Hey @ÜBERLEBEN, i got my zunden fatty in the mail today and after scraping a little bit of the black coating i took it out to test. This rod is amazing i got a fire going very quickly. The wooden handle is very comfortable and was literally built for my hand. And the striker works very well for shaving fatwood as well as striking the ferro rod. Its not heavy at all so its definitely in my edc now. Thank you for the great product.

Awesome to hear! Thank you! The Zünden is def a classic. Every once in awhile we talk about updating the design -- then we're like..... why? Anything ever, just reach out! Otherwise, enjoy that Zünden Fatty!! 🤙🏼

The best ferro rod is the one you are actually carrying when you need one. Find one you like, one you will carry, and one you know how to use. Practice with your ferro rod so that you know its limitations and that you know how to use if/when you need it. Don't worry about mall ninja opinions from the interwebs on what the best of anything is. Carry your rod (and a Bic lighter and storm matches) in your edc so that you have several choices in a pinch instead of only one tool you can't use just because someone else gave you their personal, table top opinion for it. Get out there, learn, and do for yourself.

I am always asked what are all the different increments, serration, on the strikers, as presumably a tungsten striker with 90 deg edge would be a better choice?

Our new AmbiStriker is a little simpler. Most of the those features were never really used by most.

The features mentioned are good ideas -- however I would've liked to see the sparks each firestarter throws. In the end, that's what it's all about. I know from experience and from buying & testing a number of different brands of firestarters, that rods are not all created equal. There's nothing like a demo of flying sparks & molten metal to "sell" me on a firestarter... otherwise I hem and haw and wonder what YOUR idea of a lot of sparks is. The first one was demonstrated, which was good, but even if the rods are made from the same metal, different rods will throw different due to length, girth, etc.
Btw, I like the Tinder Wick. Clever idea.
PS - I don't speak German - is there any significance to each name? Are they descriptive of the rods at all? Uberleben? Over life/over love? Like I said, I don't really speak German.

These ferro rods are good, but their strikers are mediocre...which is the norm. The biggest difference is actually with the striker more than the rod. A striker made of HSS will greatly benefit any rod.

Never liked those strikers and you can just make your own fire tinder that burns hotter and longer.

Thanks for the feedback. No striker will ever be perfect for everyone, but we're hoping to update our strikers soon. In the meantime, using the spine of a knife works beautifully as well.

I have recently added the hexa to my collection, what a beast. Where can you get the handle you guys have on this one in the video? Oh and while the paracord/leather loop is nice, a good length of firecord would be handy, easy to add though.

Idk what they use as a handle in this vid but You can use 1 inch ducktape/gorilla tape at the end of your rod. Just wrap it around until it's as thick as you like and you can use the tape for tinder or whatever else.
Edit- upon a closer look I'm sure they've used gorilla tape.

It’s a ferro rod 😂 nothing special. Why no testing? Pointless video. Time waster

Appreciate the honesty. We're learning as we go here. We hope to be posting a follow-up to this video which shows our different ferro rod's in use.

    First things First ,
ALL Ferro Rods are made in China !
There is only 2 kinds of Ferro Rods !
    A soft Ferro Rod
    and
    A hard Ferro Rod
    Ferro Rods are made from
    Ferrocerium
    Iron
    Magnesium
Hard Ferro Rods have more iron than soft Ferro Rods
Soft Ferro Rods throws more spark but wear out quicker .
Hard Ferro Rods throws less spark but last longer .
This Ferro Rod lesson is over and if you want great Ferro Rods see
    Nathan 4071
He can get you ANY size you want !
    Even
1 inch diameter by 10 inches long !

Pretty sure Überleben is producing their ferrocerium in Austria now, not China.
