    Hello Peter,
    We should all use our local shops as much as possible.
    Nice Christmas present, Dapol 59, great model with minimum of problems.
    Class 66, also a lovely loco, looking better with driver.
    Nice video all round,

    Hi Peter. Hope you are well. Lovely 59 loco and excellent sound. I’ve ordered one in EWS livery dcc ready. I’m goings to use the new Hornby Bluetooth sound chip when they are available. Going HM7000 dcc. It looks like great value.
    See you soon I hope 👍

    Hopefully, the people who have been repainted are happy with their uniforms. I trust it was not to painful for them, having their caps removed, and it did not cause any frontal lobe damage. It is nice to see you down in the shed again, and I also agree that it is important to support local model shops, in order to help the local economy, especially with rising costs. of overheads. Sidcup is also an area that takes me back to my childhood, as well as the train line via Sidcup through to Hither Green, up to London.

    Super model Peter! i was testing them today at my model shop with Nick from Redshed..the Yeoman looks great running with the extra lights..noticed the light flicker on DC as you said but fine on DCC...all in all looks great!...see you've resorted to a thermometer rather than go straight to the hat and gloves lol!!...all the best for 2023 dave

      @torridonroadbypeterdixon4162  Год назад

      Hi Dave, yes indeed there's light flicker under DC which would have annoyed me. Then there's a mod to fix the lights for the early (yeoman). Still an unknown cost as to how much to run the heater in the shed. I could wear the hat and gloves :) but the control buttons on the hand unit don't work to well if its very cold, works OK if the temps up a bit but then that's back to having heater on. Still days getting longer an on our way to spring and hopefully finish with the cold. All the best matey Peter

    Peter, The PCB's are all the same, for those fitted with the smoke generator, next to the light configuration switches there are 3 holes in the board that the smoke generator switch fits on to. Wiring runs from the board to a unit that plugs into the side of the smoke generator to operate it.

    Hello, Peter! It's great to see you and the shed up and about. It is amazing the stories going about some of these locos and certain wagons right now. The Class 59 is quite a stunner in the DB red (so, I am biased), and it sounds great! Nice job showing how the close couplers do not create buffer lock, too. Joyce and I burst out laughing with the callback to my silly video! I do appreciate the concern for their legs... but those haircuts! Oy! First they lose their legs, then you give them Moe Howard from the Three Stooges haircuts. Life just ain't fair for little plastic men! 😁😁😁😁😁 Take care of yourself and thanks for another great video!

The problem is what's needed to get to the cab/seating area to put a driver in, it can be tricky but this one was dead easy. Hi Peter i also got the db shenker liveried 59, very nice looking model i got the dcc and smoke fitted version i can tell you the smoke unit isnt worth bothering with in my opinion i thought it would be a good little gimmick as i like the smoke effect on the steam locos but its very hard to see as its just water vapour and it cant be turned on or off with the controller as far as i now, i would much rather have gone with what you got and got it sound fitted, it looks and sounds great on your layout, am not sure if the same sound decoder you have is ok on mine, hopefully it is and mine is dcc fitted but the cab lights do flicker on one side, keep up the good work. Tom

    • @torridonroadbypeterdixon4162
      @torridonroadbypeterdixon4162  Год назад +1

      Hi Tom, so what I know is the PCB boards are the same for all versions, just the switch for the smoke unit is added. So I would think another chip would be OK. Does the cab light flicker when still or moving? I can't have cab light on when moving just when at standstill and needless to say no flickering.Have seen the video by North West Trains and he complains of cab light flicker. I wonder if the power to the smoke unit is causing the problem with the cab light. Maybe turn the smoke unit off from the switch on the PCB and see if that works. Here's his video it happens at 19 mins into the video. ruclips.net/video/3JED2GMGD-c/видео.html

    • @northwesttrainsmodels

      @torridonroadbypeterdixon4162 Hi Peter that was my video 😂, the loco only has a flicker on one cab and when it's static am glad I saw your video showing about the chip fitting maybe that's why I thought it wouldn't work on mine I read some were that only dapols own sound chip would work and I assumed that was because of the smoke generator but when it has a manual switch to turn it of or on i wouldn't thought it would affect the decoder now come to think of it, I think I'll do what you done get the sound decoder from rails and deactivate the smoke generator, I did also see susannas video and that did put me off getting a chip for it, thanks again for the advice and info 👍

    • @torridonroadbypeterdixon4162
      @torridonroadbypeterdixon4162  Год назад +1

      Hi, I have had one off to cut a little bit of sprue off that was left still on the axle box. So I can tell you the wheel axle is longer than on the Hattons, the axle box itself is shorter and fits nicely onto the end of the axel and is helped by a tacky glue to keep it in place.and the last thing it is not stressed by having the weight of the loco running on it, unlike what was happing with the Hattons 66s

    hi Peter
    I got the sound fitted class 59 mine has the switch missing for the smoke unit , on examination of the smoke box in the loco its just a casing its not wired up to anything its empty im guessing dapol did not include the switch so you can't upgrade it if you want smoke you would have to buy another loco with the smoke unit fitted and wired up.

    • @torridonroadbypeterdixon4162

  • @hotdogpilot6319
    @hotdogpilot6319 Год назад +1

    Would have thought all the circuit boards would be identical, why have components missing, I can't figure that one out at all. Then to add a smoke unit that is unnecessary is baffling, I don't understand their M.O. at all. If you then wanted the smoke to actually work after all that...the switch is missing. The GBRF one we've ordered should have smoke enabled so I'll let you know when we get it. Andy.
