Love the video, but years spent in harm's way taught me to place little reliance on highly technical solutions to survival situations. I trust the recraftable boots on my feet, the pack on my back, and a nose that smells trouble early enough that I am already out of the danger zone before the masses panic and gridlock the roads. Nonetheless, keep up the great videos!

I got an ebike a few years ago right at the limit (750w) where it is still considered a pedal bike on sidewalks, parks and wildlife areas where motor vehicles are outlawed. It has been a useful tool even on private land to haul out game in areas where side by sides can’t go. It had enough power with a little pedal to get up out of a canyon. Also they are more silent and quicker than walking along with not leaving human scent for deer.

Imagine an e-bike which allowed you to use the battery/e-motor boost when wanted but also allowed you to turn off the motor and use the e-bike as a regular bike, BUT, had an extra "gear setting" which would activate a mini generator using the power of your legs to recharge the e-bike battery, and I suppose you could use this feature when you are feeling fresh or on easy terrain or even, hoise up the back wheel just a bit off the ground, and while standing upright/still, "ride" the bike in place, but activate the generator option...
NOW THAT is an e-bike i would pay $3k for!!!!!

Honestly when I first heard of E bikes, i just kinda assumed that's how they were lol. I'm actually suprised they arent. They definitely should do that. They could even make the front wheel have a generator to engage and disengage using a break handle or somethin. It would have to be a D.C. motor though so as to avoid needing an inverter circuit.

Its called regenerative breaking... most e-bikes can not do that, because they have a freewheel clutch, so pedaling/moving the bike forward does not move the motor... so yes, all e-bikes can be ridden like a normal bike, just heavy.
You can get motors with no clutch, or no gears, that can generate power with regen breaking, or can be set up to make power while you pedal... you would be surprised how much energy it would take out of you to charge a battery.

Hi .. I am so glad and grateful that you made this video! I'm a senior and I bought a really cool, fat tire ebike for stability, for transport and cargo independence from grid failure & gas expenses, and in my preparedness head space, I invested in 2, 100w solar panels, and a battery that could keep my fridge going for a little while. I couldn't get any info about how to hook up the ebike battery (48v) to the solar panel (now I know that 2, 100w panels would be too much) and that to hook one up, I need to get a charge controller. ...... anyways ... you helped me a lot and I thank you. (By the way, my bike has 7 gears that work very nicely without a battery so as long as my legs don't give out, this old lady can still motor .. lol)

Dude,I absolutely love it. I've been using an e-bike for 2 years now to commute to work, and I've been using my foldable powerfilm for close to 4 now. Its a small one but for charging little things it works great. The ebike on the other hand paid for itself in fuel savings in about 4 months. It is also a 4"x 26 tire. I wish I had gone for a more common tire size to be honest, just because of availability. The larger footprint is great in harsher terrain, ie , sand, snow, mud, but if your tread is worn, you're out of luck.
But thanks again for this very informative video, keep on keeping on dude ;)

Two ideas to contribute on this awesome idea:
    1. Have a extra battery in the BOB, or bike trailer, which can be charged while you pedal if your solar panel can be mounted on top of the trailer.
    2. Have a 12V adaptor because if your e-bike survives an EMP because it was covered by the blanket you described on another video, then you have thousands of charged batteries from every stalled car (the EMP will damage the car but the battery will still hold charge).

The biggest expenditure is the ebike itself. I built one myself during lockdown, using a new mountain bike and a kit off the internet.
It's not nearly as sturdy as the Rambo, but it only cost me about 1800 bucks, including the tools to actually build it.
It's still an MTB tho, it does off-road with ease, has a range of around 40-50 miles(when using peddle assist moderately, on throttle only it'll be about 30), does about 35 mph on flat road. I added pannier bags for extra carrying capacity, which vastly expands its utility for daily use.

I would go with a regular mountain bike fitted with short fenders plus a rack over the back tire. It is EMP pulse-proof and never needs charging at an inconvenient time. The much faster e-bike would be way too desirable during a prolonged grid-down and likely to make the rider a target for criminals armed with a rifle who want that e-bike.
Alternatively, I would go with a saddle horse as my transportation anywhere but on mountains and in forests. Most people these days do not know how to ride a horse and many city folks are afraid of horses, so horses are less likely than bicycles to get stolen. And when you are camping at night, a horse will get agitated and make noise if smells or hears a dangerous wild animal or people approaching. No bike will do that for you.
