I hate to say it, but the animation to the left is better IMO - it fits the dire situation, movement feels more impactful, and there are even details in the Sprite version like the puffs of smoke as they’re falling that give it more oomph. The animation to the right’s definitely got smoother animation, and even better lighting, but it’s almost moving too smoothly - it’s rather slow in comparison to the other animation.
Plus, on the right, sonic looks like he's just holding on, while the sprite animation looks like he's struggling to slow down the capsule. If it had a bit more expression, it would be better.
It should go without saying, but the pixel artist(s) at Dimps should get a raise, a pat on the back, and a cookie. Those sprites were used and reused for years to come.

People keep talking about the facial expression and while the facial expression is important, there‘s also the missing smoke coming out of the thing that makes it off. In the animation nothing appears to be happening other than it‘s flashing slightly red In the original you see that you‘re falling on something that‘s coming apart as it goes while looking like you‘re desperately trying to keep it in the air There‘s also the birds moving back and forth like they‘re freaking out as opposed to floating in slowly and staring
I know it's been said already, but I think the animation is missing the intensity with the facial expressions and the pacing is off. In the original with Sonic's subtle movements in his body tensing, you can tell he is putting everything he has to increase his velocity against the windlash to save Vanilla's life.

Kudos to the animation, but it lacks the desperation of the situation, look at the first part of the original you can see super sonic is trying to reduce the speed of the capsule as gravity starts taking control, the second super sonic just looks bored while the capsule is gently falling, the part with the capsule breaking open is fine except the part where Vanilla just looks bored while in the original you see the fear of her falling plummeting down, lastly the Rescue, the original you can see how both characters are shaking in the air showing the intensity of the situation and you see how Sonic is desperately trying to gain momentum in order to catch up with vanilla, the animation they again look like they are gently falling down, I know this is basically a year old so I'm sure the animator would of probably improved it a great deal, but that's basically my two cents on it
First off the animation was great, I loved how similar it was to the original game. In my opinion though I feel like the scene on the left was better, and mostly because (like some people in the comments i’ve been saying) the expressions match the situation. During the animated cutscene you can tell how Sonic is actually struggling to keep the capsule from falling. But in the animation it’s a little difficult to tell if he’s trying to stop it, or if he’s just riding on it. And in the the game you can see that as they fall the capsule starts cracking a bit. You don’t see that detail in the animation. I feel like you could make some improvements but it was a good animation overall.
She gets kidnapped in the cutscene just before the true final boss, which you have to have beaten the game as all characters (bar amy) and have all the emeralds as Sonic to unlock.

Sprites BLEW the updated one out of the water. I'm sorry but another lesson to all artist, it's not the drawing tool that counts but the creativity. These sprite artist had to bride programmers to get that 1 additional Sonic face sprite at the end to push the epic nature of situation. Jesus, sometimes these updated tools make us LAZY!
The Animation Removes all the danger from the scene... It moves slower there's less panic.. Animation graphically looks better but in wise of what the scene is showing the Original wins.

The animation is good but the original is still better because it’s more fast paced has better expressions and The animation seems too slow
This is probably the final boss in a Sonic game I've replayed the most and this scene never gets old. And GBA guitar solos are epic

Original has so much more depth intensity and emotion
The original gives a sense of urgency but the recreation just gives a sense of boredom.
I feel like exaggerating the scene would’ve made the recreation better, the original just has more feeling to it
