- We’re willing to bet that if you’re a fly-tyer who spends any time on Instagram, you’ve followed @flyonby and liked the photos of his elegant imitations of saltwater baitfish. On March 6, 2022, fly-tying guru Jason Taylor joined Masters of the Fly for a discussion of his philosophy and approach to fly-tying, and a demonstration of three easy-to-tie, elegant, and highly-effective baitfish patters: his take on the Hollow Fly, his Cheater Deceiver, and his Four-Feather Fly.
Event and Q&A discussion moderated by David Blinken and Luyen Chou.
Feel free to tie along with Jason on your own vise at home during this as you watch. Here's a list of the materials used:
Bucktail
Squimpish fibers
Strung saddle feathers
Schlappen
Marabou
Chocklett’s filler flash or other dense fibered flash chenille
Coq de Leon saddle hackle or large dry fly hackle
Ostrich eye (tip of ostrich plume)
