The media had me hating Swoden thinking he was a traitor. After learning the real truth. I now consider this man a hero. I put him up there with guys like Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and Roser Parks.

Snowden doesn’t not belong in this news piece. Snowden and Assange are traitors and federal criminals. No one elected them, or employed them to make the decisions they made. Snowden was not employed as a journalist. Snowden spoke of himself as a martyr, but he dumped and ran. Daniel Ellsberg stood and face the consequences.
Men like Snowden, Assange, Hale etc. Who give up their lives or freedom for the people and truth are extremely rare and honourable. The people of the world owe these truth tellers immense gratitude.
I feel sad for the other people of this story who ended up in justice hell, where only the lawyers won.
Snowden showed his love for Democracy and privacy by obtaining asylum from Russia, one of the world's most oppressive surveillance states, that tortures people who do what he did for the other side.

I'm amazed they actually showed Obama lying.
This is why we need to reinforce, strengthen, and champion our whistleblower laws and channels to do so. In every facet of government. They are often painted as frauds, “commies,” weak or attention seeking when that is never the case. A true moral compass and great show of integrity. Really quite hard to fathom the weight that whistleblowers are under and still honoring righteousness and integrity above all else that may fall.

I’m glad you’re reupping this two part series. Not enough people paid attention to it. If half of Americans saw this, they’d be marching on Washington with pitchforks.
If The People were so upset, they wouldn't tolerate the mass censorship we are seeing today. Or for that matter, tolerate the notion of putting half of the country in ghettos to isolate them, even prohibiting their free travel. Nothing surprises me in these new, frightening times.

Just how our EX-president kept crying about the "coffers were bare" and "the last administration left us nothing" and "there were no stockpiles" and "we had to start from scratch".
When in reality, what had happened was, he, himself had disbanded the NSC's directorate for global health and security and bio-defense back in 2018. So, he actually had 2 years to fill the "coffers" and make sure the cupboards were not, in fact, bare.
But instead told reporters "that was a nasty question" when asked about his decision to disband the team that had a playbook. That playbook and that team had the coordination worked out among all of the different departments that would be involved in keeping this country and those 700,000 now dead, safe instead.
In all of his courageous leadership and the fact that he can never admit he made a huge, very critical mistake, he just played the blame game. It's always someone else's fault when he fucks up.
You are exactly right. Presidents shouldn't blame a previous administration for the disastrous decisions they make. They should take full responsibility for their errors. Especially not keep using that same old line of "we did great" & "we had the best response", when in reality he allowed 1 in every 500 Americans die. Countless others will suffer from what appears to be lifelong, debilitating conditions and residual effects from a virus that could have been kept at bay much, much better.
If he hadn't been so worried about messing up his hair and make-up, maybe masks wouldn't have become such a political statement. But his tiny ego couldn't handle wearing a simple mask.

The take away here is, even though they talked about these intrusions in the past tense, more of our privacy is being surveilled than ever in 2022. Another conclusion one can arrive at, is that none of the people, in either the gov or the private sector, that are guilty of felony crimes, will ever be brought to justice, at least in this lifetime. We didn't hear about a single one, who faced the consequences of their admitted crimes, and ironically, the only person facing persecution, is the hero in the story, Edward Snowden...

Watching this again, now years later, it's so disappointing that there was no outrage in mass via the public towards these illegal surveillance programs. Sure, there was great media coverage and plenty of visibility to it but where the people in the streets? Where was the outrage from the average person? Was it because they didn't fully understand the implications? Or are they just too ambivalent to care? Who knows. But Snowden is a hero and he should be welcomed back to America with open arms. Meanwhile, nothing has changed and I can only imagine how much more sophisticated these programs are now in 2022.
Thank you Snowden and Assange. I am deeply saddened by the lack of spine of governments and their minions in social media and the media itself. The sacrifice you have both made on our behalf is truly humbling

Based on these 2 parts of the documentary. We were led to believe Snowden was public enemy but actually we should all be grateful for him. I think whistleblowing should be legalized. Thank you to Frontlines for sharing these 2 documentaries. And thank you to the journalist for publishing the story.

Congress passed the Patriot Act. The government gave itself the right to spy on us. Repeal the Patriot Act. I was appalled when I read it and could not believe our government was giving the right to collect my information if they want to.and look at what they want to. Our government is out of control.
In other words we pay for unlimited data on our phones to give our information for free to companies making BILLIONS with it.

They can scan and collect everything with today's technologies, including mail. Using regular mail will cut Google off from your personal mail though, and that's a good thing.

Apart from national security the only other reason i can think off for collecting so much personal data is to create a General AI (artificial intelligence)

I am as proactive as I can be with my online security but this is so disheartening. I'm sad I don't have the courage to live off the grid in the woods.

You don't have to live in the woods, off grid in order to unplug. Everyone did just fine before the internet, and smart phones. I've only been using a smart phone for about a year and a half or so, I like the convenience but hate the idea. I've also not been using FB much anymore but find it difficult to totally unplug. Hopefully one day I will.
