      Camaraderie among contestants. Helping and supporting each others, rather than American contestant shows where it's absolute norm to trick, bully and backstab opponents. Also, judges and hosts are absolutely great.

      I no longer watch it as the things I DISLIKE most about "GBO" are the two clowns (not Paul or Pru) who add nothing and are just an irritation! I'm surprised neither of them have been punched in the face...or at least been told to "Bog off". Sue and Mel were so much better.

      A competition show I had great hopes for was completely ruined by the production company's insistence on drama and rivalry. The competitors, some of whom I've met, were actually friendly with each other, willing to help one another, and genuinely enthusiastic about each other's successes and creativity. Those things were not permitted on camera. As a result, the show only lasted one season, and had lost much of its audience part way through that one.

    I was on the Great American BAking show that was filmed in a tent in London. The production staff and those that made sure we had EVERYTHING we needed are the true work horses of the tent! As for the bakers, we just had to do what we loved most ( and not try to screw it up) Plus working around the producers, hosts, judges... there were roughly 35 people in the tent at all times. The editors really know how to do their magic... All in all, it was a wonderful experience and something I will never forget. Just follow your dreams and have fun!

      This may seem like a rude question, but it’s a very practical one. I’ve always wondered, if bakers are busy inside the tent for hours on end, where do they go to the bathroom? I hope they don’t have to walk back to the hotel each time since they’d be away from their baking too long, and I don’t think an outhouse would be sanitary enough when working with food. I’m just wondering because I am a senior citizen with bladder issues, but I love to bake.

    • @jcinkc3
      @jcinkc3 2 года назад +10

      @@debpabetz9730 While filming, if we needed to go the the restroom, they would focus on other bakers and we would be escorted to the Manner house. They gave us many breaks since the filming could be 10-11 hours a day ( every other day) They gave us many days off to work on our recipes. Typically 1-2 days shooting and off a day sometimes off 2 days. In total it took a month to film the 10 episodes.

    You should have mentioned in the spin off section, the fact that many other countries have developed their own version of the show. The Great Australian Bake Off (if you ignore an abysmal first season) is just as lovely and enjoyable. Matt and Maggie (a true Aussie legend) are great judges and the show is in a shed instead of a tent. The banter between Clair and Mel very much reminds of of the banter between Sue and Mel from the first seasons of GBBO.
    Long story short, I absolutely love both shows and hope they continue indefinitely.

    Love GBBS! Can't wait for another season! We really like it as a family show, without fake drama & inappropriate stuff - BUT sometimes the hosts, esp 1 with no hair in particular, ruin what is good clean fun with rude jokes. Enough already. People LOVE this show b/c it doesn't have crap like that in it (mostly).

    What does the GBBO really have that draws the viewers and TRUE fans?
    THEY ALL HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR!!! If none of these people had a sense of humor, they wouldn't be so friendly with each other, they wouldn't be able to make fun of themselves and laugh, they wouldn't be able to stand there and cry when someone leaves.......or clap their hands when someone comes back!
    Humor leads to the friendship, understanding, and love these people have with each other. They take life seriously, but they know life isn't a solid built road you travel on........it's got potholes, bumps, and cracks all over it. And you just deal with them as they come.
    If the people on this show didn't leave the audience laughing, loving, and hugging at the end of every show.........it wouldn't be the staple of awesome TV that it is.

    Nice video, but small correction. It's a production company that makes GBBO, not the BBC. GBBO used to be on the BBC, but then moved to a different channel (I guess Americans would call it network). The Great Pottery Throw Down (which is chill to watch) shares a similar story: originally on BBC, then moved to a different channel.

    What I’ve always liked about this show, and what brings me back, is that the bakers are always on a level playing field. The contestants know going in what they’ll be expected to bake, i.e., bread week, dessert week, and so on. There are no advantages that contestants can win, unsuitable partners aren’t forced upon them, and everyone can bake using the ingredients they wish to use. So, at the end we can be sure that whoever is crowned champion actually deserves it and did not win through luck. And all the bakers are true artists. Here in the US we’re treated to a game show atmosphere. Everyone is talented, but does the winner truly deserve it?

I have kept a list of what they make, so some day... They are always kind to each other and I really enjoy the humour- very British and seriously raunchy at times. Enjoyed the British version of Bake Off when advert free on BBC, now prefer the French series where programmes are long enough to properly show what the tasks involve and the focus is on patisserie rather than a broader range of baked goods. There is a separate series for bread and boulangerie which is also really well done. Canadian, Irish and Australian programmes turn up from time to time on RUclips, worth looking around if you have a VPN. Reasons for stopping watching the GBBO - too many adverts, no Mary Berry, lack of depth in respect of how recipes have evolved into the food we eat today.
