Thank you for continuing to explore this important topic. I had a reading with a well known astrologer who was very technically skilled but definitely suffering from "inflation" and arrogance, and became critical and somewhat aggressive in pushing a rigid opinion about me.

Loved the comments on BPD clients. Learning some basic dialectical behavioral skills can be rlly helpful. I'm a practicing astrologer who also has gone through intensive therapy for treating BPD and can say it's difficult when people don't rlly know much about our struggles but instead write us off.
More than just being able to recognize ineffecfive behavior patterns like splitting, having a sincere empathy for them along with your own strong boundaries are important. Also the handbook on dialectical behavior therapy is something found online cheaply so having that onhand it rlly helpful because it promotes a healthy interpersonal style which helps with *every* client for an astrologer.

This is an important conversation and some really good points are brought up. I also think that there is some side stepping unnecessarily being done. For example, disease and death calculations are a HUGE part of the astrological as well as Ayurvedic tradition and are very important. While the vast majority of modern astrologers are out of their league when doing this and should probably not approach such questions, I think it means we need higher standards and more effort put into learning properly instead of avoiding such things.

trauma is very personal and emotional. speaking from experience and also working with trauma in others, it is of great import to avoid discussions of the traumatic event in 1rst person. recalling events in first person is like reliving and only strengthens the wound. only recall traumatic events in 3rd person. much like watching a movie. a nice tool to have and very effective. the key to healing is not reliving.

Excellent interview. The guest brought forth superb insights re peer supervision and the various ethical considerations. I appreciate the sensitivity expressed in your questions and his responses to the nuances of any counseling-type session. While I’m aware of many astrologers who become trusted confidants in the very personal lives of clients, I’m also concerned about the relative lack of training in areas of professional boundaries. You both bring admirable humility to the work and seem to recognize that when one meets a client, one is standing on sacred ground.
My only concern, for what it’s worth, is that most astrologers will not have or seek professional level training in counseling psychology. The guest’s brief descriptions of Borderline Personality Disorder and projective identification were carefully and sensitively defined, but these are complicated psychological dynamics which really demand further in-person training.
The guest, in my view, correctly noted that training or, ideally, licensure, as a psychotherapist is a safer route for life coaches and astrologers, that is, safer with respect to the liabilities of advice-giving. The courts have so far applied ‘caveat emptor’ but in a litigious society there should remain a cautious concern when astrologers shift past the chart, per se, into counseling. I believe it is important for any astrologer, budding amateur or professional, to only open his or her mouth when there is a direct link to the natal chart, or to the horary question, or to the current transits et al.

I recently read a book by Stephen Arroyo called Practicing the Cosmic Science, its an interesting read. He also sees astrological consultations as a psychological tooll.

I think the first one is Swami Muktananda. The astrologer mentioned right after that is Chakrapani Ullal.
