Such a lovely young woman. So humble but her strength is readily seen!! I pray my daughters grow up to handle things and have future outlooks as you do. I've lost so many people in my life to Cancer. I'm an MRI Technologist AND people like you always made me check myself. You're a beautiful and valuable INSPIRATION❤😢

Your comment about needing patience really touched me. I am on immunotherapy-no where near as intense as your chemo-for stage 2c melanoma. I am a very active 55 year old previous pediatric nurse and giving myself grace and keeping patience with both myself and my husband has been difficult. Much love to you, your family and your medical team.

Jess, As a mom of three adult children. I can definitely say your parents wouldn’t of wanted to be anywhere else then by your side. My kids are my world and can call me day or night and I’m always there for them. I’m also excited for the book club. I was a reader my whole life. But kinda lost interest lately. So your book suggestions will be really helpful. I’m so glad your starting to feel better.😊

Same. I have three adult daughters and I would certainly be no where else but right there with them. Like when they were little and sick with a fever I wouldn’t leave their side or sleep til I knew the fever went down regardless if were the middle of the night. Sometimes sleeping next to them in case they needed me.

You are badass!!! You’re so young and wise, and STRONG 💪. The fact that you felt empathy and sympathy for your parents’ journey to help you, shows what a kind, well-raised person you are. Trauma and hard times really do make us stronger…that invincible feeling, proud of you for earning it! But so sorry you had to go through such pain to do so.

Jess, you are truly inspirational. What you have gone through, no young woman of your age should have to go through. You’re just five-ish weeks older than my daughter (she turns 21 this coming Saturday) and it just makes you more aware of the gravity of your illness in someone so young. Your parents would have swapped with you in a heartbeat if it meant that you didn’t have to go through all that. Keep being you, Niki 🧡

  • @txurbanbunny

Our cancer stories are similar. Mine was caught early also and I too had preventative chemo. Your journey was way more arduous than mine. The worst side effects was one of the drugs would make my throat close up if I ate or drank anything colder than body temp. I had a few episodes and they were terrifying. I also had to skip a treatment, I also had to discontinue one of the drugs towards the end of my schedule. Thankfully it was the one with the throat closing issue. It was causing my neck and face to become numb.
Watching your journey made me appreciate how lucky I actually was. Mentally it really was a challenge and to this day, almost 7 years down the line I still have PTSD issues. Shortly after my diagnosis and surgery, we were hit by a Category 4 hurricane and my home flooded. I still had to continue my chemo treatments all while having to deal with FEMA, builders, lack of supplies, and trying to repair my home. I guess it helped me put one foot in front of the other and kept me from getting bogged down in my illness.
Now 7 years later, life goes on….I still get yearly scans and visits with my oncologist. The scan fear is still very real….I don’t think it ever goes away. Just take care of your mental health as well as your physical health. The PTSD is very real. I amazing it will be worse for you because your treatment was so much more harsh than mine. I hope that when you reach your 7 year remission, you will have put all this behind you and will be living life to the fullest. Bless you Jess for taking us on your journey and giving a face to cancer. It can be beaten, and you will get past this. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Thanks for the great commentary about your experience, Jess. ❤ Indeed, patience, along with grace and compassion for yourself and those around you are critical while getting through the gauntlet of cancer diagnosis and treatment. I'm far enough done with my own cancer treatment that I'm regaining some capabilities and confidence with myself, especially around some of the permanent changes that came along with surgery and radiation treatment. I've found that also acknowledging that grieving permanent losses is part of recovery has helped me process within my own headspace as well.
Hugs to you and your family, Jess! 💞And anyone else who has endured or is stepping through a medical/mental challenge. 💞

I am a mother of girls about your age, and a fairly recent follower of both you and your mom. I can tell you that I have followed your cancer journey from the beginning, and my heart has gone out to both of you. I know that when my kids have hard times /crises /illness, etc., there is nothing harder for a mom. Their worst days are my worst days, and I want NOTHING more than to make everything better. To think of how scary and sad this time has been for both of you, to see you now at the other end of treatment, and to see your strength after going through something so hard, is such a big deal. Blessings and prayers are still coming your way as you all heal and recover from illness and trauma :) xo

Hey I had the same treatment but a different journey! I was 22 when I got diagnosed and finished it in November 2021, doing just fine! I discovered it with the only symptom - my period being just a little late - decided to do a pregnancy test which came back positive because of cancer.. based on a follow up ultrasound my doctor thought it was an ectopic pregnancy and they did an urgent surgery - then the surgery results confirmed it was a mixed germ cell type of cancer... I had my 2nd surgery shortly with my right ovary removed and a part of omentum, then I finished off with 3 rounds of chemo.. recovery is the toughest and most beautiful experience I've had - I never felt so alive and healthy and strong no matter the circumstances! What helped me the most is working out, walking, chores (moving a lot), taking care of my diet and visiting other non-cancer related specialists due to self care... even if you're not based in Europe, you're welcome to join Youth Cancer Europe discord community and seek the support, it helps a lot and people are sooooo so so nice and out of this world... hang in there sister 💞

I agree Jess, frustration is so hard to deal with. My husband was so strong and kept so much to himself. He was a real foodie and the loss of taste was so frustrating for him especially as I kept whipping up new dishes in the hope he could taste it and bless him he never complained or got cross with me. Positive state of mind is so necessary to get through chemo for everyone involved. You are so strong and wise beyond your years. You have nothing to apologise for. 🥰

Thank you!!! I do not know anyone who has had cancer. Letting me be a fly on the wall during your experience and seeing things from your moms point of view was reassuring for me. When we see the number of cases that there are I feel like the hammer is going to fall on me or someone I love. I can now look at your experience and see it is hard but people do it every day and get through it. Best wishes for you and your family and friends who were so important and there for you.

I do realize we did not see the ugly of the ugly, but I do realize she did not want us to see that. On parents side they let us see some of the worry. Really enjoyed your answers to the questions some of us fans asked you. What I got totally out of this video truthfully, is that you were, and are totally OVER Cancer for now! And if for some reason, it comes back, you are a STRONG and YOU will win again!!! Your Mom was so worried for you and even had tears at times, and your Dad stayed steadfast with you AND your Mom. I was happy some of your friends were able to come and see you and bring you up to what was happening, or shall I say....Gossip!! Please take care and enjoy, what you can, being at home for awhile. Maybe...you could even stay over at Jacks' house for a couple of days, depending on his schedule. Always thinking of you in prayer and may God continue to bless you on your journey of life.

I was surprised at how my outlook on life and at life changed. I don't sweat the small stuff and everything is small stuff. That was a gift that cancer gave me. I live apologetically me!!

So interesting to hear your perspective, Jess. Keeping you all in my prayers as part of my family! Can’t wait for the book club. Loved Love Theoretically. She was a new author for me and I’m now reading The Love Hypothesis. Look forward to your recommendations.
