yep it will be one of the escort ships for my carrack. load it with all ballistics with a easy re-arm in the hangar should sting the opposition. and the limited ammo would not be a problem with the hangar so close.
So I bought the Drake cutter when it first came out and there are other ships that I like but Drake it definitely my favorite so I just got the buccaneer today and I’m happy with my decision I can do box missions with my cutter and combat missions with the buccaneer I’m glad it was able to be bought today (:
This is awesome, as always, but one little side note: Rattlers are cluster missiles that split into 8 smaller after launch. Most ships dispense only 6 IR flares per burst, meaning that at least 2/8 of the Rattler's mini-missiles are guaranteed to hit even with countermeasures deployed. Lock and fire 2 Rattlers at a time, and you can reliably put 4k damage on target regardless of anything your opponent might try to stop it. They also have the fastest lock time of all size 2 missiles. Still, cross section missiles are better at this time, and tbh I don't think they'll ever have countermeasures in a direct sense. Cross section missiles IRL are essentially TV/camera guided missiles that lock onto a ship's physical image. The "countermeasure" for this - at least for automated models, as many TV guided missiles are pilot-controlled - would be to turn the ship at an odd angle while the missiles are still a long ways away, so that the camera or software on the missile fails to recognize the target and thus loses lock. I have no idea precisely how SC is going to implement this, but I suspect it will boil down to CS missiles being unavoidable, BUT having a drastically decreased lock distance IF the target is turned towards, away from, or aside the missile. I.e. to get a good CS lock at long range, the target will have to be "on its belly" so to speak. For now I'm sticking with Rattlers on everything. They deal SOME damage even when countered, and they have a bonus feature against players: they absolutely blind anyone they hit for a couple seconds as the missile plumes from 8 missiles blanket the screen in lense flares. It's like summoning a star in front f them for about 2 seconds.
Austin M yeah for quite a few fighters it’s hard to outrun missiles and shake them off, for the rattlers when the cutlass still had them and before 3.0 you could unleash all of your rattlers and it would crash your opponent’s game.
@@darkest_eclipse8271 LMAO that's one way to win a fight... Considering... I wonder how quickly a 600i can fire it's missile payload. Yes it defaults to size 3 missiles, but can be fitted with anything from size 2 to 5. Since rattlers are size 2 and as per the post above split into 8... And fitted with size 2 racks the 600i can carry 32 missiles, you could potentially saturate a target with... 256 micro-missiles that is somehow has to evade... That's... a lot to keep track of. XD
Your reaction to the size 4 on top caught me off-guard in a good way, definitely got a good laugh out of it. I had the same reaction after ignoring this ship to the point of forgetting it existed, until it came with my pirate cat that is and now it's my favorite little fighter. Great review as always and love the channel!

That was a badass, straight to the point review of this sky coffin. The ship though? It’s,,,. I was destroying everyone in this ship. Until I went toe to toe with a not terrible pilot in a Cutty black with the shotgun. Two shots. Seriously two shots and boom you’re dead. So keep your distance right? Not so easy when you have a decent opponent that just hammers away at you. It suddenly feels like it’s sole purpose is to hide, do some damage if you’re lucky enough not to die on the way, and run like a chicken. Melted it and got a Cutty black with the shotgun.
Thanks Subliminal. I like that you are showing what you recommend for loadouts, it's hard to find info like that on a game that is constantly changing and I'm new to the combat aspect.
My first video of yours. Subbed. A really enjoy your style. Good coverage of hard details without getting boring. The extensive visuals are a definite plus.
I'm very, VERY fond of the Drake Aesthetic and design. Their ships they belief aren't meant to be pretty (to each their own, I think they're fantastic looking), they're meant for the supposed 'working class' who want to get from Point A, to Point B, and get the job done on an affordable budget. Drake designs remind me of ships like the Serenity (Firefly), and the Millennium Falcon since it looked like patchwork. I made the dive and pledged for a Cutlass Black when it went on sale during the last Free Fly event, and I don't regret it. I LOVE the Cutty Black, it's a fairly well rounded ship that can do a little bit of everything (almost). While the Buccaneer is more single minded in purpose, I test flied it during the Free Fly event and I LOVED how the ship handled! It's surprisingly agile and is hard to hit! It's a VERY fast fighter with ALOT of firepower! This to me is an 'underdog' fighter! Don't underestimate it because it has paper thin armor and no ejection (something all Drake ships have as a quirk). In the right hands, this in my opinion can be a top performer! But to each their own, and well put in your video Subliminal!
I have really enjoyed the Buccaneer doing NPC bounty missions; however, the last 3 days I have been getting hit and all of my fuel dumps out, like I have a ruptured tank. This causes my power to shut off of course, and then I die. This is only a recent occurrence for me and it has not happened previously in over 2 months of using the ship, and it happens EVERY mission with 3 or more NPCs. Good review.
Got one of these bad boys as a loaner with my Pirate Cat. A welcome surprise. I still prefer the designer's original concept, in which the Buck looked beefier, had the massive gun underneath, and more missiles. I do enjoy that he explicitly mentioned the A10 in the Buck's design, for the massive engines, but the big ol' BRRRT cannon reminds me of the A10 as well. Also, she reminds me of the Moldy Crow and Raven's Claw from Jedi Knight and Jedi Outcast, which is a plus. Fitting the Carrie is a sweet, unexpected bonus.
This video is the best for ship comparisons. Well done. This is one of my fav ships but I really do hope they do return the spinal mount for it in the future since I adored having 2 sized 3 gimbaled guns instead of the one size 4 gun.
I've had some great fun in my Buccaneer, except when the engines get blown off and I'm left dead in space. After upgrades, the ship was hitting hard and sounded awesome.
I feel the need to add that, currently, the Anvil Arrow has 4180 hull hitpoints with only one size 1 shield. On the other hand, the Buccaneer has a mere 120 fewer hull hitpoints (4060hp) while having two size 1 shield generators. The Buccaneer also has a much higher DPS than the Arrow, so apart from the lack of an ejection seat, the Buccaneer is a much better fighter than the Arrow which makes it the best fighter to go into the Carrack, in my opinion. (Yes, I am also aware that the Arrow doesn't fit with its wings folded up, but later on, we should be able to extend the landing gear without folding the wings up.)
Something to note for those of you not well informed about star citizen the term hull HP right now is temporary. Right now every ship has a health bar if that hits zero ship explodes. In the future it will change to a but more realistic terms like you could take out both engines of this ship but the pilot could still be ok. Unlikely though this is a drake ship lol. This is the type of ship that should be used with several others take the Kruger merlin for example by it self it is a little fly on your windshield but get maybe 10 or more of those and it becomes very dangerous. Power in numbers. Take that into account when thinking about buying ships.
Control is for Anvil. Making big turns is for Aegis. If you want to A C C E L E R A T E and only change direction after a nose turn (or in atmo, not at all) - then the Buccaneer is for you!
@Subliminal is it worth providing updates on these ships that was done over a year ago since CIG updated the weapons/components stats? or is CIG going to alter the figures again at some point? thanks for the content
sub@subliminal.gg/loadouts for my most up-to-date loadouts. They are just going to change things again so no need to spend a week to updating a video guide.
Great Video. Another Con *'d add to the BUcc is that, as Deadly as it is (being aGLass Cannon), not having an ejection seat will be a BIG deal when Perma-death is a thing. Right now, it isn't, so its something that can be ignored, but not so when perma-death is a thing. Paper thin hulls and no ejection. NO, (I fyou fly Fixed, you Can fix a Revenant on the 325A or Avengers.
I do love my Buc (or 'Bucky' as I call her), but the hull HP is a massive let down, as you'd think this would be robust enough to challenge the Anvil Hornet. However, this is the Floyd Patterson of the dedicated fighters, packs a wallop, but has a glass jaw. Nice content SubliminaL, you gained a sub ;)
Great review! I miss the Bucc's default twin S2 top turret that got replaced in 3.4 - I hope it comes back or makes it to shops (the AI uses it now still). That would be pretty mean with autogimbal... Thanks for the video!
I like the the idea of Drake being ramshackle look in concept. Though I don’t really like the implementation of most of it. The exceptions are the Buccaneer (I like the shape) abdthe Cutty Blue.
Great review. I was on the fence with this ship. Your review convinced to to pick it up today. I’m not a big pvp dude or general combat person but I just want a relatively inexpensive ship to go out and fight with. This seems like it will do the job.
You and Seerthe6th are probably my favourite reviewers. Would you please consider doing a review/comparison of all stealth fighters in the game? I think currently there's the Sabre, Sabre Raven, and Ghost Hornet. I'm not sure if the Razor EX is in-game yet.
Sure, I found that reviewing categories ie. Light Fighters, stealth, cargo. In waves saves overall production time when making vids. However isnt stealth broken in the game? Yeah my boi @Seerthe6th does make good content.
man all the good dps ships always have a caviat, the f8 cant be bought, the hurricaine needs a turret gunner, and this one wich i thought was so powerfull has the same loadout as an avenger with just 2 size 1 guns added, it was so hyped up that i expected the top gun to be a size 5, size 4 is nothing that spectacular
I've got one as a loaner right now, one thing I've been noticing is the engines tend to overheat a lot. Might try that power plant you mention though and see if that helps.
@@SubliminaLstv just tried it with your recommended setup, can't go through a full direction change still without overheating... Damn shame too because I like the idea and love the styling of the bucc.it's just not great though.
The bombers have a unique gameplay experience that I need to be familiar with before I would feel comfortable reviewing it. I could review it but it will be with little experience actually flying the ship. Isnt stealth broken right now?
My thoughts: Seems like the Bucc is meant to do well when attacking as a group but not so much when solo; unfortunately the price and marketing doesn't reflect this. For solo use I would only consider it because supposedly it fits inside a Carrack if parked diagonally, making it one of the more formidable ships you could put aboard. If CIG reduces the price then I think it'd be more prominent.
I'd really apprechiate the name of the track that's being played throughout this video. I checked the description and looked throught the composers videos and soundcloud but couldn't find it... Great videos btw, straight to the point and just very well done overall.
For those who are unaware, the Buccaneer has a huge shield hole right at the cockpit in the front. It also has holes by the fuel tanks. This means you will die very quickly if you fly at someone head on, and even a size 1 missile is likely to destroy your fuel tank leaving you dead in the water. These problems have been around for a long time with no fix in sight. I enjoy flying my Buccaneer loaner sometimes, but I wouldn’t actually buy one to own at this time.
My nickname for it is the 'bucket' I have one with LTI and one as a loaner. I love how they fly and how vicious the DPS on it is. Having two allows me to experiment with various loadouts for it. It's held together by spot welding, bubblegum, and wishful thinking. There are several major flaws that I have with the ship that might have not been highlighted here, but may have been brought up in the comments, which leads me to believe the ship is horribly neglected or deliberately gimped. 1. The interior glass of the cockpit obstructs visibility dependent on the angle you are flying at. If the star is behind you, or reflecting off the interior, it hampers visibility in such a way it's difficult to actually see anything. 2. It previously had the ability to mount a 2xs2 turret slaved to the pilot on top, which would have put it very high up there in the current meta with 4xS2 autogimbal weapons 3. The wingtips, as pointed out by other users, cannot use S1 gimbals unlike other ships. 4. The stock coolers cannot sustain the stock loadout's firepower, which is why they're very important to upgrade first. You can get the ultra flow at Levski. This ship was mean as hell before the new flight model.
Being as small as it is...counter-attack craft for cargo haulers and explorers? A little extra surprise punch to use against cocky would-be assailants. Does it fit in a catarpillar? Pocket carrier...
I apologize for my ignorance, the upgrades are forever? Or they are like was before, after a period of time you must rebuy them? I didn't play this game for more than 3 years, and I remember I did some upgrades on my Buccaneer (3 years ago), and now I see they are available for only 21 hours. PS: very nice video and very informative.
I was thinking of adding ballistic scatter guns on my wing tips my buccaneer . its set up so i can hit you at long range , medium and close range both guns and missiles are set up this way ,,, i use boom and zoom tactics with it .
I know it's not the same class of ship but the buccaneer screams Y wing from star wars Played with a gladius last wipe and now I'm taking different approach this wipe, looking to get the buccaneer instead of the gladius this time to see how I like the play style
I don't like doing reviews on ships that don't have its purpose in the game yet. I wouldn't recommend not to buy it right now. Once we can apprehend players and or AI I will do a review run of all of the bounty ships. I hope that happens this year I look forward to reviewing it. I wouldn't recommend using it right now as a fighter because it looses its wings and guns pretty easily in a fight just my opinion.
I'd love to see your thoughts on the eclipse and or the retaliator (Size 9 shooters) with info on the cost to use a torpedo. They look like great PvP bounty hunters?!? Thanks for this review.
I’d love this ship if the guns were on the main body, close to the middle. There is plenty of room there and I don’t understan why Star Citizen likes to place weapons so far away from each other with terrible convergence. Fixed weapons will be PITA with these ships. I mean you could install them with an angle so their focus could meet in an effective distance but there is so much room for these weapons on the main body already. Ditch the wings, strap the engines onto the main body, put the guns around just behind the cockpit and it will be a killing machine.
Bucc is a good ship. Hard to hit in a dogfight so that more than makes up for hull capacity. Take less damage in a bucc with semi good flying vs a hornet that moves like a tank and ultimately loses the fight quicker due to this. Prob the strongest fighter that can fit in a Carrack
I may consider the 325A vs Arrow. However I'm writing my review of the arrow right now... and its not looking good after the nerf. I don't even think the 2 ships should be compared anymore. They nerfed the arrow hard. A 325a vs Gladius is a better fight.
@@SubliminaLstv probably true. Too bad the old 325 isn't a thing anymore. With 1315 top speed, it squashed both the Arrow and Gladius. However, since it costs less than the Arrow, and has bed and cargo. It would be fun to put those two ships side by side for arrow fans to read em and weep
i got a buccaneer for free with my purchase of the pirate catterpillar, not sure why but it kinda just showed up after i bought and i've been enjoying it since.
@@SubliminaLstv Glass cannon maybe. I've really enjoyed it as a two-man ship, where the gunner actually has something to do. most ships I either need 4-6 friends to man the turrets, or the turret is a couple of size 2's that annoy the enemy, more than actually does damage.
I think the issue most people have is that it's not very good if you have one pilot. Whereas the hornet can be great with one or two pilots. I've just never heard anything good about it. Is it available for sale?
@@SubliminaLstv I bought it with aUEC (1.2M?) in Area 18. Flying were the gunner has the dominate weapons changes the dynamic. I just need to keep the target above me, and my gunner will destroy it, I have a couple of shotguns in front in case I get a few lucky shots. Using your complementary shield combo, (palisade/mirage) really helps keep me flying! Honestly I feel no one is giving the ship a fair shake, mostly because it NEEDS a second player. You can see that even like for like, the hurricane's four S3s can drop a lot more damage more consistently than a gimbaled super hornet. Plus points for the fact that both players actually have fun in a hurricane.
Using ingame money is less of a risk I thought you were spending real money. If you always have a buddy I'm sure it's great! I'll need to try it out for myself.

With this review being 2 years old now, what would you recommend as a good fighter ship from this ship to others.
Not really get an arrow, gladius, defender, or sentinel.
Awesome review man!!! keep it up 😉
(Just few hrs ago i bought the Gladius will work for Buccaneer 2)
Ty!
I haven't flown this ship yet, but the main reason I would be interested in it is because it fits in the Carrack.
That is a big plus!
Thanks for the effort you put into these videos. The quality and information is top notch, and really helps when ship shopping. (edit...and upgrading)
My pleasure!
Please do Aegis Sabre next! Loving these reviews!
I have a plan to get one. It's going to take a few weeks though. I need to CCU my prospector up to one from the grey market.
The bombers have a unique gameplay experience that I need to be familiar with before I would feel comfortable reviewing it. I could review it but it will be with little experience actually flying the ship. Isnt stealth broken right now?
Best damn review of the Buc ever. 100% spot on. Well done sir, Bravo !!
Thank you!
A most excellent summary. Thank you.
Ty! Watching
Loving the new videos and frequency! Can you do the Tali next? With torps working now it seems in quite a good spot.
I've got to buy it first. For sure if it becomes a subscriber ship though.
Yes indeed the ship is weak but on the right hands I have seen it outperforms some really good gladius dogfighters
Really nice review. I'm glad you made it!!!
Thank you!
On point! Fantastic overview!
Ty!
The link for the Loadout seems broken for me. The first time I clicked it worked, but after that it brings me to a new ship every time.
Always with the amazing reviews, keep it up bro!
You didnt even fucking watch it before you commented.
Thank you!
Lol
Great video, did you think about doing connie Andromeda buyer guide or re-doing a cutty black?
I've been think about both of those coming soon.
@@SubliminaLstv Sounds good ;- )
I'd really apprechiate the name of the track that's being played throughout this video. I checked the description and looked throught the composers videos and soundcloud but couldn't find it...
Great videos btw, straight to the point and just very well done overall.
Did you consider to use the FR-66 instead of Palisade?
Glass cannons are fine if you can tank the enemies dps elsewhere, I love this ship...
In case anyone is wondering, the shield holes are fixed now.
My nickname for it is the 'bucket'
I have one with LTI and one as a loaner.
2. It previously had the ability to mount a 2xs2 turret slaved to the pilot on top, which would have put it very high up there in the current meta with 4xS2 autogimbal weapons
3. The wingtips, as pointed out by other users, cannot use S1 gimbals unlike other ships.
4. The stock coolers cannot sustain the stock loadout's firepower, which is why they're very important to upgrade first. You can get the ultra flow at Levski.
This ship was mean as hell before the new flight model.
what happend to its default duel size 2s on a turret? i didnt want a stupid fixed gun in the middle....
Erkul is the best app for SC!
Agreed!
Not gonna lie, the dude at 2:10 doing the finger quotes thing as you said buccaneer was pretty hilarious.
Great review. Thanks!
I would love it if you review the Anvil Hawk.
Maybe after we get the bounty system in. That's ship isnt in a good place right now.
Can you do a minimalist canvas print of the super Hornet? Love my hornet... great content subliminal! Keep it coming!
Your content is superb. Just had to subscribe! ps. could you make one out of Aegis Retaliator Bomber?
Thank you! I will eventually but dont know when.
Being as small as it is...counter-attack craft for cargo haulers and explorers? A little extra surprise punch to use against cocky would-be assailants.
Does it fit in a catarpillar? Pocket carrier...
I doubt it would fit but I'm someone has tried it.
This game attracts the best content creators. great review!
Glad you enjoy it!
I know it's not the same class of ship but the buccaneer screams Y wing from star wars
Played with a gladius last wipe and now I'm taking different approach this wipe, looking to get the buccaneer instead of the gladius this time to see how I like the play style
Can you do the hawk next? I would love more info on it in your style.
That would make a good "Ship Battle"
nice video. do the anvli hawk pls !
When the ship gets destroyed i loose everything ? like those upgrades ?
Love these. Can you please do the hornet base and ghost review? I didn’t see it in your video list so if it is can you link the vids? Thanks man
Not coming soon but not too long either.
Im testing buccanier in current expo, but its ammo count is like 200, 220, in the size 1 and size 4 ballistic guns. What's going on?
Great video! Can you do the Anvil Arrow next!
Just because you asked!
@@SubliminaLstv ohhhhhhhh yus!
Awesome production.
yo subliminal are you able to do a 3.13 update on your dps plz. also thanks for the awesome load outs in the past bro
Are you asking me to update this video? That's not possible.
Great work, thanks !
Ty!
Just got a Buc, thinking of a fast stealth build.
Great video. Can you do one on the F7C Hornet (non-super version)? Thanks
For sure not sure how soon though but its coming.
Like I said, In the right hands I can he deadly, and I dont have those hands.
Next video: 325A vs Arrow.
Something to mention about the Buccaneer: its the most powerful fighter that fits in the Carrack.
Oh I see that's a good point.
Really liked you video thanks man.
size 4 on top hrm no need to apologize
hello @SubliminaL is there any chance you could update this loadout to the actual Meta, and working with the new version of Erkul ? tyvm !
The changes made to #thedpscalculator broke my links I'm slowly making new builds with new meta. Check the channel discord for updates.
i got a buccaneer for free with my purchase of the pirate catterpillar, not sure why but it kinda just showed up after i bought and i've been enjoying it since.
CEO of Drake here! Hello pirates! What are you all looking for in a Pirate fighter?
what about the review of Vanguard Harbinger and Sentinel? :)
Sorry I need to get my hands on them again before I can review them.
@@SubliminaLstv I can borrow you my Harbinger for review if you want
I just want to know one thing. Does it kill bad guys fast. (looks at the 5 guns.) Yes. i'll take one.
is this loadout still useful for 3.13?
Its a paper Demon! But can fit in Carrack- combo wombo
I didn't know that!
Please review the Hurricane next!
The hurricane is a poop ship lol!
