing right in the middle the entire time
Honestly, Dreamworks has done some of the best animation movies, Pus in Boots 2 just brought it back to the glory days. I mean, I can’t be the only one that remembers Prince of Egypt, Sinbad, El Dorado, most of the Shrek movies, Rise of the Guardians, How to Train Your Dragon, and more.
DreamWorks company is 100% better because they made really nice movies like "Shrek","MegaMind" and "Puss in boots:the last wish" And they also made the best heroes and the best Villains :D
We see how Puss is terrified by death by avoiding it. Then he decided to finally accept the fact he have to fight for his only life. Great humility lesson.
Not only that, but the obnoxious comedy character STOPPED and helped, instead of cracking a joke to break the tension, and that entire scene took several minutes to go from dead serious to slowly becoming comical again. Disney wouldn't have even portrayed the panic attack correctly nowadays.
Dreamworks is kinda like Don Bluth now. Most especially that similar to what he did, they are following Old Disney's formula of balancing light and dark moments as long as there is a happy ending.
Everyone talks about Death, but Jack was a really good villain, too. No troubled childhood bs, no "misunderstood baddie". Just a straight up unapologetic piece of crap since birth
Disney: "Ah, we can afford to be lazy for a while, I mean, we own most of our competition, and who cares about animation anyway." Dreamworks: "WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE CREATIVE STUUU-DI-OOO!"
This is an especially interesting time. When Disney was going through a slump in the 80s, a film director named Don Bluth came through and started pushing out really amazing movies Disney only wished they could do at the time. History is repeating itself. Disney is going through yet another slump after having a good record in the 2010s (at least in terms of animated movies). And this time, Dreamworks is coming through and making incredible movies that are putting Disney to shame.
In fairness, Don Bluth *leaving* Disney and founding his own studio was probably a big part of why they slumped in the 80s. This time it’s 100% Disney’s fault.
Although, that slump was with good movies. They were just outside of what the general populace expected. Now they’re slumping because they’re making trash movies.
I love some of the Disney movies from the 2010’s era like Frozen, Wreck it Ralph, Zootopia, and many others, but seeing what they’ve become just makes me sick inside. I’m glad Dreamworks is rising back on top again. Not because I don’t like Disney as of now, but it’s just simply because Dreamworks is making masterpieces like Puss in Boots 2.
Frozen and zootopia still had disney's problems with "twist villains", both felt so forced especially after most of their act before being revealed was practically good
Yeah, DreamWorks is definitely consistent with pushing out entertaining, action packed movies that are absolute gems. The Bad Guys is an absolute treasure! I look forward to seeing what new movies DW has in store for us. I still gotta see Puss in Boots 2.
one thing i love about The Last Wish is that puss in boots was perceived as the perfect hero, at least to me. seeing him vulnerable and fearful in this film really added a level of depth to his character.
They just went and dropped a movie that discusses things like accepting mortality and panic attacks while keeping it easily digestible for kids AND still meaningful to adults. AGAIN!
He's honestly my favorite protag from Dreamworks. He's relatable, charming, admirable, fun, and his whole growth arc, over all, is so well done and believable!
Puss in Boots The Last Wish is legit the best animated film i've seen in a very long time. It was damn near perfect and that is VERY RARE in today's world. Then again, Dreamworks rarely misses because they make movies for US. But Disney and Pixar as of late have been making movies for their employees and not for their consumers.
It's like if you make a movie that appeals to everyone and not a super niche audience, everyone will come see it and turn it into a big hit! Pretty crazy, right?
The main problem with Disney is that there is not so much fantasy anymore. Too many characters trying to relate to "real world problems" (yet most of these problems are about social justice of whatever woke crap there is). Puss in Boots is a fairy tale, but still can relate to actual real word problems (panic attacks, how worth ones life is, death).
for me the biggest shock watching Puss in Boots 2 was the fact that they put blood in the movie, even if just a little bit, but it was epic to see the fight between Puss and Death. dreamworks wins in the business of good movies.🍷🗿
@@Santi-vr6rm the worse it that even their good movies they don't use the dark atmosphere of the characters and they only made stereotyped character for a kids movie( not wanting to offend) Venom:the party guy Eddie:the responsible guy Cassidy:the bad guy with mental issues

For a while now, I've been worried that Disney might acquire DreamWorks and mess it up like they did with Lucasfilm or Pixar. However, to my knowledge, Disney is not allowed to make any more purchases after acquiring 20th Century Fox. If they were to do so, they would hold an absolute monopoly position.
the company was founded in direct opposition to the direction Disney was going executives-wise (as well as with film production) by Jeffery Katzenberg, a former Disney employee who bitterly resented that Roy and Eisner were preventing him from being second-in-command. So I'm pretty sure a lot of the Dreamworks culture is very anti-Disney and a lot of the people who work for Dreamworks will actively oppose any measure taken by Disney to acquire them.
@@hobomike6935 -- Indeed, Shrek is sometimes referred to informally as Katzenberg's Revenge as a long shot at the House of Mouse. If Disney had acquired Dreamworks instead of Universal, one of the brands would not have survived.
_they have_ sony put out the new standard for animated comic-book superhero style movies DreamWorks put out the new standard for the more traditional semi-realistic yet stylized painterly fairytale style and here's Disney and Pixar with their hyper realistic movies that practically haven't changed visually since a decade ago :D (SERIOUSLY, WALL-E AND TURNING RED PRACTICALLY LOOK THE SAME)

"You are no bounty hunter You are death. And i don't mean Metamorphically or Rhetorically or Poetically or theoretically or any other fancy way. I'm DEATH STRAIGHT UP." This still gives me the Chills
Disney’s strategy is to repeatedly churn out mediocre movies that do just enough at the box office, thus making them a profit. Dreamworks’ strategy is to take the time, releasing fewer but higher quality movies that push the boundaries of animation, thus making them a profit.
You forgot about The Bad Guys in the Dreamworks category. The people in it looked similar to the ones in Turning Red, but the fights and chases were animated sooo good and it gives off a great Ocean’s 11 vibe
Bad Guys had gr8 animation (all ripped [and rightly so!] from Lupin II btw!) but the voice and dialogue were sub-par, and the plot was mediocre at best. But animation? yea.. just fresh as could be.
The thing is the humans aren't even the focus in the Bad Guys, we're looking at the anthro animals, like, 90% of the time so even then it's not a criticism.
@@jasonbernard5468 I agree the dialogue doesn't always land but I wouldn't say the voice acting was by any means bad; everyone spoke clearly, delivered the lines with energy and were each distinct and varied, if rather hammy but I wouldn't expect much else for a children's film. As for the plot: well, I agree it wasn't anything too imaginative but to facilitate the animation it does its job. And besides, it's not a boring plot, what more could you ask for?
Bad Guys pulled off the "bean mouth characters with bouncy animation" trope WAY better than Turning Red did. Matter of fact, DreamWorks managed to take that trope and rejuvenate it to make it their own unique, fun style. You know what I'm talking about?
DreamWorks actually showed the REAL panic attack in kids movie, the first one if I remember correctly, and done it so well that you get shivers from it

Now DREAMWORKS, is having beautiful animation works, I don't doubt that... DreamWorks will surpass Disney (PS: I hope Mario teaches a lesson too ;) ) From: Brazilian, me ^^
After puss in boots, Mario is gonna have a hard time to compete, but they are only competing for the first place, whoever loses is still gonna be the second best animation film of the year
It’s safe to say that The Bad Guys is an underrated classic in 2022. That movie had heists, heart, and somehow the best plot twist villains of all time.
Yesterday I looked "bad guys" and honestly the cartoon is like that. At the beginning, it’s still catchy, but after the announcement in the news about them in the cartoon, after the robbery, I realized who the governor is, what the plot will be based on. Honestly, all their unpredictable moments are complete garbage. Everything is absolutely predictable there, this is a pure caricature cartoon, so if they would stick to the beginning, they would fully reveal the bad guys, maybe the cartoon would have shot, and at the box office, it scored almost half as much as Puss in Boots 2. And one more thing: in "bad guys", the same nasty animation with faces as in turning red. Just a shame, but the benefit of people's faces are not so common. What individual came up with such a disgusting animation, I just do not understand. Cartoon unfortunately at one time. also this work reminded me of its origin Jumanji: call of the jungle. I then went to the cinema to see him and predicted almost 90% of the actions of the heroes. Now this one will go there, then he will say this, then they will kiss, in short, a pure linear film without seemingly open freedom and the possibility of unpredictability. Same bottom.
I thought the plot was a little bit predictable. That's not necessarily a bad thing though. A simple plot can work if executed correctly, and I think The Bad Guys definitely executed it correctly. It's been _way_ too long since I've seen a movie with the confidence to actually be a cartoon and The Bad Guys felt like such a breath of fresh air.

Which is tbh the CORRECT WAY to make an "All-Ages" Movie.

The whole movie I was concentrated on the screen, I didn’t even notice how deeply I got involved into the action and the story. This movie made me actually think and ask questions.

It’s safe to say that The Bad Guys is an underrated classic in 2022. That movie had heists, heart, and somehow the best plot twist villains of all time.
i believe that movie is even better than puss n boots
Fun Fact: Pierre Perifel (The director of The Bad Guys) made the VFX team change their entire way of animating just for this
If I'm being honest...I completely forgot Disney *didn't* own DreamWorks and passed on the movie believing it was just gonna be another shitty, trend filled, soulless project.
