2017 INDIAN SPRINGFIELD | FIRST TIME RIDING | BEAUTIFUL BAGGER

  • Indian trucked in their 2017 Lineup and I could not wait to try them out. I never rode a bike this size before, and was I missing out. The wind gusts were up to 30 mph that day, but my body was protected from the wind. The bike didn't have a problem with it either. I thoroughly enjoyed riding the 2017 Indian Springfield. This was one of the more fun reviews that I have gotten to do.

Commenting a bit late, but honestly the Indians are so well balanced, and the center of gravity sits so low, they don't feel nearly as heavy as they actually are. I had a Harley Limited, and that bike felt heavy when riding it low speeds/backing it up. My new Springfield feels super light in comparison. You definitely picked the right large bike to demo for your first large bike. They're wonderful machines.

I've had my Springfield for just over a year. I've put 15,000 miles on it. I bought mine with the "Stage 2" option which adds high performance exhaust, open air cleaner, re-map, and high performance cams. The power is extremely overkill, but I love it. The exhaust sounds much better than friends who ride Harleys.

A Great Bike- and glad it's not a Harley :-) really everybody drives a HD today- But i personally prefer quality & looks over an overpriced name. A HD is "everybody's darling" and is bought for the others; an Indian is only for the driver. HD's Time is not over but just not interesting enough anymore.

+rocker85675 I've had Harleys and I agree with Harley having a better dealer network and aftermarket support, but you're way off on your comment about Harley having better fit and finish IMHO. Indian is the only cruiser whose fit and finish make a Harley look cheap. Where the Harley has plastic (switch housings, etc.), the Indian has chrome. I would take a Springfield over a Road King any day, even the new 107. The Indian's ride is superior, it has a more powerful motor, better handling, better suspension, better paint, and great sounding stock pipes. I challenge anybody to see those two bikes side by side and then tell me you think the Harley looks better. But then again, opinions are subjective. That's why I say to all those reading this to ride one and see for yourself. The Roadmaster is the nicest bike I've ever ridden, hands down, and that includes the Electraglide. No comparison, but then again that's just my opinion.

Nice job on the review, especially considering your apprehension to ride the big bikes. You looked like you handled it well. I did the same demo ride last month and ended up ordering the Chieftain (which is taking forever to arrive). I've been riding cruisers for the last several years, but I originally came from the sport bike world too. They have made the cruisers of today much more rider friendly and capable of handling very well. Just don't get into a turn too hot or you will suddenly feel the massive weight you didn't feel when riding upright. Keep up the good work.

LordXenon101 rev matching by blipping the throttle gets you a margin of error when downshifting. When I aggressively downshift I rev match but when I cruise I just change to a lower gear when the rpms are appropriate.

After a year of looking for an upgrade, traded in my Triumph and bought a 2017 Springfield instead. I love riding it. So far no issues after 2000 miles. My experience with the Indian Dealership and all the cool crap they send you after buying the bike has been excellent. I was surprised how they just let you test ride all their models with no pressure. The people and owners at these dealerships seemed to be more helpful, easier to talk to, and less hassling than others. I am a fan so far.

Nice bike, i love the Indian brand, but the lineup is getting stale, right now, everything evolved from the Chief. I would like to see some new product lines, over t see something with a big 240mm rear wheel, something that will compete with the Fatboy, the Breakout. I'd also like to see a product line that is bigger than the Scout, but small than the Chief, a true midsize.
I have several Indian's, but i'd love a performance line. It's been 5 years and Indian has done a good job, but they now have 15 models evolved from the Chief, time for a new product line, it's getting stale.

This is my dream bike. I test rode one about a year ago and it was super smooth, comfy, and didn't feel anywhere near it's weight! My dad's 900 v-twin feels heavier and more awkward than this bike. It's also got a low CG and seat so at 5'6", I didn't have any trouble with it being too tall. Someday, I shall have one for trip duties.

Thanks, You did an awesome review about the Indian I'd buy if I was in the market. The fact that you jumped off a sport bike onto this one is great, because it makes you feel like a big step up, and you really are stepping up! I'm sure I'd buy this one over a Harley Road King. This one is a lot more bike for virtually the same money as a Road King. There's plenty of power, plenty of everything! I'm impressed in the fact that you don't have spend a big whopping load of money right after you buy it to make it into what you want. I don't mind finding a good aftermarket horn, and I'm done buying and I'm on it enjoying the ride, and like you said , you could go for a really long ride on it and not be fatigued. Be Cool in the summer to try to go coast to coast on it just to be able to say you did it and it wasn't hard work to do it. Thanks a whole lot for this great review! So many are just music, or someone b itching because he's 6'7" and didn't fit just right. I m on the other end of the spectrum with only a 30" inseam. I want to put both feet on the floor what I'm at a stop. By the way, that quick stop was marvelous! I'm serious, because sometimes something like that happens and you made a really safe stop even though you got caught in it.

Want to experience the ultimate balance on a big tourer? Try a Goldwing. Not at all nastalgic, except for the old Valks, and totally different bike. The gas tank sits under the seat, except for the Old Valks, and with the engine low it has a real low center of gravity which makes it handle SUPER NICE! I Use to ride them, 76, 81, 86, but hate how they look now. Too excutive looking like made for a suit and tie person. Got 99 Valkyrie Interstate now but looking now to buy an INDIAN! THANKS!

Dennis Morris You're probably hearing the primary reduction gears. I've never heard a bike, that didn't whine, a little.

Butt ugly too, and the gearbox sounded like a '60s BMW. Not impressed.

+The Last Rebel Show when I was in school, the geeks were people who stayed inside playing video games all day. Never heard motorcycle enthusiasts called geeks before. Wow times have changed

I used to ride a Cross Roads and the handling was markedly better without the windscreen. Nice on warm days too. At highway speeds though, it was all I could do to hang on. Actually made my knuckles hurt and I was doing all I could to stay light on the bars.
