    This video has really been helpful. I had received my red line after it had been serviced and all the settings were back to the factory reset. Watching this video showed me how to change the radar detector back to my preferred settings.

    This is a big help I was goin to send it back in for calibration nd sensor. Thought it wasnt working right. I have local police car passing me nd it didnt even go off. It make me feel nervous not to speed in town but I usually dont. Mostly speed when heading out of town and want to have the best performance. Thanks for making this video keep up the good work!! Thumb up!

    Thanks Vortex. Been running this for 2+ years now and it worked well. I did find a local officer had a gun that must have been out of the range of segmenting the Redline but the next time I saw him it alerted (yep I got a citation which is how I know). I'm actually traveling across the country right now and ended up turning Ka SW back on because in Ohio and Pennsylvania I was seeing a lot of officers but the detector was totally silent. Anyway, really appreciate all the videos man. Keep it up!

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  7 лет назад +1

      Some out of tune guns do exist in a few areas. For this reason some people run segment 6. They're rare, but they do exist. If you got pulled over with no alert from your Redline, that's one thing. If it's simply not going off when you pass an officer, odds are he simply had his radar gun on.

    Just ordered one through Amazon via your link. Guess we are gonna see how well it does. I haven't ran one in years. I got tired of only getting alerted when I could see the cop. LOL

      +Derrick Bray Congrats! Yeah the Redline should give you crazy good warning ahead of time, as long as he's got his gun on of course. :)

      That's always the challenge. You still have to use your eyes and brain just a bit. I was on the fence between the Redline and the V1. Next on the agenda, either a ALP with Radeson HD + or a Stinger VIP.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 лет назад

      +Derrick Bray Yeah totally. It sounds like at this point you've got radar covered so ALP's would be the best next step then.

    Hey I just wanted to thank you for the recommendations you gave me on the KA setup it's been working fine in Ventura County. but having a little problem in Los Angeles. on several occasions. probably thinking Los Angeles has a different set up. Anyways on a few occasions CHP officers have passed me and pulled over somebody in front of me and I got no detection at all and some other occasions I've passed CHP parked on the side of the freeway and still no detection at all.. also passed a few CHP officers on the freeway that had people pulled over already and still no detection.. Other than that it's been great it's saved me several times just seeing what your input was on this... Thank u

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  10 лет назад +1

      Glad to hear that things are working for you! One thing to keep in mind regarding radar detectors is that they are exactly that. They are not cop car detectors. They are radar detectors and they detect the presence (or not) of radar. Often times an officer may be using laser, not radar. Additionally, they may turn their radar unit off when making a stop and in that case, your radar detector will not go off either.

      +Vortex Radar I am new in this radar detector world. Will turn on TSR will fail to against quick triggers. My current settings is TSR off and hwy mode for maximum performance. It catches 24.1 K band constantly even when I park in the garage. I also tap it to my mirror and not using smart cord.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 лет назад

      If you turn it on, it will introduce a sub-second delay and filter out the briefest K band alerts, yes. Unfortunately that's a trade-off that most people need to take, otherwise the detector is almost unusable in the real world. Sure it can alert you to faster alerts with the filter off, but you'll get so many false alerts that you'll probably ignore that alert in the first place.
      Some newer detectors can filter out false alerts without requiring TSR, but they don't offer the all-out performance of the Redline.

    By far the best informational video for the Redline. My only question is how do we find out what frequencies our local police use, etc. I live in Chicago so...ahaha... im sure the detector would be going off every two seconds.

    Dear Vortex: First, forgive my inattention in case this question was addressed by you or any of your followers and fans here. Now, straight to the point: I couldn't find an answer in the manual that came with the radat detector or even online, so I thought I would ask: is there anyway to silence or disable the warning chimes my Redline makes when starting up? These chimes are for POP, K, and X bands I am disabling, since based on my experience on the road, and according to many articles and videos (including yours), those bands are very rarely used. The chimes are so annoying, and they beep every single time I start my car. They are most annoying when I have someone with me in the vehicle: I would have to explain to them what that "noise" is every single time, etc. Just imagine!
    Thanks in advance!

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 лет назад

      +mimabaya That's normal and you can't disable that. They're warnings to let you know that you've disabled some bands and will be unable to detect them now. I wish there was a way to say "I know, please don't alert me again," but that option isn't available. It would be great if we could disable those startup beeps!

    • @mimabaya
      @mimabaya 9 лет назад

      Thanks for the answer! I figured there was no way to avoid those annoying sounds. I just wanted to make sure. I hope the Escort guys will take this into consideration when updating the firmware. I understand its for the user's own protection in case one of the bands is accidentally disabled, etc., but I think it's worth coming up with a middle ground for those who know what the hell they're doing.

    I presently live in Virginia(where radar is illegal!) and I NOW have the 9500ix. I always run expert mode because of where & when I do most of my traveling. I still have, but, I don't run my 8500 x50 any more. What settings would you recommend using the RedLine or 9500ix here in an aggressive state like Virginia(radar detector detectors are used here)? And they use laser quite bit here! And there have been times that my radar DIDN'T alert when I would see him on the side of the road shooting his laser, (why)?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  10 лет назад +1

      Jerome Kelley Apparently it's mostly 34.7 and 35.5 in VA, though there's been reports of 33.8. If you're not sure, definitely leave at least segments 2/5/8 on. A Redline is definitely preferable over the 9500ix for not only raw performance, but also being undetectable to RDD's.
      Laser is a very tight beam and it's very common to be hit without your RD ever going off. A RD is a poor solution for laser. A laser jammer is really necessary in this case. Be very careful though because some police officers can tell when they're being jammed and will pull you over and ticket you anyways. Some even know what they look like and will ticket you when recognizing them on your car. If you look into laser jammers, visit RDF for further advice.

    "Overdriving" what really happens is the harmonics off the main lobe repeat enough for the detector to pick it up and the detector zooms-in on that signal instead (sidelobe).

    The redline is a great detector for you guys in the states and all of North America as well but in Europe it's a different story here we are faced with the evil multanova 6f and the 6fa (mobile version placed on the grill of a police car ) transmitting a very week signal on 34.3 ka band and placed with the direction of the traffic from personal experience the only detector that can save you in this situation is the Valentine one with euro mode on.

    Only complaint about this device I have seen from multiple reviewers on different sites is that they get a message that pops up on the screen and says "SERVICE REQUIRED" after only having it for a few months.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 лет назад

      +PMC PMC Yes that does happen from time to time. Some people may not see it for years if ever, some do see it sooner. I'm not entirely sure why. The detector does an extensive self-check every time it starts up and lets you know something has gone wrong. Not all detectors do though so it's good to know when something does go wrong. If you see that and you bought new, you have a warranty good for 1 year so they'll take care of it for free through that point.

    thanks for the reply one last thing what is the red line detecting inside the police vechile at 34.7when then are parked at there friends house not even in there vechile I started getting a reading 1 mile away I looked after signal got strong and he's parked in a driveway at his friends talking to him ,I'm reading something off the vechiles when they are not even trying to catch speeders they are just parked or patrolling and it always reads them and you were right I did read a police vechile at 24.102

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 лет назад

      +AWAYOZ Yeah if the radar gun is left on, and often times it is, you'll be able to pick them up. Whether they're actively using the speed readings from the radar gun to issue tickets at the time is another story. ;)

    Question 2: does escort live play audio? Example- RD hooked up to motorcycle, escort live connected to phone with headphones to helmet. Will I get an audio alert via escort app through headphones?

    I was wondering if you can help me figure out some better settings I've noticed here the police vechiles are alerting while there just having coffee which is. great that they left something on lol I was able to tell a cop was in the woods watching a friend's house but my question is that the detection has to many falses from stores it seems when it is a cop for real it's in the 34 or 33 range and when it's not I'm ggetting 24 range how can I block out all I just want everything in the 30+ range

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 лет назад

      +AWAYOZ So it's good to understand a little bit about bands. K band (24.xxx GHz) can likely be a false alert, but police radar can very well be in that range as well so it can be dangerous to turn it off altogether. That's why it's better to use filters like TSR and GPS lockouts. Take a look at the RDFGS to see if K band is used in your area: www.rdforum.org/wiki/index.php?title=RDF_Geographical_Survey
      Ka band (33.8, 34.7, 35.5, etc.) is much more likely to be a police officer as you've found. Rarely you can get a false alert from a poorly designed and "leaky" radar detector, but typically it's legitimate so those you should definitely pay attention to.

    Hi, quick question that's sort of related because I just got a Redline a few days ago. I live in North Carolina and it seems like in the city/county I am in, only Ka is used. I've never seen a K-gun in a car, nor have I ever gotten a K alert that I could link to any form of speed clocking. I used to have a 9500ix and most K band alerts from around town were blocked. But now that I've upgraded to the Redline, I kind of want to just turn K alerts off while I'm in the city. Is there any way to find out for sure if my area is *not* using K-band anymore? I've checked the registry you have online and there's nothing for my particular county; any advice?

    Hi, is it possible to have different custom settings? Like one you suggested in this video for highway mode ,and second one for the city with TSR on, RDR on.
    And second question is it possible to do programing thru Escort Live App on android phone ? For some reason I can't find video about Escort Live working with radar detector thru smart cord. May be you can go thru that topic in your future video.
    Thank you.

      You can't have profiles that switch over a set of settings, but you can certainly change individual settings as you wish.
      As for Live, that only works if you get a Live cable that has a Bluetooth chip in it. Otherwise there's no Bluetooth anywhere for the phone to talk to.

I would like to know what kind of radars police in my county use as well as what other tactics they use (VASCAR ect). Maybe far fetched, but if you know how I could find out their inventory for speed enforcement and how many officers are trained on specific radars or technics like VASCAR that would be awesome.

      Go to rdforum.org and click on RDFGS then click on your state. That's a place for people to all share what they see in different parts of the area and will give you a good idea. You can find out speed enforcement inventory sometimes by simply googling it. Some departments publish that information publicly.

    Great video by the way. I'm trying to update my Red Line via my smart cord live. Keep getting the internet run around. I'm not that savvy in finding those kind of sites and the Escort site seems to just want to sell new detectors. What is the address to update this? Also I read where my cord must be updated. Heck in the Escort Live app it shows no detector found,,, :(

    Awesome video! You really know your stuff. I'm planning on setting one of these up on my motorcycle and have a question for you. If I set it up behind my fairings (plastic), will it have the same effectiveness as if it was behind a window? Will it even work?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 лет назад

      +Chris Thompson It should be okay as long as it's flat plastic (not curved or angled), there's no mesh type material, and there's no metallic paint. If it's flat and perpendicular to the detector it will be alright, otherwise the plastic will diminish your signal detection capabilities.

    Question: The setup suggests using Auto rather than Highway. If the Redline doesn't have a GPS how does Auto work in order for the detector to know when to go from highway to city mode? I would think the redline would need to have a built in GPS in order to determine speed. Since it doesn't have a GPS how does the Redline know that you have slowed down or sped up to a point that it switches from highway to city mode and vice versa? Question #2; when the redline is in city mode which bands are reduced for sensitivity? Question #3: what speed would the redline make the switch between the two modes?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  7 лет назад

      Right, it's not a GPS based thing. Escort hasn't given much information other than it does some intelligent analysis or something, but I have found a reduction in sensitivity with Auto mode. I'm not sure exactly what it's doing though.
      The Redline doesn't have a City mode. The Magnum does, but not the Redline. Either way, Auto mode applies to X and K band, but not Ka.
      As you correctly guessed, the Redline's Auto filter doesn't use GPS so there's no speed that it switches between like with other detectors.

      Lots of people turn off K band in CA (including LA and Glendale) because it's so rare. There's always the potential risk, but if you have a detector like a Redline with limited K band filtering, the trade-off may very well be worth it.

      The settings I recommend are good for most places, but that web site will help you fine tune things for your area. Drive around and see what you encounter on the road. Only turn segments 2, 5, or 8 off if you REALLY know what you're doing. It's extremely dangerous otherwise. Based on that site, you'll want X off, K on, segments 2, 5, and 8 on, and segment 6 if you want to be extra safe. TSR is reported in the area so turning that on will help with falsing at the cost of some K band responsiveness.

    Serious question. How do you find out if a cop clocked you using pop?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  10 лет назад

      If you have POP mode enabled, your Redline will alert to POP if it's being used. That said, POP mode really isn't used and enabling it leads to increased falsing and decreased performance so it's best to turn it off.

    • @MasteringHow-To
      @MasteringHow-To 10 лет назад

      But what if a cop used it.. And you end up in court. How are you supposed to know to fight it? Since it's not effective.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  10 лет назад

      I'm not a lawyer, but a POP shot is NOT sufficient to use to issue a citation on its own. You get no tracking history, no audio doppler, the manual states that POP is not supposed to be used, police departments know it's not valid in court, its accuracy is questionable, and so on. Any good lawyer will ask about obtaining sufficient tracking history and a cop would have to lie under oath to say that he got that if all he got was a POP shot. If a speed is acquired via POP, the gun will automatically switch over to normal operation if you push the button again immediately after, this way you can get a normal reading. So if you have POP off and aren't detecting these shots, you'll see it as normal IO.

      postersm 71 Still the best for Virginia, if you can handle the K band falsing. If you don't see K band there, then turn K band off and just run Ka band. All other units are still detectable, except for the M3 based Redline. It's still a great unit, despite the superiority of the Uniden R 1/3 which are detectable.

    great vid!!! i get a lot of K band alert along the freeway ride...I think they are the traffic flow sensor but i m afraid to just ignore it...any suggestions?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  10 лет назад

      Most likely they're from cars which have those blind spot sensors. Short of turning off K band altogether, there's no remedy for it unfortunately. It's only going to get more common as more cars get these. You can try turning on TSR if you have those traffic sensors, especially if you don't have K band used in your area, but otherwise there's not too many other options unfortunately.

  • @itsOneHP
    @itsOneHP 8 лет назад

    Hey +Vortex Radar, does TSR only cause delays on K-band? Also, would you recommend turning on KA Band 6 on due to the old-school, but rare, Radar guns? I wouldn't want to risk missing a blip of radar while i'm on the road. Thanks!

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 лет назад +1

      +Gabriel Estevez TSR is just K band, yeah. Some people with lots of 34.7 in the area do run segment 6 to catch normal 34.7 guns that may drift high in frequency. Old off frequency guns are exceedingly rare. If you're concerned, you can enable an extra segment with almost no impact to performance.

    • @itsOneHP
      @itsOneHP 8 лет назад

      +Vortex Radar Right. I live in North Carolina, and my main concern is making sure I'm covered in that one-off moment. Also, another question if I may. I have a sun strip tint on top of my windshield. I suppose it's not a good idea to mount it against that since it'll deter the performance of the detector, right? From my understanding, the higher is better for radar detection. Thanks!

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 лет назад

      +Gabriel Esteves That's actually the ideal place to mount it. It's high for great radar reception plus out of sight of any other drivers, police officers, or potential thieves. Most tint strips don't affect radar performance, only the metallic ones. It will impact laser detection, but who cares? You need laser jammers for that anyways.

      +Justin Grinch Good question. I believe it would still work. My subscription is currently expired and I can still connect to the detector and see alerts on it so I would assume so. • @palboi
    @palboi 9 лет назад

    I found your article to be very enlightening and well-written. I’ve viewed some of your other videos and I now know a lot more about radar and radar detectors. However, I do have a question regarding the X band setting. I just received my Redline and most of my driving will be to/from California and Idaho. As such I’ll spend 49% of the time on Interstates and 49% of the time on two lane state highways. It’s driving through the rural areas on the two lane highways that has me concerned about the X-band being turned off. So my question really is since the Redline has two antennas one dedicated to the K/Ka bands and one dedicated to the X band, will there be any performance hit if I operate in modified ‘XR’ configuration: Highway mode, X ON, K On, Ka 2,5,8 ON,TSR OFF, and RDR OFF? I’m not concerned so much about false X-band readings.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 лет назад

      +Pete Loya There won't be a performance hit. The main thing is actually not so much the two antennas, but the fact that X band is such a tiny frequency range to scan. That's why there won't be a huge performance change. If you're concerned about it, feel free to run it, but chances are you won't see it. Being in the rural areas, you won't run into many falses either. Maybe just passing through towns. Much of CA is Ka band only and shutting off K band (and X band) will help with the falsing tremendously.
      As for those XR settings (there's no such thing as an XR...), you may want to change those too to include Auto instead of Highway and TSR on. That will help with the K band falsing too, something that you'll get a fair amount of with the Redline.

    • @palboi
      @palboi 9 лет назад

      +Vortex Radar I'll be making the round trip over the next two weeks and I'll set it up as you suggested. Thanks for the quick reply and help.
      What's the difference of using AutoXoff vs. Auto and X OFF?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 лет назад

      Same thing. I think AutoNoX has one less beep on startup since X Off gives you the initial warning beep to let you know X band has been disabled. Otherwise it's the same thing.

    • @palboi
      @palboi 9 лет назад

      +Vortex Radar Thanks for all your videos and help. I think I now know enough to be dangerous. You can tell me if this RedLine setup sounds logical for my driving Idaho to/from California needs:
      Highway (switch to AutoNoX if many falses if X is still on)X on (change to X off when confident X not a real threat)K onKaSW offKa Bands 2, 5, 8 onPOP offSWS offLaser onTSR offRDR off
      Based on the RDforum map you posted in one of your videos, I’m sure I won’t find any need to have X on. But,I would just like to have a little confidence before I turn X off and run in the Highway mode.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 лет назад

      Keep things simple. If you don't think K band is in use much, Auto and TSR will help tremendously. Just keep that in mind when you try driving with TSR off and get incessant K band false alerts. X band, if it's not in use, just turn it off. If you're not sure, turn it on. Really, simpler is better.

    Is there a way to turn off K band and just have Ka on with segment 2,5, & 8 ? Getting too many false alerts with K band. Thanks!
