- The finale of The Big Picnic, the terrfic 1994 stage production in Govan which transferred to BBC2. This is in memory of my great uncle, Tom Hunting, who always smiled, loved rabbiting with his shotgun, but never spoke to me about what he went through in the First World War. Arranged by John Tams - who used it in The Ship and then again in WarHorse, and sung by the magnificent Rod Patterson

Had the absolute pleasure to see this live; one of the best ever, thrilling and heartwarming productions I have seen; The BBC should re-play it EVERY November
How beautiful and moving

Hmmm 🤔🤔😢😢
this wonderful song that should be our daily anthem has been turned into a burial song, is even very hard to hear it in our churches today. please God help your church
It's so inspiring and intriguing. It's the ONLY song that would put you back on seat and feet, to reflect how you've spent your life, what you do with your life on daily basis, and how the DAY of reckoning will be after you've gone. "For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told...So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom" (Psalm 90)
Magnificent I wish I had seen the live performance I wish it could be repeated immensely moving
That was beautiful Brian Thanks very much Love Kay
Venue was Hartland & Wolff engine shed in Govan. Glasgow Herald drama critic didn't think much of it. The audience, a standing ovation. Not easy to get in Glasgow. Simon Callow got one at Citizens Theatre for his one man show Dickens.
A “critic” is a man who creates nothing and thereby feels qualified to judge the work of creative men. There is logic in this; he is unbiased - he hates all creative, people equally.

Brilliant how could anyone forget li
Lives lost and mourning familys
The Big Picnic, it was in the old fruit market in Glasgow. It was years ago, great plays then, the ship at the Tramway was great as well.
The Big Picnic and The Ship were staged at Harland & Wolff Engine Govan. :)
The Big Picnic was not in the Old Fruit Market. It was performed in Harland and Wolff engine shed in 1994 as was The Ship in 1990.
soul inspiring
Lots of good actors here. I think I saw Juliet Cadzow in the front row.
Wow !
WarHorse
Hi John! Could you possibly upload "The youngest ancient mariner" as well? I used to live in Scotland and would watch that clip every day but it seems like it has been removed from RUclips!
God I would enjoy watching the whole production. Must have been Sebastian Graham-Jones last. Any ideas on getting the whole production? BBC2 is not helpful so far.
nnewton@promenadeproductions.com......contact this address....DVD's of the original production are available for about £13.....
