In the book, Alexander thought he was straight. Until the kiss. This gets lost in the movie, but watch him closely when he tells Henry he's bi. He is clearly trying out the label for the first time, even to himself.
That's the thing I missed the most from the book, Alex struggles to understand his sexuality, to come to a term with it and to accept it is so relatable, and I really think that if we saw this in the movie would help so many bi children out there to understand themselves.

This is hands down the best reaction I have seen on the film. (And I’ve watched more than a few now!) The scene at New Year’s during the dance when “ere’body got low” and they were facing each other like the only two people in the room. Damn. It broke me, and I was in floods. Last thing I’ll say: I am so grateful that they portrayed the sex scene between these two men as loving and meaningful. As we live in a time of hook-up sex, it was beautiful to see a representation of love, and not lust alone. ❤️
@@Courtney-Jai I cannot wait to see it! I’d love to hear your take on it. (I also realize that I may have made my original comment sound preachy regarding hooking-up.) I have nothing against it! God knows! You-do-you, etc. And I most certainly have been no saint in my time, and with few regrets; but I simply thought it made for a welcome change to see a portrayal where, in addition to wanting to rip someone’s clothes off, there was genuine affection as well. As fairy-tail-ish (pun) and even unrealistic as transatlantic flights to get your man may be, it was so well done. Seeing two beautiful and sexy young men falling in love made me happier than I can say. In my opinion only, I would love to see as many scenes like this, as we see in the sex-for-sex sake scenes. Love both. 🙂
One of my favorite moments (among dozens) is when Alex is flying back to England to fix the mess. Amy is quizzing him and he brings up the issue of why anyone would name their dog David. She says her dog is named Jonathan. Alex remarks "yeah, that is the only thing weird about you." She said that that is her son they are talking about. Alex and she quickly shift to discussing how cute her dog is and he says eagerly that he wants to see photos. Most people are bored by such pictures but he makes it clear in that brief moment that he cares about other people's feelings. (I love Amy.) Also in the hospital, she opens the door of the closet and says the threat had been neutralized. Alex asks what does she mean. She says "good thing he is in a hospital" but she gives a quick wink.
I am so glad you caught & mentioned both of these moments! I love Amy! For such a small role she got some great lines and delivered them perfectly. Alex’s delight to see the photos shows us a different side from his normal sass. Plus how much he enjoys Amy.
In the book, Secret Service Agent Amy is a trans woman. In the film she’s portrayed by a trans woman (Aneesh Shheth). I love every single scene she’s in. In the Texas bar scene she surveys the place silently in the background. Amy is an anchor and an ally !@@gailoverholt6498
I loved your reaction. For some reason I don't cry anymore. It may have something to do with all the medications I have to take. I am 74 and have had 2 strokes. When I was in high school I watched a movie called IMITATION OF LIFE, made in 1959. I cried so much I couldn't go to school the next day. My eyes were swollen shut. I kid you not!
Imitation of Life?! That movie is amazing and so sad. All she ever wanted was for her daughter to acknowledge her and she only does so after she dies. Heartbreaking!

Courtney, I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed your real time analysis. I’ve watched the movie several times and then read the book. I like the screenplay by Matthew Lopez more. I think the changes he made created a dynamic film with a wonderful dialogue that brought out and intensified the emotions of the couple. The charisma between the actors was fabulous. I didn’t know of either actor, but I can’t imagine anyone else playing those roles. Btw, I noticed your Cameo role in Heartstoppers, which I’ve just started watching. Congratulations and best wishes from Florida!!
I'm reading the novel, just got to where Alex clearly indicated he's in love but gets ghosted by Henry, the film is definitely an improvement on the book. I happily watch the film daily but the book is taking time to get through.
Thanks guys yeah its really annoying. The second part being age restricted, but I think having the 2 parts separate and then one complete one is the best option for everyone
Courtney-Jai, what a wonderful video about ''Red, White & Royal Blue''! It's so refreshing to see a beautiful LGBT love story with a happy ending. Thanks, too, for sharing your humorous and heartfelt reactions. Kudos, too, to Matthew Lopez, who directed and co-wrote this movie, adapting it from the lovely novel by Casey McQuiston, who has a cameo as a speechwriter. And Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine were royally romantic perfection as Alex and Henry. ... By the way, you say that ''Love, Simon'' might be your favorite LGBT movie (and it's up there for me, as well as ''Red, White & Royal Blue''). For the record, Greg Berlanti directed ''Love, Simon'' and he produced ''Red, White & Royal Blue,'' too!

I hope you read the book. I read it prior to the movie. I love both, but the book stole my heart … because its so well written, because I love the two leads so much, and just cause! My favorite line “my family who … loves in defiance of expectation and condemnation”.
So many wonderful moments. The chemistry between Alex and Henry is fantastic, but the chemistry between most of the other actors is equally fantastic. The New Years party scene of all down but Alex & Henry reminds me of the school dance scene in West Side Story when Tony & Maria first see each other. The director brought in great elements--the handling of e-mails was crisp and delightful. I give it 11 stars out of 19!
In the cake scene I LOVE how Taylor channels Michael Crawford (Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em) with the wide eyed shock. The most moving part was the scene that gave the DOP, Lighting, and Grip departments nightmares. The permission to film in the actual Victoria And Albert Museum came with conditions. The most difficult one was that no outside lighting equipment was permitted in the Museum. A wise move indeed. It took really careful planning to make the Museum scene come to life. Then when Alex plays the music, it is heart stopping in the simple beauty.
I have watched your review of RW&B again! It remains excellent! It truly is a beautiful movie, very emotional and emotional. I wish Young Royals had an ending as satisfying! Thanks.
hey Cortney, i know that you're reading the book but you might check out the deleted scene about Henry's heart today. i totally understand why they deleted it, but it's so fucking beautiful.
I really liked watching this video 😊 I saw the movie before I read the book. When I first saw the scene where Alex comes out to his mom and her reaction, I cried too 😭 in the books his family is very supportive and it's so beautiful to see that in any media
So I’ve only discovered this film in the last week,, think my favourite scene is their reunion on the stairs,, feels so real and so deep. This film has had a profound impact on me,, I think it’s reinforced for me realise how lucky I am to be in a world where I can live proudly with my husband who I love with all my heart and to not underestimate the internalised shame that we can carry for being who we are.
I read this book years ago and it's one of my favorite books, especially queer books out there. As a bisexual I felt so seen personally in Alex's storyline. I love the movie, and I think for 2 hours or however long it is they did a good job. There's some stuff I personally would change, but it's still an amazing movie. That being said! I think the book is so much better haha. The part where I fell in love is with the turkey scene! It's so well-written and perfect. But there's a line in the book which isn't really much of a spoiler (and you just watched the movie haha) and it's: "He thinks, as he runs and runs and runs, the stupidest thing of all is that he's straight. Like he's pretty sure he's straight." And then a bit further into the pages: "Straight people, he thinks, probably don't spend this much time convincing themselves they're straight." This hit hard for me because I really struggled with figuring out my sexuality because I am attracted to the opposite sex. I'm not fully a lesbian, but I'm also interested in women and it just really connected with how I had to think in order to perceive myself as "not straight" haha. I hope you read the book and you fall in love with it! I think my favorite character has to be Zahra or Alex. Nora is high up there. I missed June from the movie so much. Over all so much fun seeing you react to this. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the book later on!
I have seen this movie so many times now and I cry at the same events each and every time. Even though Stephen Fry is gay, I think he made an excellent and period marking King of the UK. Even today, K. C3 would be the same way.

I have nothing against it!
Love both. 🙂
Love your reaction. There were 3 charming, cute and loving boys. Alexander, Henry and you. ❤
(I love Amy.)
Also in the hospital, she opens the door of the closet and says the threat had been neutralized. Alex asks what does she mean. She says "good thing he is in a hospital" but she gives a quick wink.
Amy: “where’s the threat?”
I’m delighted they kept that line of hers from the novel.
Yeah you can tell that he's see her as a friend and a person rather then just the help
I can't get enough of the movie after watching it twice in a row so now I am watching all the reaction videos to the movie. I should say yours are the chillest and cutest so far. You've earned a new subscriber!
Awww thank you I recommend my heartstopper reacts as I'm actually in the first season
I really really enjoyed your reaction!!! It felt so genuine. I especially loved your little "oh" and reaction to the first kiss under the tree. Thank you for this video!
Loved this reaction! Loved the movie and so glad to finally see a gay movie that has a happy ending for once.
It's nice to see a queer character that has 2 fully accepting parents with no drama about their sexuality
It's always convenient to see the movie before reading the novel in order to visualize the characters.
Thanks for persisting and getting this onto RUclips 💜
Ditto!
I watched your two parts reactions, when they came out and now this full reaction..... Amazing ❤❤❤❤
Glad you liked it yeah I had some issues with part 2 getting restricted , so I decided that people might just prefer watching the whole react aswell
Your reactions are always so nice and genuine❤️ I loved this movie. Loved the book even more, because there's so much more backstory in the book.. But the movie alone is so sweet, I can watch it over and over!
I'm glad you really enjoyed it 😊
In addition to rewatching the full movie I've been watching everything related to it, including rewatching some of my favorite reaction videos. Watched your original two-parter, then the reedit version and now I'm back watching it AGAIN. In tears again, too.
Well I'm happy it's a comfort movie for so many people
Courtney, I find your reaction to the cake’s cost hilarious! I hope someone makes a meme or short of it! Thank you for reviewing this movie adaptation of a splendid story.
I also look forward to hearing your thoughts about the novel.
Glad you liked it and I'm actually finding it difficult to get hold of the boon at the moment
@@Courtney-JaiThe book is available as an audiobook. It is a 12-hour long novel, so you were correct that the movie creators had to condense a lot of material for the movie. I hope this information is helpful for you.
Thanks for this great reaction. I loved your commentary
Loved ur reaction
Lovely reaction video. I think I cried more watching this than watching the movie itself. Thank you for uploading. 😊
Haha sorry I kinda get emotional , you should try watching my heartstopper views I'm in episode 6 and I cried like a baby
@@Courtney-Jai I saw it, yes! Loved it! ❤️ Loved your role in the story helping Nick figuring out his own identity! I cried through almost the entire season 1. So many triggers in Heartstopper. So happy that they made the show!
I hope you read the book. I read it prior to the movie. I love both, but the book stole my heart … because its so well written, because I love the two leads so much, and just cause! My favorite line “my family who … loves in defiance of expectation and condemnation”.
So cute when you blush. 😍😂
Hahah stopp you'll make me blush 😊
"They're just gonna have sex all over the world" could be the tag line of this movie 🤣
Enjoyed your reaction to this movie. Thanks for sharing your emotions & tears for us to see. Well done.
You are my favorite person who shared his reactions. Your emotional reactions were a joy to watch.
I'm very happy you enjoyed it have a lovely day 😊
I adore this movie I love the representation and the way the characters are portrayed thank you for covering it ❤❤❤
Even tho I have seen u react to it allready still gonna watch this all the way trough
You are the cutest most down to earth Brit I have listened to on RUclips. Thanks for the warmth & smiles I experienced watching it.
Awww thank you I'm happy you enjoyed it
Thankyou for sharing ! - I cried too ! X
Again, loved your reaction. Bravo!
I'm really happy you liked it
So many wonderful moments.
This is my favorite movie!!! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this movie.
I love how the two main actor seemed so real. This movie is 15+
The actors playing Henry & Alex are straight.
Loved your review
Belated congratulations on 50,000 subscribers!!
Oh thank you in all honesty I don't really pay attention to my subscriber count I get way to involved in replying to everyone onto the channel haha
You are adorable. I’m glad you shared this movie experience with us. 💕🐝💕
No problem I'm happy you enjoyed it
I have watched your review of RW&B again! It remains excellent! It truly is a beautiful movie, very emotional and emotional. I wish Young Royals had an ending as satisfying! Thanks.
Loved it and your reaction was all of ours it’s a brilliant movie
I love it Courtney-Jai that you show your emotions while watching this movie because it shows your Human and that gay guys show there feelings
you are the best! Love all the reactions and I love how honest you are, the best!!:)
Thank you I have plenty more to come 😀
hey Cortney, i know that you're reading the book but you might check out the deleted scene about Henry's heart today. i totally understand why they deleted it, but it's so fucking beautiful.
I love the movie and the book, but I loved your reviews with all your emotions as well. You are as cute as Henry. Just be yourself
The first 5 seconds of this is SO relatable.
Literally everthing LGBTQ+ loves to hit you right in the feels
I really liked watching this video 😊 I saw the movie before I read the book. When I first saw the scene where Alex comes out to his mom and her reaction, I cried too 😭 in the books his family is very supportive and it's so beautiful to see that in any media
We all cried! It’s a beautiful story
H: what’s that?
C: that’s abs😂
Me: yeah no shit!!!!! 🤣🤣
I can notices abs , but it's took me a few minutes to realise C. Is me lol.
Loved your reaction. And don't worry, you look great when you've been crying. No need to restrain this tendency.
I'm happy you enjoyed the reaction ☺️
Loved your reaction and you seems like a very nice man. Love that :)
Happy you enjoyed it 😀
Great movie !!! thanks ! X
Nice to see the full reaction here! 👏🏽
I get to see the highlights and to look at you and listen to you. Very pleasing.
I'm happy you enjoyed it
So happy you loved it. We need a sequel or limited series. What happens now with them? ❤😢.
I think from what I've heard they have a bonus chapter in the book where they move in together
Such a great reveal I love this film so much
I love this movie. Watched it three times.
But there's a line in the book which isn't really much of a spoiler (and you just watched the movie haha) and it's:
"He thinks, as he runs and runs and runs, the stupidest thing of all is that he's straight. Like he's pretty sure he's straight."
And then a bit further into the pages:
"Straight people, he thinks, probably don't spend this much time convincing themselves they're straight."
This hit hard for me because I really struggled with figuring out my sexuality because I am attracted to the opposite sex.
Yeah, with the royals, it's all about status, then actually happiness.
I’m crying again!!
Now let’s see a Gay Royal Wedding!!
That would be a world changer
I loved your reaction. The movie is great, but the book is spectacular.
I Loved the movie and cried too.
I love your reactions.Beautiful movie,very moving.
I'm happy you enjoyed it
Honestly… I’ve already seen the movie, but I so enjoyed watching it again with you all the more! (Actually, I was watching your reactions to it… and loved how much our reactions were similar) 😃 thank you for being so endearing and entertaining. Please continue being you… because no one does it better! I can’t wait to watch the sequel with you.
Fingers crossed it's gets made 😀
Prime has given it the green light… so it’s looking quite good. Please say that you’ll do a video for the sequel… I’m definitely going to watch this video again! Your reactions were as adorable as the guys in the movie! 😊
@@Courtney-Jai, it was so heart warming watching you watch the movie. My husband and I watched it several months ago. We discussed how it was nice to see a gay themed film not ending in some type of tragic demise.
Everyone is happy, except for the pip squeak brother. Wait a second, could the sequel open with the brother dying in some type of dramatic plane crash and suddenly Henry is the new heir to the throne?!!!
I know such speculation is tacky, but it would make for an interesting turn.
This was so cute. good review btw
Thank you 😊
I cried like a baby!
I saw the film first and then read the book and the book does go deeper and further and is a delight. They are different yet the same. I watched the film after I watch very serious Nazi series and books like "Remains of the Day" and need a lift. I've seen the film several times and intend to read the book again at some point in the future. You'll love the book.
Nice t-shirt! What brand? Thx! ;-)
Hollister I didn't actually buy it I usually get given alot of clothes from my friends 😅
I especially enjoyed the many double entendres in the film.
maybe you can advise, in the scene when Alex goes to see why henry is ghosting him, in henry's bedroom on the left of his bed is an art print of Jane Austen, do you know who the guy's picture is above that ? I thought Byron maybe but it doesn't resemble any Byron prints I've seen.
I just clocked the that's abs comment...lol
Haha 😄
On your recommendation some months ago, I watched the movie. I do like a good story and this was well done even given the obvious plot holes.
I’m really interested in seeing your reaction to the book. Personally, I kind of wish they would have done a6 episode limited series instead of a movie as the book has so much more in it. A
I’ve read the book, and seen the film with you. And a maypole is a pole children danced round on May the first at school and in villages in England.
I really think you are a deep person with a loving heart!! You're beautiful!!!
Well thank you thats very kind of you to say
A sequel is on work! 😊
@DirkDreischenkemper very exciting but will it's recapture what made this one really great
Loved seeing your reaction. Especially as a Brit. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it , you might like my heartstopper ones to I'm actually in that show and my young royals ones
It's about time for a gay movie or book that has a happy ending
I think we will be seeing a lot more in the future
i cried at the same parts
I think we all cried from what I'm reading in the comment enough tears to fill a pool
It is the rom--com we need right now. It's note perfect for the "Hallmark" rom-com but with queer representation.
Hopefully it will open up the door to many more
