Long before the Deepwater Horizon explosion in the Gulf, BP was widely viewed as a company that valued deal-making and savvy marketing over safety, a “serial environmental criminal” that left behind a long trail of problems - deadly accidents, disastrous spills, countless safety violations - which many now believe should have triggered action by federal regulators.
Each time, BP acknowledged the wider flaws in its culture and promised to do better. But from the refineries to the oil fields to the Gulf of Mexico, BP workers understood that profits came first.

i live in Pensacola FL, on the Gulf Coast that was affected by this oil spill. i was a junior in high school and watched our tourist industry die essentially overnight because of it. 10+ years later, we still have oil washing up on the shore on occasion. i will *NEVER* forget this event, nor forgive BP for this tragedy.
Corporations aren’t people. BP does not deserve forgiveness.
Also oils going to wash up on beaches forever. It's called natural oil seepages

Ms. Rowe single handedly took on BP more than any state, government office or anyone else like no other. What a courageous and strong woman. She got more from BP than any other source including documents!

She did far more than our government did. That's the point. One woman did more to hold the company accountable than the most powerful government in the world. Just like how no one ever went to jail over the financial crisis. Instead the CEOs made millions off the government bailout.

The oil giant British Petroleum (BP) actually hired PR professionals to invent a concept designed to blame individuals, not fossil fuel companies, for climate change. And it was BP that revealed the phrase "carbon footprint", along with a "carbon footprint calculator" in 2004.
And u can pay carbon tax to offset your carbon footprint lol

Just imagine if our K-12 schools & colleges *actual taught the truth* of the many manipulations like this RATHER than teaching them as fact. Imagine if comprehensive US gov was a required subject in high school & college thus making sure graduates are able to see through the government’s smoke screens & also known how to force real changes.
Imagine if history was taught in a comprehensive way to have students understand why things happened in history, how we got where we are now, how history can be used to predict the outcome of various events & not only things to avoid but how to change the outcomes of things occurring. Imagine if age appropriate anatomy, physiology, how to stay healthy, common ailments, basics of how medical treatment works, etc was taught K-12th meaning graduates would actually know & understand how their body works, how to take care of it & how to better communicate/understand drs & treatments. Which could radically change the medical industry & help reduce cost of healthcare to the gov, insurance comps & citizens.
- But none of that will ever be implemented by the US gov. Why? BC a poorly educated &/or ignorant populous is easier to manipulate, keep divided & to control…in order to continue allowing the gov as a whole & its members to do whatever they want without consequences. And to allow the gov, gov officials, big business & the top 1% continue profiting off the suffering of the rest of the country. FYI that applies to politicians on BOTH sides of our gov.
The entire system in corrupt to the core & the ONLY way it can be brought in check is if the American people ban together & force real change. But currently America has & continues to allow our government to harshly divide us. So the question is…how bad does it have to get, what exactly has to happen before the population wakes up to reality, comes together & force real positive changes to benefit average Americans over making the mega rich richer?
I recently learned that food and beverage companies have been paying fitness influencers to make videos saying that artificial sweeteners are safe and promoting certain foods as healthy or good to eat. That’s why most companies are coming out with zero sugar drinks.
I live in Texas City, Texas. I'll never forget the day our BP plant blew up. I was at school on Galveston island, about 16 miles from the plant. We were outside walking to Chapel that morning and it sounded like a bomb went off in the distance. The noise stopped all of us in our tracks. My mother was in Texas City at the post office. She said the noise was so loud it made her ears ring and the windows of the building literally rippled. It was a horrendous, heartbreaking day. We knew several people there that day, one of whom was a team leader that lost every single person in his group. He was the only survivor. The survivors guilt eats him alive to this day. After the Texas City Disaster of 1947 that is generally considered the worst industrial accident in U.S. history, injuring over 4,000 and killing over 500, you'd think that the oil refineries would have taken note to ensure nothing like that happened to them. Seen just how easily a small, simple thing can cause so much destruction and large scale fatal consequences. I've lived in Texas City all my nearly 29 years of life, and it was just common knowledge that the BP plant was a mess. My father worked for another refinery nearby when he was young and has said that safety is often put on the back burner at refineries; profit is the primary focus at many companies. That BP plant in particular was in desperate need of repairs, and a few parts had barely been touched since the 1940's. They had been warned REPEATEDLY, over a period of YEARS, IN WRITING that if the safety issues were not addressed, there could be, and likely WOULD BE, a catastrophic situation. But, they continued to ignore them and cut costs by cutting safety standards. I've become so accustomed to the numerous refineries in my city that I often forget just how quickly something even more catastrophic than BP could happen. I also have to wonder just how many things I've been exposed to after hearing that bit about them releasing toxic gases for 40 days without telling anyone. With their reputation, who knows what all they did over the years. BP no longer has a refinery here, but I sincerely hope they have finally learned their lesson after all the death and suffering they've caused over the years. But it's hard to be optimistic with their sordid history. I mean, they obviously didn't learn enough because Deep Water Horizon happened just several years after Texas City. I also hope that the remaining refineries here took note from BP's failures and are not so reckless and not so quick to brush off serious, legitimate concerns about safety... even one accident is tragic. But BP has had far too many for it to be called coincidence. And several had significant loss of life. It wasn't like they were all minor accidents that didn't seriously hurt or kill anyone. It boils down to pure, unadulterated greed at the expense of the lives of those that do the hardest, most dangerous work: not the suits and the big wigs at the top of the company, but the people that work their assess off every day on the oil rigs and at the refineries; people just trying to make a living and provide for their families, who shouldn't have to worry about their loved dying on the job because of negligence.
Thank you. We need to have stiffer (and sweeping, across roles & responsibilities, BUT especially all the way to the top) civil and criminal penalties for these bad actors. Jailtime tends to change exec behavior, and there are standards in other developed democracies that have these. US is regressive.
I'm born and raised in La Porte. I remember hearing the explosion, too. Well, I sort of remember it. There have been so many explosions down hear that they sort of all blend together. But I remembered a lot kids I grew up with were BP payout kids cuz their parent died or were injured, but again, there are so many plant accidents here that we all have stories about them.
My mom worked in the Pasadena plants since before I was born. In fact, she went into labor while at work at one of the Bay Area Blvd plants. Needless to say, I was born with a genetic disorder that'll kill me within the next 10 years 😂 I was talking to her about the recent leaks and fires not getting reported on in the news and since she's retired now, she told me something interesting. Apparently, they'd have the FBI come down to the plants and they would instruct her and other employees not to talk about it.
She eventually went on to do turnarounds for one of the plant engineering giants and would work all around the world. The stories she's told me about incidents at refineries elsewhere are wild. At one refinery in a country that was once Russia (don't want to say the name for reasons) she and the other expats had to be rescued and escorted to safety by the UN special forces!! I kid you not, it was a blood bath.
I don't think the average person truly understands what the chemical plants are really doing and what it's like to grow up surrounded on all sides by chemical plants. No child should be able to smell the air while on the elementary playground and be able to tell which chemical is being released. Nighttime is the worst, especially if it is going to rain.
On April 13, 1950, the district court found the United States government responsible for a litany of negligent acts of omission and commission by 168 named agencies and their representatives.
On June 10, 1952, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned this decision, finding that the United States maintained the right to exercise its own "discretion" in vital national matters. The U.S. Supreme Court affirmed that decision (346 U.S. 15, June 8, 1953), in a 4-to-3 opinion.
In short, because we are the war machine of the world and we need oil to power all our war machines so this is exactly what we get AND every single US taxpayer live COMFORTABLY in this situation because it is NOT our beloved getting killed

I'm disabled with a life expectancy of 48 as a result of being born and raised in the heart of Houston's oil industry. I can't go swimming in the bay cuz of the health dangers that result from pollution - you even admit to refusing to swim in Galveston Bay. When it rains, we can't sit on the porch cuz the plants do "controlled" releases banking on the rain dissipating the chemicals enough that it can't be considered a leak or exposure incident. We LITERALLY have chemical plants so close to public schools that you can see the smokestacks from the playgrounds. We have multiple cancer clusters. Children here have high rates of learning difficulties, asthma, and autoimmune disorders all related to chronic exposure to hormone disrupting chemicals.
The taxpayers living comfortably as a result of oil aren't the ones living in oil country.

And yes you live comfortably with cars and houses in the US coz the oil powered our war machine and won in decades after WWII. Refinery's are terrible esp for the people in the fields . Great job if your corpate and work in the buildings but the people in the fields i hailing all those fumes and toxins such a dangerous job too

@lisavanderpump7475 I work in industrial (mostly powerplants), and with a lot of people that come in off of refineries and pipelines. They don't really have to deal with any fumes, but there is a lot of risk when on those job sites. A truck driver was killed a few years ago at one nearby from negligence... You have to rely on others to do their job and pray they didn't mess up or miss a step.
I refuse to work at refineries because of the risks. All it takes is a mistake or faulty equipment to get someone killed.

Anyone with any common sense knows that unless there was something super special about that spot, that the entire line where the same material and age would be in the same shape.
My dad worked for Amaco @ the TC facility in the 70's. He developed COPD 10 yrs ago in his 60's, which has ruined his retirement. No Dr or anyone else will admit this is linked to his exposure to toxic chemicals in the refineries.

The medical "professionals" denials in this error is stunning. There are a number of medicos in the oil zone along the Texas coast who've denied the effect of known carcinogens on their own patients. AND in public discourse. It's like being in China (where on some topics, people literally would repeat, word for word, the party line, two or three sentences long, from the state run China Sun - it was soooo weird). Had lots of "doctors" do the same from Galveston, S Houston to Beaumont re: health and wellness, environmental factors. I'm sorry about the price your family has to play while so many people are ... lying.
@@randallcauley9484 Both of my grandpas died in their late 60s/early 70s. Their parents lived into their 90s, save for 1 who died at age 60. My great grandparents were farmers, except for 1 who worked in the plants. He's the one who died younger. My grandpas also worked in the plants. My grandpa died over a decade before his mom. Thank god my parents aren't plant workers, but they grew up on the edge of the Houston ship channel and raised all their kids there.

Yes I noticed and backtracked to double check what I saw. That's a lot of money for such a minor mistake or typo. Those could not have been a copy of the original documents.

That's not the only thing I noticed. I'm not one to defend Big Oil. But there are several inaccurate representations being made.
For one: BP did not make any grand discoveries in the Gulf of Mexico. The US already knew about the oil deposits. The Gulf has been a major hotspot for oil production since at least the 1930's. In the mid 90's, the government placed an exploration and drilling ban in the Eastern Gulf region; to limit the ecological impact from an ever increasing expansion in Gulf oil production. The Eastern region was consequently designated as a federal oil reserve.
Fast-forward to 2009 and 2010: diplomatic tensions with Iran over its uranium enrichment programs finally reached a boil. In the years leading up to that point, Middle Eastern oil prices continued to rise as a consequence of those strained relations. That, of course, in combination with a variety of indirect consequences of the War on Terror.
With American dependence on Middle Eastern oil, we were facing a growing list of domestic crises as oil became more and more expensive. The Bush administration made early efforts to soften the blow by expanding domestic ethanol production as a supplemental energy source.
Obama administration also had its share of challenges with unaffordable foreign oil. So it took the additional step of opening federal oil reserves to expand domestic production.
All options were fraught with protests from various interests. The end result was the selection of the Eastern Gulf region. But American Big Oil was unable to finance the expansion out of pocket, as revenue had been greatly diminished from years of foreign oil dominance. The government was needed to step in and fund the efforts. As such, the federal government does what it always does. It put out an RFP and selected the cheapest bid.
Turns out, BP was the lowest bidder. So BP was awarded the first round of leases from the recently opened Eastern Gulf reserves.
This video is intentionally misrepresenting facts in an effort to over-exaggerate BP's poor history. Realistically, there's not a single player in Big Oil with clean hands. BP is just one of the gang.
What this video really is about? It's a continuation of those special interest groups who vehemently opposed Obama's decision to open the Eastern Gulf for oil production. They want BP out of there. It's not about the company. It's about the Gulf of Mexico.
I remember this back in high school like it was yesterday.. witnessing the explosion from the rig and then the orange fluid leakage affecting sea animals in the river, especially the cranes and fishes.. and then many people and fishermen gotten sick from consuming them
That day was a panic day until I found out it wasn’t the rig my uncle worked on!! Then it was heartbreak thinking of the families that had to endure such sadness and grief!! My heart goes out to them!!
A lot of already very wealthy people made money off of this incident in Louisiana (dodging fines, getting rebates for the cleanup of an accident they caused). Please don't get the story twisted. This was an absolutely devastating incident for the seafood and wetlands industry but the oil industry never really paid the price.

I worked on land as one of the few females even on the drilling location (mud logger) end. When I heard what happened I said when they evacuated the mud I would have had the coast guard coming to get me. When you put your life on a BoP you have already thrown your hail Mary!! I call my son I had the privilege of 'breaking out' & this is the first time that has been mentioned. Thank you!!

My dad's vessel was one of the first to respond to the Deepwater Horizon explosion. He was a captain on a supply boat at the time. He spent a month offshore helping with the cleanup. He started working in the Gulf of Mexico in the mid-70s and said this was the worst thing he's ever seen. He said it was a nightmare come true.

Persecution
Discrimination, favor, gifts an influence all have this in common , money, the extraction of the earth, those who have title, but have not worked, those who are favored, feared, influenced by its current medium power of force on others. Ethnic ( or common principles) persecution , hostages and tribulations of its power and control, buying the flesh and manipulating minds, dividing one and the people, labeling them with a Tax between temples for earth. But profit is not alone and the public eye need not be a subject to self interest, interest rates, debt tax; entrapment to indebtedness, for it will not bring peace nor happiness to each others lives; Its feeding misery (court, square circuit). Reason holds the reins to horse power; strong feelings runs a mad horse who, is working like an animal. One does not possess influence (force) it possesses one , making it unjust to sell it, for its creates debt , but just to possess it, likewise oil, money or earth bound commodities , a property with rate of change with circulation and direction (force) . Moreover the use of such commodities needs the confidence vote of the people of the land, for the land follows the people and vise versa. The conscious is consciousness of others, but ignorance takes from one to give to another for acceptance, at a cost. But sharing promotes kindness and the intellect pleases another.
Who is in their legal department over there? Yeah, as much as I'm able, not a dime in this lifetime. I don't support cartels.
As a retired union industrial painter America's industry is severely corroded. I've worked in chemical plants (Rubber town, Louisville, KY) or, Dupont, Rohm and Hass, BF Goodrich, among other's. These plants were a ticking time bomb. Severely corroded steel supports, piping, tanks. I've seen painting over pipes that were leaking, in an attempt to hide the leak. I've been retired for year's, and, I think most of the Rubbertown plants have changed ownership. We use to call this area the Russian front. I've worked in Pasadena Texas, Houston area, the chemical plants, oil refineries, this was year's ago, and these plants were nothing but a rust bucket. An accident waiting to happen. Just look at our country's water lines ( Flint Michigan) , sewer pipes, electric grid. I painted high voltage towers and substation steel for several years. OSHA cracked down on these companies over safety issues, I'm not sure how much maintenance is done these days. Our country's infrastructure is rotting away. I haven't even mentioned bridges. It would be the most massive undertaking to update our country's infrastructure, no previous project would come close. Never in our history. But, we better get started, it's rotting away more each day. One small example, at DuPont, they had some very highly toxic acid, HF Acid I think. They watched these tanks with cameras around the clock. In safety meeting they said, if you got one drop of this acid on you, it would burn down until it hit bone marrow. Some wicked stuff.
I wont change industries now after reading .... sounds like a Russian roulette with taking on a contract . I don't have a death wish...........dam ......Good Thing you made it out to talk about it !
We have a Dupont plant in town (used to be First Chemical), sometimes usually late at night you can smell this pungent smell all in the air, all across town.
Distressing!! Corporate management is incentivized by profit not safety.

"70 million in fines" for Texas City... That's laughable. That's a "business tax"... that's like paying a toll on the way to work... that's just a fee of doing business for BP. Apparently it costs them less to pay government fines and bereaved families hush money after major accidents than it does to perform preventative actions and maintenance.
When the company makes yearly revenues measured in the hundred BILLIONS, a few tens of millions of dollars is chump change, it's a f*king rounding error...
Fines should be a DETERRENT for detrimental activities, not a "cost of doing business". If government was really interested in affecting change, it would impose fines and sanctions that would make screwing up MORE COSTLY than the capital expenditure to actually fix the thing in the first place...

Funny how BP keeps running ads on Facebook, and the comments are full of people bringing up the spill in the Gulf. BP responds to them with how they are "helping" to restore the economy and nature that they destroyed. They make their responses sound like they are doing a favor to the Gulf region, while never admitting guilt. This company hasn't changed one bit.
Can’t cut into those executives bonuses. A tenth of those bonuses would have paid for all safety fixes.
This story hits very close to home
I’m a contractor for a pipeline company in the south east, we watch that CSB ( chemical safety board) video during annual training. We are always at odds with corporate and the field. What sounds good in an air conditioned office doesn’t always translate in the field. Luckily the company I contract for does a great job with maintenance and attention to the environment. Not pigging the line is insane, a temporary savings now?? With all the degrees in a room where these decisions are made no one invested in common sense, or a back bone????
That's because there are rarely personal consequences for these executives. If something bad happens, the company and its shareholders are the ones left holding the bag. There is a little shame in getting fired, but otherwise executives get to leave with a payout. Like the lady told Haywood at the beginning of the hearing, he should have been charged with a crime. Disasters that occur due to cost cutting are not accidents, it's deliberate risk taking and betting the odds don't catch up to you. Start locking these folks up and not just walking away, then you'll see them suddenly start making more common sense decisions.
Kind of telling about American business schools, yeah? Since the 90's we knew there were some serious ethics issues coming out of business school. Reading a P&L sheet and scuttling meaningful metrics that would measure real risk and losses doesn't seem to have gone much beyond some pretty flat arithmetic. Saw this in high tech as well.
Some exec would say, I can save us $50M a quarter if we just stop doing some of this quality and customer service spending. company loses 13% of market share while doing so, refusing to support or repair (or replace) problem hardware with their logo on it after it's been deployed. Left small-medium business owners in the lurch. Saved $40M a quarter, lost $100M in sales and new customers, not just in that segment, but K-12, kids going off to college and other consumers. Because people will tell their friends and family (rightly so).
That same exex was gone after a year. And guess what he's selling at his new company? I can save us $50M a quarter if we just ...

My dad worked for Amoco all his life and this BP buyout caused him so much stress it ruined him and a family man got on heroin and crack to cope with the stress and I lost everything. I became a homeless 14 year old because of the evils of this company and the stress they put on their workers.
That's still no reason to turn to drugs or to go get on dang crack all because of some stress from a dang job man,just go find another job and DON'T go find crack!!!🤔🤔🙄🙄🙄🙄

I remember that during the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico you could smell a strong burnt grease smell all the way over in the town of Lake Wales, Florida, which was in the middle of Florida and about 300 miles away. The wind often blew from west to east, directly across the open water of the Gulf without anything to block it and then across Florida which is also flat. The air made you cough, and your throat and eyes felt very irritated. The smell even came inside your apartment with the windows shut. The local TV news would downplay it because Florida depends a lot on tourism, and they would show pictures of the spill site on a map as if it was very far away. The reality was it was not that far away, and it was directly in line with the direction of the wind. My apartment maintenance man who was outside a lot said he had started gobbling cough drops to sooth his throat. It was like breathing directly from a giant exhaust fan from a big greasy restaurant kitchen, when there was no restaurant anywhere nearby, just the huge amount of spilled oil baking in the Florida sun in the ocean water in the Gulf of Mexico.
Sadly, Trumps decision to further weaken regulations in this industry don't help at all. It's only a matter of time before there's another preventable disaster

Excellent presenation - the epitome of Profits first, safety last - but preach the gospel at every turn, "Safety First". Spent 35 years in the oil patch, got gassed, poisoned, mistreated, and not a single acknowledgement from management.
The company should be barred from doing business in the US for these kinds of infractions and pattern negligence.
Managers are not in a position to override science and standards.

I was living in Destin FL when the deep water horizon blew and it killed the our tourist industry overnight within a couple of days the Beaches were a ghost town and I will NEVER forgive BP for what they did
A lot of people in my area worked on the rig. It has affected so many people. The survivors could not work due to their serious injuries and burns. They received settlements that didn't even cover ongoing heath care. The coastline is still effected.
I went on family vacation to gulf shores alabama a few months after the oil spill. We were there maybe an hour when the water started turning black and washing up oil everywhere on the beach. I was there when they shut the beaches down because it was so bad.
I live in a gulf state where our food culture is seafood and fishing is a massive industry. It's been years and we are still seeing some fish come up with mutations. It caused me to stop eating seafood.
Thanks frontline, your program is an American treasure. I still do not eat any seafood from the gulf in 2022. A follow up would be great. I'm sure they are doing nothing different since this aired in 2010. They are criminals.

Having managed PMS, safety and environmental for a natural gas processing company I know the pain in preventing these events. Multiple times I expected to be fired for backing engineers including the VP of engineering into a corner to get answers regarding project issues or to prevent drive by engineering (those who know, know). In the end I had 1 person between me and the company president and had his ear 24/7. For those still in EHE never let something slide if life is on the line, don’t let your pride be purchased.
My in-laws own a pipe fabrication in Texas and whenever we have a job (usually a turn around) for BP our crew are still to this day worried 😟

Watching this made me ill and scared me quite severely. That ANY company producing any product with such an enormous potential for environmental impact (good, or bad), to have such a cavalier attitude towards safety is shocking. That said, I find it difficult to believe that the 5 competing oil executives would have preformed much differently if they had a Clearwater Horizon of their own.
This is why everyone hates democrats and doesn't take them seriously anymore. All they do when they riot is destroy their own and other private citizens stuff like a spoiled brat temper tantrum. Useless pawns just playing into the hands of these corrupt people. Nothing is going to change until they start turning their riotous targets torwards these politicians and officials. Thing is *none* of the other big oil companies who have rigs in the Gulf have had *NO WHERE NEAR* the leaks, spills, fires, explosions, sunk rigs or *deaths* as BP…even when you account for them having less rigs. And *nearly ALL* of the incidents & deaths on *both* BP’s Gulf rigs & their land sites have been proven to have occurred due to refusing to make repairs, cutting corners/rushing workers & ignoring safety protocols to save money.
Yes…I’m 100% sure the other 5 companies cut corners to save money. *However* unlike BP they seem to realize that…if nothing else…that spending the money to insure major disasters & preventable deaths don’t occur is *FAR CHEAPER* that the government fines, payouts to employees/their families & lost income due to damaged public image…not to mention settling state, community & ecological groups lawsuits. I read an article where the author added up *only the KNOWN* payouts & fines for each disaster along with the estimated costs of things they failed to pay for that caused/contributed to each one. In *almost every case* it would’ve costs BP LESS to have made the needed repairs, replacements, safety checks than what they were forced to pay out PUBLICLY… *not counting* the billions in undisclosed payouts. I could maybe understand having to learn that lesson the hard way… *ONCE*. But to *continue* to do it for short term profits…is just stupid. But like the one guy said the laws in place have virtually no real consequences to deter BP from repeatedly breaking them. Why is that the case? BC a significant percentage of those BP shareholders they mentioned pressuring the company to raise profits *are members of our US Congress*!! And BP along with all the other major oil companies & other major industry companies have lobbyist in DC who spend billions making sure they face as little restrictions & consequences as possible.

What blows up my mind is that companies in various complex industrial areas prefer paying billions in fines an settlements, to the normal maintenance of their facilities, which would cost WAY smaller amount of money.

Gosh I remember when this happened. I’m originally from the gulf coast but moved several hours away. Once a year we would travel back down to visit family and a beach trip was a must. I remember this ruining that trip for us because I, 13 at the time, was devastated we couldn’t go to the beach that year.

I haven't seen an oil major that works any differently from BP. Everyone I have worked for tries to cut costs and most of that is in areas of safety or worker's salaries excluding upper management

I was digging a whole in the sand at st Joseph's bay for my daughter3 weeks ago. 10 inches down,oil . had to make my daughter get out of water. you could see oil floating. so sad.

I live on the Gulf Coast and still hear about oil being found. Those chemical "dispersants" used caused the oil to clump up and sink. It does not just disappear or evaporate.....

The mud slinging undertaken by the other oil CEOs is embarrassing. I have no doubt that Exxon, Shell and Chevron have done the exact same things as BP but they just don’t get caught. There needs to be stringent regulation and serious enforcement for this industry. When corporate profits take priority over human life and safety as well as environmental consequences, then accidents like this are to be expected. Where were the inspectors and the regulators in this scenario? Where was the EPA? We can’t rely on private corporations to regulate themselves.
Not all companies act in the same standard as BP, on any given day there are thousands of wells being drilled around the world and yet they are being drilled safely and efficiently. To say that this industry needs more oversight is laughable considering the overwhelming changes made to the industry already. We fall under government oversight on multiple levels already. It was absolutely a tragedy and 100% BPs fault, but to limp all companies into the same group is harsh

I can't believe oil is actually rare or running out. If that was the case oil companies wouldn't let oil spill out of tankers, pipe lines and rigs like it was worthless.

The fact that the refinery explosion happened FIVE YEARS before the Deepwater Horizon blowout (and virtually the same thing happened all around), is just mind boggling to me. WHY is this company still being allowed to profit off the injury and deaths of their employees?!
I remember when this all happened I was 6 and I remember seeing it on my grandparents TV after school not understanding what happened at all now that I’m older I find the amount of negligence disgusting.
