I bought a 2016 Springfield last May and paid extra for the performance cams, Indian air filter intake and Cadillac style exhaust. About $26,000 total for the bike and worth every penny. The Springfield is about a 800 lb. bike with fluids and it will flat out set you back when you crack the throttle. Very impressive. On the day that I bought mine, I test rode the Springfield in Canton, Ohio and a 2016 Road King in Akron, Ohio. Before I left my house that morning, I would have bet anyone $1000 that I would have ordered the Road King that day because I love Harley's and I still do. But the Indian was so much more comfortable, handled better and much more powerful and that was before the cams and air filter. By the way, mine had 6 miles on it when I picked it up and that was just fine with me. These bikes are assembled at the dealers where you buy them. I want them driving mine after they put them together to make sure everything works as it should.
I just went to an Indian demo day today and rode the Scout 60, Scout, Chief Vintage, and Chief Springfield just exactly like this one here with that red and silver color scheme. Man, that thing is soooo pretty! These internet pics and videos really don't do it justice. It also rode the best too. I'm 5'6" and most bikes this big are tall enough to make me a bit uneasy at a stop or backing it in a parking spot, but not this one. I could flat-foot easily on both sides and never once felt "too big" or top-heavy. It handles high and low speed very confidently and accurately and actually has much better manners at all speeds than my dad's Kawi Vulcan 900, which is literally half the size of this 111ci motor! I love that I can drop it in 6th gear and just putter at 30 mph. Man, that's a fantastic bike! Harley is not even in my head any more. If you're thinking about getting a bike and haven't gotten a chance to ride an Indian yet, DO IT!
I think you just sold me on this Springfield! That color is absolutely beautiful! And the fact that you flat footed it at 5'6" gave me the confidence I needed! Heavy bikes are a huge problem at stops if you can't flat foot them! Especially at 700+lbs!
Just picked up my Springfield yesterday. The same color combo as the one you have in this video. Like you said... it is down right beautiful. Indian motorcycles sure know how to do things right!!!
Had the pleasure of riding an Indian Roadmaster on Monday. Wonderful bike, great suspension, and the display was fantastic. They still need to tweak a few things for me to consider making the switch from my current bike, but they're getting close!
Thanks for the video. I went in my local Indian Motorcycle dealership ( Motor City) and saw the Springfield in person. I fell in "love" I was looking for a Chieftain but Wow
I had the pleasure of demo riding a Springfield with this paint over the weekend at the demo event at Indian Motorcycle of Kansas City. It was every bit as gorgeous as you describe and it was a wonderful machine. I totally agree with you've said in the past videos about choosing what is right for the individual rider (Harley vs. Indian vs. Yamaha...). I would definitely put one of these in my garage :) Thank you for putting all the best information out there for us to soak up.
your right about the roadmaster the color willow green came on 1957 thunderbird. 147 made. rarest color of that year. i know because i own one. mines even rarer because it came porthole delete.
OMG, I'm so happy! I want that bike. I'm just obsessed with the Springfield. Don't know how it would fair as a touring bike but I think it would make a great daily rider. Love the video Shawn :)
There is a guy here in Toledo, WA that has an '02 Road King Classing, with the same solo seat and fender rack as mine, that's almost this exact color... Harley should bring the color back out again! Thanks man!
Nice bikes. I test rode a Springfield about a month ago. Quite a different bike than my 2011 Suzuki V-Strom 650. I also got to test ride / drive a Slingshot that day also. The slingshot was fun but the Indian was a nicer ride
I like your helmet cam position. it shows a better perception of rider to handle bar position. thanks for the post Shaun. that is a gorgeous, beautiful bike!
One beauty of a motorcycle! Love the colour scheme, as you can see from photo of my wing I'm biased to a red/silver colour combo. If I ever went back to a two cylinder it would be an Indian if they get a dealership in my area...... closest dealer right now is in my old home town of Barrie, Ontario which is 4 hours away from Sudbury.
I wish there was an Indian dealership a little closer to me, the nearest one is out in Auburn, CA. That's over a 40 minute drive just to see the bike in person. there's like 3 Yamaha dealerships in the Sacramento area and I wish at least one would carry the Indian line like your store does. Since Yamaha is cutting back on its cruiser selection, I think this would be a good idea for the dealership.
Shawn Smoak Finally got up to that Indian dealership today and took my first ride on an Indian. It was a Chieftain with the Ride Command. Absolutely loved the power, acceleration and handling. I wish Indiana came standard with a heel shifter.
Love the Springfield! But still can not/will not let go of my 09 SG (little Rubio) Not too crazy about the turquoise one but still a gorgeous bike!! As always, great job!✌️
Well heck, you just need to make room to park a Springfield next to little Rubio..! They would get along with each other, I promise! Lol They are different enough, that it would be like having two styles of bikes, regardless of being tagged 'Touring' class bikes... Yeah, I don't know if I'm man enough to ride a bike in that color, but it's eye candy to look at... Thanks man!
haha, they would get along but Rubio is still in mourning for your SGS. Lol. I do love that Springfield but think I would go for the Chieftain first! Take care bud. ✌️
hey Shawn; would you take the Springfield or the Roadking with the Milwakee Eight motor? i took one out during the Chieftain Dark Horse event and i nearly traded in the Fatbob i picked up earlier this year! oh hell I'm writing while watching and that new Chieftain with the matte silver and the blacked out engine i am in LOVE with that treatment! love your vids, even though the loop's getting a bit tedious your enthusiasm comes through and makes me want to watch another.
Well, what you'll have to do is keep the Scout and pick up a Springfield later on..! They are the perfect combo to have. I love my Iron 883 and Street Glide combo... Thanks Mike!
+Shawn Smoak yeah it really is. I've taken out the demo twice now. Such a great package for the price and I can't shake the excitement I felt when I first twisted the throttle on that little machine. I've gotta have it!
Blimey that was a quick reply, its nearly 10pm here in the UK, no idea of the time there in the states, congrats on the new bike too, you certainly have a lot of temptation around you at work, lol. Stay safe out there, cheers, Paul.
Good morning Shawn- new subscriber here! I was curious what made you upgrade to a 2017 SGS vs a Indian Chieftain Darkhorse? I am looking at both bikes, and really have quite the struggle on which to choose. Both seem to have strengths and weaknesses. What made you choose the Harley? Thanks and safe riding!
These Indian bikes are very good and are starting to have an impact on Harley sales. Indian needs to improve it's accessory range and bring down pricing to get return buyers, otherwise these hard to win over buyers will be going back to Harley
Hey shawn a new sign for the floor" candyland ( Indian) dreamland ( spider) Toyland ( everything else). Yea i know i swiped the candyland from you. Lol
beautiful bike, ive wanted an indian for the past 30 years.obviously as a teenager it was always outside of what i could afford.so now i can and went to see about one.i sat on it and was disappointed at how cramped i felt on it.i will say im six foot nine tall,so thats why.i settled on a victory highball, another great bike and am happy with my choice but still long for an indian.is it possible to get forward control extensions and also a seat made that gives me a good 6-8 inches of extra space?.id also look to change out the bars for something more forward to accomodate my height.im looking at keeping the victory for two years and trading for the chief.really enjoy your videos shawn ,beautiful country you live in.i live in scotland so fewer sunny days for riding lol.
I too am on the taller side and these v-twin bikes are being built for folks less than 6ft. tall! I don't think harley/Indian should be charging extra for their bikes just so it "fits" anyone over 6ft!
Damn Shawn we have the same tastes in Indians. I loved the Dark Horse when it came out but then they brought the Springfield out and I fell in love with it and like I said on your previous vid I do love that two tone flake with the gold pin strip. Can't wait to see one in the flesh down under. Thanks for the tease! :P Cheers,
If I had the dough I would buy a Springfield and a Street Glide to go with my Goldwing. Same colour for the Springfield as my wing and a blue Street Glide.
I wonder the same thing about myself..! But it's probably a good thing, as I'd be motorcycle poor in no time, because I love so many bikes... Lol Thanks Paul!
Good grief that new dash is ugly... It's enough to make be go for the Harley Davidson instead. That smoke silver is stunning. Looks really good with the black motor too...
u said the bike was sold does the new owner know you are out rideing his bike ? if I was him I would be very very unhappy and I would say so to the dealership the last bike I bought had o miles on speedo just my thoughts sir
Bikes are assembled on the spot and they take them out on a short ride to make sure everything is put together and works properly. I'd choose that over 10 miles on odo...
If it was a true "test ride" there would be a checklist of functions to test during a short trip. This guy is taking a fun little spin on someone else's brand new motorcycle. Not cool. In fact, it might be illegal to sell such a bike as "new".
Gabby Hayes The bike is freshly assembled out of the crate. Would you be more pissed that you came to pick up your new $23k bike and the drive belt or handle bars weren't tightened all the way?
mathew mann It's about checks, balances and liability. The bike is freshly assembled out of the create. They have to test it before the customer gets on it.
Michiganborn1969 Well, you got a point there if it was indeed the initial testing of the bike, but it didn't sound that way in the video. Normally, the tech who assembled it would do that test.
Gabby Hayes The techs at these dealerships are up to their eyeballs in work especially if the weather is nice. They usually have a shop apprentice or perhaps one of the other guys that are usually just standing around (and more expendable) to take these test rides.
Per our dealership agreement with Indian, every new bike MUST be ridden and signed-off on... Every manufacture we sell at all our dealerships has the same type of binding agreement. Indian actually want's us to put at least eight miles on the bikes. We don't, as the mileage thing is only a verbal recommendation. Could you imagine turning over an unsafe bike to a customer? There were a lot of humans involved with the making of this bike, and occasionally mistakes can be made. We, and in this case, myself, are the last in that line to catch any potential problem or safety hazard before the customer drives away. In a lot of cases, the customer is standing there with a huge smile on their face awaiting the technicians return so he or she can safely drive away... Thanks for watching Jonathan!
Nope the Indian chieftain (on video ) would be a no go for me... I just hate that huge screen, It looks so damn odd.. I need to go see one in person. I almost feel offended . Also odd how the gas tank filler is so far up, and almost under the fairing, but once again I need to see it in person. Just creeps me out.
its very obvious you like this more than the Harley, your voice gets a little squeaky! why dont you just give in and trade in that Harley for either the Chieftain or Springfield.
If I truly loved it more, it would be sitting in my shop, and I would have saved thousands of dollars... If I ever go for another Road King style bike, it may very well be the Springfield. Awesome bike!! Thanks Peter!
It's mandatory through all the manufactures we sell that every bike is test ridden by an experienced/certified technician after bike setup and pre-delivery inspection to verify that the unit is safe and roadworthy to hand over to the customer. There is a legal binding document that is signed by the technician after the test ride... Thanks for watching!

Right on. It's a sweet bike for sure. I'd definitely recommend a good test-ride before you buy one if you haven't already though.
Yes! Got tears in my eyes again, seeing those great Indian's! Thank you :)
Man, Indian's knocking it out of the park with these color schemes!! The bikes are already awesome...
Thanks Cor!
Just picked up my Springfield yesterday. The same color combo as the one you have in this video. Like you said... it is down right beautiful. Indian motorcycles sure know how to do things right!!!
I know what you mean about the roadking, I traded mine in on a streety a while back, I miss looking down on that headlight.
I fell in "love"
I was looking for a Chieftain but Wow
Love the new GW’s but I sure do love Indian’s too especially the Chieftain and the Springfield as well ! Will have to think about that!
Another great video. I love the bonus clip. Thanks for taking us along.
That flat silver was awesome.

Love the retro green and cream. Now if only they did a Road King Classic in that!
There is a guy here in Toledo, WA that has an '02 Road King Classing, with the same solo seat and fender rack as mine, that's almost this exact color... Harley should bring the color back out again!
Thanks man!
Another great video ! And I really like that flat gray Indian at the end. Talk about gorgeous. And a monster sized infotainment screen. Sheehs
Nice bikes. I test rode a Springfield about a month ago. Quite a different bike than my 2011 Suzuki V-Strom 650. I also got to test ride / drive a Slingshot that day also. The slingshot was fun but the Indian was a nicer ride
Cool that you got to ride and drive those! That's quite a difference from your DL650, that must have felt strange at first...
Thanks!
I like the Springfield too and its named after Springfield, Massachusetts the original home of Indian and I'm in the next town over from there.
Shawn, Haven't seen a video lately. Are you taking a brake?
went to indian of panama city beach and rode both the springfield and dark horse and bought the dark horse thanks for the reviews
Love the Roadmaster in the two-tone mental health green and cream...so retro!
Damn that's a gorgeous ride! Now my Triumph Thunderbird LT won't feel lonely in the garage.
I like your helmet cam position. it shows a better perception of rider to handle bar position. thanks for the post Shaun. that is a gorgeous, beautiful bike!

Absolutely loved the power, acceleration and handling. I wish Indiana came standard with a heel shifter.
oh sheesh, that sea foam green and cream cheiftan looks oh so sweet, wow.
Nice spacious Indian showroom. It's frustrating going to a dealer where the bikes are stacked on top of one another.
Love the Springfield! But still can not/will not let go of my 09 SG (little Rubio)
Not too crazy about the turquoise one but still a gorgeous bike!! As always, great job!✌️

Picking up a Scout soon but if I had the cash it would for sure be the Springfield. Soooo nice
Well, what you'll have to do is keep the Scout and pick up a Springfield later on..! They are the perfect combo to have. I love my Iron 883 and Street Glide combo...
Thanks Mike!
+Shawn Smoak sadly I'm giving up my 883 for the Scout 😕
Nothing wrong with that... The Scout is an insanely cool bike!
+Shawn Smoak yeah it really is. I've taken out the demo twice now. Such a great package for the price and I can't shake the excitement I felt when I first twisted the throttle on that little machine. I've gotta have it!
Wow Indian really know how to make luxury 2 wheeled travel that's for sure! Especially with that peppermint coloured machine in the bonus footage!
Oh man yeah! Beautiful luxury for sure...
Thanks!!
Blimey that was a quick reply, its nearly 10pm here in the UK, no idea of the time there in the states, congrats on the new bike too, you certainly have a lot of temptation around you at work, lol. Stay safe out there, cheers, Paul.
That is a sharp color combo! Very nice.
Enjoyed your test ride, well most all of them so far.
Beautiful bike, A technical question, when riding through trees,is it better to record in 720 or 1080 as far as clarity ?
absolutely beautiful bikes!
Love that Chieftain! Great Bike, Great vids. thanks brother.
Shawn, if I pick my new bike up in Washington from your shop, it would give me a chance to ride it across country.
Is there a big difference between the Indian & Harleys new engine?
Shawn, how's the reliability on the new Indians? Have y'all had any come back to you dealership which issues? Great looking bike!
That Cream& Green looks like a Nash ..😎
She's full-on retro..! Thanks Eric!
Wonder how the sapphire blue and silver looks in person.
i likes the green and white.
Oh man, she's pretty!!
Thanks Steve!
It sure look mighty pretty 😉
Yeah they do... Thanks for watching!
I like your videos. Not crazy about new dash display.
I would just like ONE of everything! LOL! They're ALL COOL in their own individual way!
I feel the same way! If I had the money, it would take a warehouse to store all the bikes own... Lol
Thanks man!
whats a better looking Springfield in person the Jack Daniels Edition or this two tone color scheme???
im old now and got just a little smarter (not much ) and i know how dengerus motorcycles are but im getting one of this .
Lol, awesome Joe! Go for it man...
Thanks for watching!
Dang beautiful bikes!
Still think the springfield is the best bike indian has built.
These Indian bikes are very good and are starting to have an impact on Harley sales. Indian needs to improve it's accessory range and bring down pricing to get return buyers, otherwise these hard to win over buyers will be going back to Harley
So Shawn, If you buy a new Indian is Kelly gonna get an Indian tattoo to match her Harley tattoo?
+MFSB - Haven't thought of that, who knows what she'd do..?
Thanks for watching and commenting!
ha, i made that comment in the first 30 seconds of the video. then i finished it and u mentioned about trading in the harley!
Lol... Not problem. Thanks again!
How does the Thunderstroke engine compare to the new Milwaukee 8?
Its WAY better!
Beautiful bike...thanks!
nice motorcycle and color
Thanks Brian!!
Very informative..........yeah, right.
Hey shawn a new sign for the floor" candyland ( Indian) dreamland ( spider) Toyland ( everything else). Yea i know i swiped the candyland from you. Lol

That's multiple brands dealer and he works there, where he spends his $ is entirely up to him... I think thou he bought his Harley in house.

Cheers,
So many freak'n cool bike out nowadays..! I need to win that lottery, and soon! Lol
Thanks Spuds!
I totally agree!
Today I finally got to see this gorgeous colour on the Springfield in the Sydney, Australia Indian showroom. Up close it is even better!!!!
Very tempting, my Road King is still my ride though
I would like to qwn one of each! A Springfield and a Road King.
If I had the dough I would buy a Springfield and a Street Glide to go with my Goldwing. Same colour for the Springfield as my wing and a blue Street Glide.
Looks like a indian road king...
Surprised the safety police have not piped the fuck up. Nice bike. Smooth.
Thanks Shawn they sure are nice, man why ain't I rich?😃👍
I wonder the same thing about myself..! But it's probably a good thing, as I'd be motorcycle poor in no time, because I love so many bikes... Lol
Thanks Paul!
Good grief that new dash is ugly... It's enough to make be go for the Harley Davidson instead. That smoke silver is stunning. Looks really good with the black motor too...
Yes Smoak, Björn has it right. De-nile isnt just a river in Egypt anymore! HAHA
ADMIT IT AT ONCE! You love Indian more that HD
u said the bike was sold does the new owner know you are out rideing his bike ? if I was him I would be very very unhappy and I would say so to the dealership the last bike I bought had o miles on speedo just my thoughts sir
Shawn had commented on the issue of riding the new bikes. Apparently they are required to do a test ride before selling it.
They have to break them in right?
Bikes are assembled on the spot and they take them out on a short ride to make sure everything is put together and works properly.
I'd choose that over 10 miles on odo...
If it was a true "test ride" there would be a checklist of functions to test during a short trip. This guy is taking a fun little spin on someone else's brand new motorcycle. Not cool. In fact, it might be illegal to sell such a bike as "new".
I want so bad. sadly, I'm not rich :(
That bike is sold to someone else , and you're riding it? why?? lol
Yeah, I'd be fucking pissed if it were mine. Giving test rides on my bike after it's purchased? WTF?
Gabby Hayes The bike is freshly assembled out of the crate. Would you be more pissed that you came to pick up your new $23k bike and the drive belt or handle bars weren't tightened all the way?
mathew mann It's about checks, balances and liability. The bike is freshly assembled out of the create. They have to test it before the customer gets on it.

India is so much better then Harley
Harley must be scared shitless.
You cant have it!
How nice of you to ride a bike belonging to someone else.

+Shawn Smoak thank you for all ur videos, i love em all
Thank you for watching them sir!!
It seems you like the Indian Springfield very much, but you recently bought a new HD with the Milwaukee 8-Engine, HD still more the brand you prefer?
Just not a Harley
im still buying a road king
I'd be pretty upset if someone test rode a bike I just paid for.
It's mandatory through all the manufactures we sell that every bike is test ridden by an experienced/certified technician after bike setup and pre-delivery inspection to verify that the unit is safe and roadworthy to hand over to the customer.
