Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. He was well respected as a man and a SEAL. An unconditionally loving husband, son, brother and friend that will truely be missed by all who knew him. Sincerely, Cindy Oji Axelson
Thanks, Matt. You and your team are great role models for kids like me. I am only 13, but am hoping and training to become a Navy SEAL just like you and your team. You and your team inspired me to train to become a SEAL. You and your team gave up everything to save our country and freedom., and that means a lot to me. I want to model my life after you. I have enormous respect for you and SEAL team 10. RIP and God bless you, a true American hero.
If my boys grow up to be half the man Matt and his teammates were/are then I will consider myself lucky. Hope the wives/girlfriends can find peace in their loss. From a grateful American Semper Fi
Mrs. Axelson, I don't know what to say to express how moved I am by Matt's fight, will, selfless sacrifice for my family and I. I am a 36 year old grown man, and I am speechless. There just aren't any words that can express the amount of gratitude that I have for you, Matt, his parents, and his teammates. Truly, from the bottom of my heart, thank you!
As a longtime A-10 pilot I can only say I would have given all to be there that day and possibly help these boys and the many more that followed. God Bless you all.
You will never be forgotten. I have a friend that just graduated as a SEAL. And it's stories like this that pushed him through his training. If it wasn't for men like you, he wouldn't have gotten to where he is. We need more men like this in the world. God bless and R.I.P.
Mrs. Axelson, I am a 37 year old man, a vet, a father of two boys....I just finished Marcus' book. It's stories like these that people need to hear, to remind them of the cause these guys were fighting for on that fateful day. As I wipe my tears....I also am thankful for their service & sacrifice and your sacrifice as well. My prayers go out to you. Rest In Peace My Fallen Brothers!
The sacrifice men make for this country is incredible. Willing to lay down their lives for thousands they have never met. In my mind, there is no place more honorable to die than on the battlefield. I do not wish to die, but my dream is to become one of those men, willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice. Hooyah.
What a beautiful couple. Through the video, it's so clear how happy you were together, and how deeply you were in-love. I can't begin to understand how you go on without your best friend. You must be a very strong woman. I thank you for your husband's dedication to our freedoms and way of life. Thank you for sharing this little window into your personal life. It encourages/reminds me not to take for granted those closest to my heart.
A wonderfully sensitive tribute to a hero. It's clear to see how devoted they were to one another, and I am so sorry you lost him. An exceptional man, husband and son. God Bless you all.
I just finished this book and it really took the wind out of my sail. Seeing these pictures really hit hard. I am so, sorry for your loss. Know that he is in heaven and you will be reunited. For now you will have a guardian angel. These men and their families are true heros! God Bless
Matt thanks for being such an inspiration to me and many others. RIP man. Thanks for your great courage in the fight of your life. You will never be forgotten man. Thanks for being such an awesome PATRIOT and HERO to the USA!!! OOH RAH from a MARINE
The One is alive today and telling the story of your heoism because of the sacrifice of you and your brothers, Danny and Michael. Your life was not wasted and your memory lives on as an example for others to follow. Rest in Peace and know that you will never be forgotten by those that understand and truly appreciate the price you paid for us.
God bless you Mrs. Axelson for your loss and pain. Matt paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Matt was a great Navy SEAL. He continued to fight after all his injuries, when most would quit, or surrender.
Cindy, I am so sorry for your loss and hope your life is again happy. I just finished reading "Lone Survivor" and have such respect for all of these men. They do what most of us could never do. God bless all of our military and their families.
I am a navy vet! I just finished the book LONE SURVIVOR and was moved so much by the valor and courage of these young warriors.I thank God every day for them and most of all I thank God for men like Matt.Hooyah! Matt we will never forget you Bro'
What can I say that has not been posted...I more than second the accolades, the prayers, the respect. I am in awe of men like this and the families that suffer in their absence. Thanks from a grateful American.
This man was the embodiment of true courage to go into the jaws of the enemy like he did and the selflessness he showed proven by his dying words that were dedicated to his wife Cindy are simply beyond heroic. He is an inspiration to all men like myself who can only dream to be a fraction of the man he was. God bless your soul Matt and comfort those who loved you.
After reading the book I have immense respect for team 10. They fought knowing they were clearly outnumbered and showed real courage. Rest in Peace Danny,Mikey, and Axel.
I just finished Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell...gut wrenching and extremely depressing to read but when you discover what sort of men they were and what sort of person Cindy married, you cant help but respect the guy..they were and are very very special characters and gave their lives for our freedom and the right to life a good life.
I just finished Lone Survivor. I definitely feel as if leaving a youtube comment to express my deep appreciation for this amazing hero isn't enough, but I hope it is for now. Mr. Axelson, I'm glad your bud Marcus made it out alive to share your story. I'm forever in debt to you and the rest of SEAL Team 10. God bless
Words can not express my sympathy and gratefullness to you and for your husband. I just read Marcus Luttrel's book, it's good to know that their are still true Hero's out there doing the work that many in this Great Country could not even comprehend much less attempt to emulate. My prayers are with you.
Let it be said that these men are truly Americans unsung heroes, It is rare to glimpse the dedication, resolve and skill of these truly amazing soldiers, husbands and fathers. Blessed are those who knew them and associated with them and blessed are we to hear of his valiant effort and love for our country. He is O.K. let this motivate all of us to improve something about ourselves.
This video breaks my heart. I know exactly what it feels like to be in the military and be away from the one you love. Military relationships are always so god damn hard. Through all the darkness and pain that comes with serving, sometimes the only thing that keeps you sane is knowing that person back home is waiting for you and still loves you.
Cindy, I am sorry for your loss. Matthew Gene Axelson is a great man and and an incredible warrior. He paid the ultimate price for my freedom. We, this country, owe him our greatest respect. God bless you.
Dear Cindy, Watching this video showed how much it hurts to lose some one. I have served two years in the marine crop, E.O.D. I've work with navy seal before these men are true warriors with hearts of gold. For me I've lost three good friend over in Iraq everyday I still see there faces every time I good to sleep. Your husband must be a very sweet person but don't forget he's always in your heart and all of ours. If I was on a ops with your husband I would lay down my life him.
It's very sad and unfortunate that these bravest warriors lost their own lives for a very simple mistake, giving those people that betrayed them another chance to lived. Thank you all for the sacrifices...
Last week.... while shopping with my wife, this song came on. All that I could think of was Matt, Cindy, Marcus, Danny, Mike, those who died attempting to respond as back up, my own friends lost down range, my brother police officers lost, all war fighters, my love for my wife.... my pride in my country. Thank you Mathew and Mathews family from another stranger whohas been touched by the lives of others.
Your story, your effort, your will and your heart are an inspiration to us all. I will make sure that my son knows about each and everyone of you, the value of what you did, and most importantly...why you did it!! In life and in death, you will never be alone!
Rest in peace and thank you for your selfless service. -PFC Art Axelson, 328th MP CO & former Navy -SGT Jay Axelson, 501st, Ft. Richardson, AK While of no known relation, my brother and I are proud to share a name forever linked to sacrifce and bravery. May GOD watch over your wife and family as you forever rest in peace.
I don't think anyone could pay higher tribute to Matt Axelson than Marcus Luttrell did in the aforementioned book "Lone Survivor." That being said, this short comment is in tribute to the life of Matt Axelson and the ultimate sacrifice he gave for his country, the USA. The lives of Matt and all other US military men and women lost fighting for the freedoms we enjoy here (and too often take for granted) will never be forgotten. My condolences go out to the family and friends of Matt. R.I.P.
It looks like he had a wonderful wife. She is always smiling and touching matt. I wish to GOD we would just get out of Afghanistan because the sad thing is we cannot change that culture. No amount of SF soldiers can turn back the hands of time. They will never like howard stern and rap music, They will never shop at wal-mart or accept the fact that we can teach them how to grow food. R.I.P. Matt and to all others who gave their lives for what they believed was just. Condolences to his wife.
I read the book "lone survivor", and I read it again and again... and sometimes when I go back to certain paragraphs I am in owe and my eyes are watery; and I can't stop thinking how lucky we are that still today, there are guys like these ones among us. There is still hope... Thank you, I mean it...
I'm so sorry Cindy! Men like your husband are a special breed. He died doing what he loved at the time. I always think of you guys when I hear this song...TFR '93
I read Lone Survivor.............Axe, Danny, Lt. Murphy........all the men of SEAL team 10, 160th SOAR and everyone serving.........THANK YOU! You are all hero's Marcus Luttrell thanks for telling the story.
Everybody who isn't serving should be in their knees thanking god there is men like Matt Axelson that fights to keep this nation free. Like my recruiter once said, ''People sleep peaceably in their beds at night, only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.'' RIP brother, myself and thousands of americans will serve with the same courage and patriotism as you had.
For what it's worth, I can't help but feel both sorrow for the widow and pride in such a manner that makes me sleep a little better at night knowing people like Matt are doing there best so I can enjoy my wife and three girls. But rest assure, anyone that wishes my family, friends, and neighbors will bear the brunt of everything I can throw at them. Thank you for your service Matt.
May God bless you Matt, I pray that you and your fallen brothers forever rest in the arms of the Eternal Father. Cindy, our prayers are with you.
