So many could learn so much from the wisdom this man had 2000 years ago. Children today will not read his texts unless they seek him out. Education departments employees have agendas.

I do maintenance at a public school. I was shocked at how much the library content changed from when I was there. 80% of their books are fantasy series and fiction. The history section is a sliver of what it once was.

I followed the advise of a fictional serial killer (Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs) to find my way towards Marcus Aurelius's Meditations. So, you know, not all hope is lost. Many streams lead to the same ocean.

@@greenthumb8266 i understand that, but since it was kind of normal, i guess people was more used to live with that, as tragic and devastating as it is.
That's the main reason people used to have many children, as it still happens in areas on the planet where mortality at birth or in infancy is unfortunately still very high. In Italy where i am from, this shift happened only about 100 years ago: my grand parents born at the end of the 19th century were all from numerous family and had many siblings, with a few deceased in childhood among them: my parents, born after WWI, had much fewer sibling (my mom only one sister and my dad 2 brothers) who all lived into old age, and that is the common experience confirmed by statistical data.

I found it kind of disturbing and delusional that in the last part the uknown narrator mentioned christs ' forgive them for they know not what they do ' when in fact Marcus lived centuries before that even happened, knew nothing about Jesus or our thoughts on the matter, Just kind of disjointed and disconnected, from reality and the person he actually was. We should appreciate the original man in the original times he was present and not try to religify and conflate our own flavor and meaning and make another christ god soup out of what is something entirely different. Jesus may have had some elements but if he was a stoic is questionable and considering all that happened in the name of christian religion perhaps we long to go back to a time before that existed to find some purity in the air we breathe because the human mind is suffocated and heavy, Saturated by the trivialities and abuse it suffered for centuries by men who knew better wielding a bible in their hand to hit you over the head with. We backtrack in order to find the solace and simplicity of the ancients and be cleansed of the obsessive religious insanity that took hold of the human mind like a fever dream which is also called a nightmare

The first 30 centuries or so they were busy feeding the christians to the lions for entertainment of the romans and keeping slaves, conquering europe building roads everywhere in their empire. The chrisdtians was an obscure group, a cult of you will rising from the essenes. Because their faith was too strong the romans decided to adopt and hijack their one god religion hence the roman church that was going to dominate the world for centuries to come but it was a roman perversion of the original chistian faith. That's what we have all been believing in for ages

Stellar content, indeed. I perused a book with similar themes that was equally impressive. "A Life Unplugged: Reclaiming Reality in a Digital Age" by Theodore Blaze

Would argue that large aspects of stoicism which is what the mediations are based off don’t work. The central tenant remains “don’t worry about something you can’t control.” The opposing view to this would be Jan Paul satres exetenialist ideology that “I could have prevented World War II.” His logic being that had he killed hitler the war would have immediately stopped or perhaps never started. End of the day skepticism is the most applicable philosophy for real life regardless of the time frame.

How would you know that that person Hitler would do what he did? Stoicism say worry about what you can change. How can you change what you don’t know?

@@GiganFTW pretty sure the whole crustalnacht was a good indication as to what Hitler was gonna do that and the whole neon kempf book. Just guessing. End of the day you can live your life in the clouds I truly don’t care.
