I like the quality of the animation, but the game version has so much more character. Even the ending image shows Sonic in more dire straights, more urgency. Truly befitting of an ending.

It should go without saying, but the pixel artist(s) at Dimps should get a raise, a pat on the back, and a cookie. Those sprites were used and reused for years to come.

The remake wins if sonic had actual feelings but then again, in forces he had no mind.

The recreation feels forced. Like it’s as if sonic was just playing a role but wasn’t a good actor. While in the original it’s the tiny details that count like the amount of shake in everyone’s body Showing a feel of how fast there really falling making the scene more tense. The expressions also feel a lot more... expressive in the original. Frankly there are more problems with the recreation But to put it short, this is everything wrong with modern sonic.

People keep talking about the facial expression and while the facial expression is important, there‘s also the missing smoke coming out of the thing that makes it off. In the animation nothing appears to be happening other than it‘s flashing slightly red In the original you see that you‘re falling on something that‘s coming apart as it goes while looking like you‘re desperately trying to keep it in the air There‘s also the birds moving back and forth like they‘re freaking out as opposed to floating in slowly and staring
